This historic fortress was built by the French during the 18th century as a fishing and trading outpost. It was later destroyed by the British and sat abandoned for years. Today, you'll find many restored French-style buildings to explore, as well as three 18th-century restaurants. During the summer, hundreds of people flock to the fortress to re-enact village life as it was in 1744.

Before you go, be sure to visit the reconstructed shops to see period items sold by local merchants. You can even purchase authentic replicas of 18th-century toys to bring home as souvenirs.
