There are two sections: the Mediterranean side and the Caribbean side. The Mediterranean side has a gigantic tower and is typical Sandals/Resort style, newer, fancy and close to the main pool. The tower is set back and so, you will not hear the sound of the ocean from your room. Also, to see the beach/ocean be sure to book 5th floor or higher. Top floor is impressive, looking out over the pool and on to the ocean. A little too high for me but to each their own. The Caribbean side is where we stayed and although this side is a little less fancy, you get the real feel of the island. There are beautiful flowers, trees and bushes beautifully situated on the grounds that frame the majestic light blue ocean just steps away. The beach and ocean are closer on this side and the feeling of “connection” with the water is strong. We stayed in room 209 and we had a straight view to the beach and ocean. I have determined 209,210,211 all have killer views. Most other rooms have no view to the ocean. However there are a group of rooms in the 100’s that are beachfront. The food at this resort is above average and the staff are very hospitable. Sylvia, our coffee barista, was very friendly and Sandy, our booking agent also represented the Sandals brand very well. I would rate our stay a solid 9 except for one thing: local beach vendors. There are too many beach vendors selling jewelry, shirts and many other things and they keep coming, every day. This became a nuisance. I have been to many resorts and understand this is part of the experience but this was the worst I have ever experienced. I am sure it is due to COVID and the impact that has had on their economy which is 100% tourism. We bought more than usual on this trip but I would have enjoyed a little less of their interaction as I come to just enjoy the sun and surf. Overall, I would recommend this resort.

If COVID doesn't ruin your honeymoon, Sandals Antigua might.

After booking in 2019 for June of 2020, then postponing to December and then postponing again until March 2021, My husband and I had looked forward to our honeymoon in Antigua for close to 2 years. There were so many things we wanted to see and do. We had all the hope in the world that Sandals would be exactly what the doctor ordered to cure all of our COVID wedding and honeymoon blues. Sadly, this was not the case. We had a beautiful ocean view honeymoon suite for our original booking and for even our first postponed date. When we had to postpone again because we couldn't secure COVID testing due to a recent spike, we were forced to pay even more money for a room that was about as far from the beach as you could possibly get. We also sent in our wedding invitations and save the dates for the honeymoon package, which we never got. Fast forward to our first day there. It was perfect but the rest of the trip fell short for a 5 star resort. We did empty the beer and mixers from our room the first night and by the 2nd night, we had finished the rum too.. We had to call the "concierge" 4 to 5 times a day to remind them to restock our room bar, which didn't happen until day 4. By then, we just gave up asking for restocking services and often took several drinks back to the room with us, from dinner, at the end of the night. Day 2 was a spa day! I booked the couples 60 minute massage package which was set to take place on the beach and include glasses of Chamberry. This was quite the adventure too. We had been taken to a courtyard, naked (but robed), and laid out on a table (covered). To our feet was the beach. On the other side, however were guest rooms that overlooked the courtyard. Super uncomfortable to have a bunch of people sitting on their balconies and around the pool watching us get massages. I was actually thankful it started pouring and we were ushered back into the spa to finish our massages. We were definitely ready for those glasses of bubbly, which never happened. On our way back to our room, we stopped at the Club Sandals office to book a cabana by the main pool for the next day. A woman helped us, made a few calls, and told us we would be in cabana 3. The next morning came and we went down to the cabana to see nothing had been set up for us. There was no towels, no drinks, and no one around. It took about 25 minutes of us waiting until we finally found someone who said they would find someone to help. A little later a woman came down, Marsha, and explained that she had nothing on her schedule for us for that day. We gave her all the information that the concierge had given us and she went above and beyond to make it right. Kudos to her and I hope she enjoyed her birthday that weekend! We spent the next few days just relaxing in our room, going out for drinks or to eat, but just took a few days to kick back. We made reservations for our dinners the rest of the week and patiently awaited news about our candlelight dinner on Sunday. Saturday, a man from the Club Sandals office called to let us know we needed to fill out a menu. We told him we would come by the office on our way to lunch in a half hour, since they were next to each other. We stopped by the office to fill out our menu and we were told that the person who had those forms wasn't available and they would drop it off to our room. We ate lunch, went to the pool for a few hours, and then went back to the room to get ready for dinner. Still no menu. I called concierge again and they assured me someone was coming by. We got ready for dinner and left. We decided to pop into the office and there was a woman there who explained to us she was waiting for us to come see her. It was a fiasco. At dinner, we had a reservation from 8 pm. It was pouring rain and once again, our reservation was not on their list. Luckily, Ken at Barefoot by the Sea squeezed us in to a table quickly so we could dry off and eat dinner. Later that night, when we returned from dinner we had an offer for a future stay and our credit card bill. The irony, we were charged twice for the cabana that we originally scheduled but weren't on the cabana hostesses schedule for. So, another phone call to the front desk. We were assured our final bill would not have that second charge but when we went to check out, it was still there. We had to skip lunch on our departing day to wait around for a manager to confirm that we didn't have the cabana for 2 days. We truly did expect to not have to worry about anything on this trip and to be taken care of every step of the way. We did think that it would be more special as it was our honeymoon. Sadly, we have had better service from small beach hotels on the Atlantic coast than we did with Sandals. It was a once in a lifetime trip for us that we fought for for almost 2 years and continued to face challenges to enjoy it even while we were there. There were several employees that we recognized by taking a survey while at the resort. Those people, Ken (Barefoot by the Sea), Marsha (our cabana hostess), and Shenika (our volleyball judge and entertainment guru), were our saving grace that week.

We had an amazing time at Sandals, the resort is beautiful with a very laid back feel to it, and the food was great too. We had so much fun zip lining, kayaking, snorkeling, and we had the most awesome time with Kenny Beach- such an amazing highlight of our trip! We met Kenny at the beach and he totally rocked our day, he was very thoughtful on planning our escape to Prickly Pear Island and such a pleasure to be around, we had soooo much fun! Thanks Kenny for making our trip even more special!

This was my 3rd trip to Sandals, and it keeps getting better and better. I finally ventured from Jamaica and I was slapped in the face that another island can be better than the first. Service was outstanding, and the staff was remarkable! Highly recommend Antigua, but we are trying St Lucia next.

The island is beautiful and the Sandals Grande Antigua resort is well maintained and offers great amenities, however I would not book here again until after the COVID scare is over. The beaches are public (which means local vendors are allowed) and the Antigua government closed the beaches for 4 of the 5 days of our trip due to COVID concerns. We only found out about this fact when we tried to walk onto the beach and were turned away. This meant no water sports (sailing, water boarding, kayaking, snorkling, scuba) or even sitting or walking on the beach was allowed. Our last day when we were allowed on the beach had to be cut short because the COVID return trip test appointments were scheduled for that late afternoon. Sandals promotes a combination of pool and beach activities but we only had the opportunity to experience the pool offerings and there was no compensation or alternatives offered for the loss of the beach activities..
