Eliminate the Diesel & add more Chocolate

We visited Las Brisas for the 4th time for 3 weeks over Feb/Mar 2020 (when Covid took over the world). In a nutshell, you come here to relax, not to party. It’s quiet and skews middle age up. Notable improvements we noticed were the Bellavista buffet restaurant has been completely remodelled, there were several new small items available in the gym, door sweeps have been added to keep the bugs out of the rooms, and some extra water toys were available. I’ll start with some constructive criticism. First, the diesel powered shuttles (some are gas) running throughout the property. Imagine walking through a tropical paradise, admiring all there is to see, listening to the birds, feeling the breeze, smelling the sweet air. Now imagine that with mouthfuls of diesel exhaust. Now imagine this at least once every time you leave your room. We tried, unsuccessfully, to make it once to the lobby or back without this special Brisas treat but we're not able to achieve it over the 3 weeks. Diesel fumes are a known carcinogen, a substance capable of causing cancer in living tissue, so why are these vehicles pouring diesel fumes all over the property? How is it possible Las Brisas has no electric vehicles of any kind, not even the golf carts? Have they not noticed the amount of sun available for solar power? This is the current main failure of the resort in my opinion. Second, Mexico is famous for its chocolate, I believe it was invented here. Someone should provide a history book to the chefs, as chocolate is the rarest thing on the menu here. We went days without seeing any, the white shavings on a few eggy desserts does not count. They make a few items labelled “choco”, which have no chocolate and must use a local version of nutella. Once again, not chocolate. The chocolate mousse at the Pescador was the best we could find. Now, a few complaints. The maid service was very inconsistent. The restocking of the room was inconsistent. We had multiple instances of missed cleaning days and days without coffee supplies in the room. I’ve attached a picture of the glasses/bottles/room service that wasn’t cleaned up at one point. The cups and carafe for our room service coffee, ordered due to there being no coffee in the room, sat for 3 days before being picked up. The maid cleaned the room and left the dishes, what’s up with that? The Mexican restaurant. We go once on each trip to remind ourselves why we don’t go to the Mexican restaurant. This time it was outrageously slow, slow, slow. It was not half full, had 6 male servers, yet it took 15 minutes for a glass of water. After an hour they came back to re-confirm our order. 90 minutes in total to eat 2 courses. Every other a la carte is half the time max. This would all be fine if the food was awesome, but it is not. It’s as if this restaurant is not part of the hotel and is run as it’s own entity. It needs to be fixed. The hard ice cream is no longer available every day in the snack bar, it only appeared once in 3 weeks. You can get soft serve, but it’s not what you would call creamy. In the middle our stay we stopped receiving any bottled water or coffee in our room for 2 days. Why? On to the good stuff. Room We were in building 8 on the back side of the property looking at the Arrocito and Cosmo complexes next door. Great view, lots of steps, very quiet, good wifi. We loved it. We averaged 50 flights of stairs per day during our stay. You can, of course, ride a diesel shuttle everywhere. Food, excluding the Mexican restaurant. The food remains the same. There is always something to be found in the buffet. The food tasted better in the remodelled Bellavista. Science tells us that atmosphere changes how food tastes to us, so maybe they figured something out here. They no longer cook the meat/fish to order in the buffet resulting in the room feeling cooler overall. Outstanding cook for the steak marmitine at the Mediterranean, but the blue cheese sauce smothering it was flavourless and gluggy. The Kasbah Moroccan is always a highlight with it’s unique decor and excellent food. The steaks are inconsistent day to day at the Solarium but can be very good. However, the fish/prawn skewers have large prawns that are neither unshelled, deveined or even butterflied for assistance. You can imagine the fun watching nicely dressed ladies try to shell & devein these at the table while maintaining their dignity. No one serves prawns this large this way. The Pescador provided some nice seafood with shelled prawns. Overall the food is good, not great Gym/Courts The best gym we’ve every seen in a resort. Many new small weights and items. The 12 tennis courts have several taped off and setup for Pickleball, Canada’s new national sport! Beaches 3 to choose from. All very nice. We sailed, swam, paddle boarded and kayaked. About a third of the time no activity was allowed on the water due to conditions. Sadly, my fellow Canadians treat this resort like Cancun and rush down at sun rise to secure beach chairs. In case you can’t count, there are enough for everyone at anytime. That’s all for this, our 4th visit to Las Brisas. We sincerely hope to be able to return in Winter 2021.

We visited Las Brisas Huatulco for the 5th time this year, will we be back? Back to Huatulco for sure, but I think it may be time to try something new again. The weather is unbeatable, the staff is lovely, the snorkeling is good, but things have changed in the last couple of years. Change can be good, but I don't know if some of the changes here are, it is not the same feel anymore. From the people we talked to that we have seen there for the last several years, they feel the same. Aside from this, this year we had the unfortunate luck to be the people with the sewer smell in their room. It took a few days (and lots of our time) to be fixed, so the beginning of our holiday was quite stressful and offputting. The rest of our holiday was ok, was great to see some of the staff well know and love, some where gone, hopefully this hotel corporation realizes how lucky they are to have the staff they do! Is that enough to bring us back again... probably not next time, maybe one day again.

We recently visited Las Brisas in March 2020 for our moms 60th birthday celebration. We had 3 families meet in Huatulco and had a fabulous experience! The resort is large and quite spread out so be prepared to walk a lot... or wait for a shuttle. The shuttle service is incredibly quick and if you call from your room, by the time you go out a shuttle will be right there. We however enjoyed the walking. The rooms were outdated however they were clean, comfortable and well- stocked. The beaches were AMAZING... a highlight for our family. It is in a very protected bay with AMAZING snorkelling within walking distance. We are a family of 5 with 3 daughters aged 13, 10 and 7 and all three girls got to experience snorkelling and LOVED it. We saw so many colourful fish and coral. It is very hot so be prepared with LOTS of sunscreen and sun shirts for the kids. The food was good, the buffet was one of the best we have been to and we actually preferred it to the couple of a la carte restaurants were tried. They have a different themed dinner each night. There were a few negatives, such as the resort didn't have rooms for a family of five, so we had to book two, and the pool was pretty small with no food or drinks allowed near it, which is challenging with kids! But overall we had a wonderful time, it was perfect weather the entire time, felt safe and comfortable. Would recommend for sure!

There were 16 of us (11 adults, plus 5 children under 12). The 3 beaches are fantastic. Also are the 3 pools. Food was amazing, especially in the Kasbah & Mexican restaurants. The Family Suites accommodations were superior. The grounds at Las Brisas are expansive and very hilly. The custom trucks/vans take you to your room.

My wife and I recently spent 14 days at Las Brisas Huatulco. We were pleased with the accommodation, it was very clean and well maintained. The food was great and we enjoyed every alacarte on site! The beaches were outstanding! We were usually pool people but the beaches were so great we never went in a pool. Employees at the hotel were so very helpful and friendly, especially Martin our Manzanillo Beach waiter. He was so attentive our glasses were kept full all the time. No one can walk fast and carry a large tray of drinks like Martin! We holiday in Mexico annually and Huatulco is a place I can see us frequenting to experience the great weather and friendly people!
