Book a different hotel!

Despite reading the reviews and researching online, I booked this hotel for a trip to Big Island this summer. I booked based on the location (since we were doing a lot of activities in Kona) and figured a Sheraton couldn't be that bad... Well, I was wrong! It took us forever (over 30 minutes to check in) and it was a bit of a maze to get to our room. Despite pleasant looking photos online, the rooms were well worn and the bathroom in disrepair. The hotel showed significant signs of wear and the lobby and common areas are a wreck! I am pretty forgiving, but what got me was trying to sleep was near impossible! Every time someone walked by our closed their door in a nearby room you would feel the walls shake! Not very restful! After having a terrible experience at the pool and the bar, we decided enough was enough! We moved hotels and it was the best decision ever! After adding the resort fees and taxes, this hotel is not a bargain. I recommend fully exploring your option! Stay up north at the Koala coast hotels and rent a car. It may be more expensive, but it is worth it! Enjoy your vacation! As a plus, the hotel shop was lovely.
Nice Hotel

We were there for 5 nights. Too busy to really relax at the hotel. I used my hotel points but used cash to upgrade to an ocean view room, which in our case was actually, Keahhou Bay. Looking at TripAdvisor's photo, our room was in the right wing facing the camera. I was expecting an ocean horizon view. Probably the best hotel restaurant view on the island, Rays on the Bay. This hotel doesn't have a beach but we found that the Big Island beaches are small and rare. Good location if you want to divide your time between the northern and southern parts of the island.
Disappointed

We have been planning this trip for awhile and picked this hotel to stay at. The grounds, location of the hotel and exterior of the building are beautiful. When we entered the hotel room we were very disappointed. This hotel was used very hard! The room smelled like cat pee. The bathtub had 2 holes in the bottom of it. The toilet was leaking water from the handle, so your fingers would get wet. We don't mind spending good money for a clean room and working order room. This place fell short. Don't stay here!
It gets better each time we go!

This was our third visit to the hotel in the past five years. It just keeps getting better. If you go, you should get a room that faces the ocean, as watching the manta rays swimming at night is just fascinating. The rooms were spacious, the pool is fantastic, the game room is great, and the food is terrific. The buffet breakfast was incredible. Paul Evasick is doing an incredible job as general manager. Jennifer Gannon is a fabulous front desk manager. Together, they found us the most beautiful room. It was clean, updated, and we felt like we had a hotel to ourselves. Absolutely an amazing experience.

Not what we were expecting. Very basic. It has not been updated in years. Lobby is nice but rooms (we stayed in the more expensive premium rooms) are slightly better than a motel 6. Much better options are available nearer to the airport and restaurants. Restaurant in the resort is okay. I wouldn't stay here again.
