4 stars only in comparison to some of the more upscale hotels on Kauai; 5 stars for value for the dollar, We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel, not expecting it to be much more than a close-to-the-airport place to sleep for a night. It is in fact a lovely, reasonably priced, and very pleasant property. It sits on a beautiful beach that isn't great for swimming (rocks, fairly rough surf, steep drop-off in places) but great for relaxing, taking pictures, walking, and sunrises. There's a terrific bar and grill (Lava Lava) right on the ocean, with plenty of seating at the edge of the beach. There are two nice, clean small pools and a large hot tub. Landscaping across the entire property is meticulously kept. The rooms are large, clean, and comfortable, if a bit spartan. The parking lot is a very tight fit, with little room to maneuver and narrow spaces. Large vehicles beware. The staff is very pleasant and accommodating. We would absolutely stay here again.

Great place to stay, clean rooms, good service. My only suggestion would be to have a hospitality room for people who take the red eye flight home. They do offer a late check out of 12 noon if requested.

    Fantastic!

So glad we chose to stay her. Beachfront property was a huge plus. We also appreciated the valet parking included with the resort fee. The rooms were clean and plenty of room. The location worked for us.

Staff was very helpful and caring for our needs. The room was clean and was pleasant. We get got an ocean view room...that was sweet. At night there's fireplaces where you can sit and chill; get toasty. The beach is right in front. While we were there, the waters seemed a little rough so we ended up at salt pond beach...much better. The Lava Lava Beach Club was right on the hotel grounds. The food was...ok; drinks were A+ though. Service was a little slow, but servers were very nice. The coconut marketplace was next door so we did most of our eating there, and shopping. The general store at the marketplace is owned by ABC so you'll pay those prices. But there's coffee and food at 6:30 am =) Overall, very pleased with Kauai Shores. We're coming back for sure!

We booked a 2 week/2 island trip for our 20th anniversary through Costco and stayed at Kauai Shores for the first week of our adventure. The location was perfect for being able to easily explore the whole island. We really enjoyed this hotel. Our room and the property were both clean and comfortable. The staff was polite, although we really didn't have a lot of interaction with them - there was no need for that. Being close to the Coconut Marketplace was wonderful. We walked there every morning to grab some coffee and a cheap breakfast. Having the Lava Lava Beach Club right there was nice as well. Great place to have a drink, but I thought their food was a little overpriced for what you got. This is not by any means a fancy hotel, but it was perfect for us and we would definitely return. As others mentioned, the parking stalls are quite narrow. We were always able to find an end spot so it wasn't a huge issue for us. We didn't use the valet parking so I can't comment on that.
