The hotel is in a great location and the staff is very friendly. There is a very nice pool and beach. The place was clean but needs some upgrades. I would stay at the property again because of the closeness to the Golden Zone.

The Ugly: We are staying at the ROYAL VILLAS at the moment and are under SEIGE by LOUD "musicians" who camp out every day on the beach directly in front of the resort for several hours a day and play insanely loud "folk" music consisting of Tubas, trumpets Drums and amplified " troubadours". You can not sit by the pool or barley stand the RACKET it in your room. At first we thought this was a Carnival Festival thing and are trying to be tolerant respecting another peoples culture. But it has been going for two weeks now!!!! and is ruining our vacation. They seem to be playing for people who show up and sit on the beach in front of the hotel, the beach in Mexico is a public place and I think that is a good thing but the "resort" is supposed to be a private business and not Public beach access but hotel management/staff they seem to encourage this and set up chairs and offer food and drink service for those who don't bring there own coolers. The wrist band and hotel security is non existent. The BAD: the resort has become fairly run down with poorly equipped rooms, plugged sinks, non working fridges, ice makers, washers and Crappy WI FI which is a "first world problem" but considered a necessity in any decent resort. The GOOD: The doormen are ALL very friendly and helpful and the cleaning staff are also great, very thorough and pleasant. So unless you enjoy excruciating LOUD trumpet, tuba and drum music 4-6 hours a day I would stay away.

Description of hotel not even close to reality. Worst beach area I have ever seen in my life. There is really no beach. Not one you can put a blanket on anyway. No palapas. Nothing No beach activities. Neighborhood looks like the best that Syria has to offer. Run down abdondoned buildings on all sides.. most of the description on Trip Advisor totally false as far as what this property is or has to offer. No karaoke, no nightly entertainment, no games room. Worst buffet ever And ive seen everything from outstanding to unfit for human consumption. And the only reason we got a buffet was when they had a corporate event and we got to eat with them. As long as we sat in the back. Them in their business attire and me in my shorts at the buffet. Nice. Loud music going all morning. After which we got to listen to this twit doing here salsa and salsa tour. Taking over our bar and lounge area. Noisy and loud. Hotel is open to the public with families coming in everyday enjoying the pool. Only common area taken over by outside tour groups and functions. Weddings on weekends as they share the only pool bar. So if you dont mind being under dressed for a wedding standing in your shorts while the guy next to you is in a tuxedo than you wont have a problem. Stay away at all costs. Over priced and all inclusive vacationers are not really welcome as most of revenue comes from locals. Food and beverage manager is watching everything you drink and eat. Which is easy since all intrusive visitors( no thats not a typo) we were only a handful there. My glass of wine was half what paying customers were getting. Extremely loud and noicy with no escape. Not even your hotel room with all windows and doors closed. Music during the day so loud you cant have a conversation in the pool and often couldnt go in because of all the locals and their children there for the day. Live band playing in an outside venue across the street every night past midnight. Sounded like they were playing on our balcony. The day we arrived at 12:30 wouldnt sign us in. Left hotel to get something to eat. Even at 2:30 went across the street to have a beer. They wanted me to pay at the bar until 3:00 . Jerk offfs. Ive been a. F&B Manager with Fairmont Hotels and Resorts and I know how to cook. When I pay alot of money my expectations go up. When I pay very little for an all inclusive than I dont expect anything and just happy to escape the winter for a week and be on the beach with a cold drink. But priced higher than the Riu leaves me speechless! Manager very nice guy and staff friendly. Gave us upgrade. Up to the 11 th floor beachfront . Nice room and were able to have some quiet and pretty good sleep. Hotel clean and interesting design but not a resort in any sense of the word.

It's a 12 floor hotel, in the Golden Zone, so it's safe to go walking around, and great restaurants even though we were an all inclusive, al carte. Breakfast Thursday to Sunday buffet. Food at that pool is excellent, pizza's are to share. Dora is the aqua size teacher Monday to Friday 7:45 to 8;45, such a great class so happy they have it. Beach is right by the pool, but no lounge chairs, because it is so close. great beach to walk in the morning, or afternoon. I think next time I would just rent a room and go to town and eat, the food was good, but Lucky B is a good place to eat, Fat Fish (for ribs) Rico coffee place has great coffee. and near there is some good restaurants as well.

    Mixed Feelings

We would give this resort mixed reviews. A very small footprint here so not much room to wander on the hotel property. However, the beach was great for walking long distances. As well the hotel is located right on the main drag so lots of shops, restaurants etc nearby. This was a plus but also a minus as there was lots of traffic making the road difficult to cross as well as providing lots of noise. The hotel itself has an opening extending through all twelve stories so noise from the lowest level reverberates all the way to the top. There were two weddings at the hotel which we are joy to witness the beautiful dresses and happy Mexican families, but some people might find the noise to be a problem. We were fine with it. Other than the music for the weddings, there was no nightly entertainment at this resort. Daily entertainment consisted of local singers on some days, a Salsa group for cruise ship participants, and recorded music for the pool which was quite loud. There was a pool table which had other things crowded around it, a ping pong table, foose ball table, etc but required a fee to use which we have never encountered at any other resort so we did not use. Rooms had comfortable beds but linens were stained. Sheets were not changed daily and we noticed a musty odor in the beds after we were there around a week. Bathrooms were attended to daily but not immaculate by any means. Be sure to tip housekeeping or service slides even further. Complimentary water and soft drinks were provided in the room which was appreciated. There is no mini fridge or coffee pot in the room. The air conditioning was very powerful and great. Pool area was clean. Most days service was efficient. This resort does allow smokers to smoke anywhere around the pool which we found to be quite annoying. Smokers would probably appreciate this, though. Food is provided in 3 areas. The morning breakfast buffet which serves some breakfast foods and some lunch foods, but closes at noon which we found odd. You can then order a limited variety of meals through the pool snack bar for the afternoon. Supper is served in the restaurant. Food was very good and fresh but limited choices. There is an extra charge for certain foods like steak, lobster and specialty shrimp. The staff are very friendly. Wi-fi service was excellent and complimentary. Had a pedicure, manicure, and haircut at the salon. Mixed feelings about this. The mani and pedi were well done, but no top coat provided for the polish so did not last long so ended up wasting my money. The haircut was also well done, but felt ignored by the hairdresser as she talked in Spanish to the other staff and only addressed me with a couple of questions about what I wanted done. Definitely did not feel pampered. I seemed to be the only customer on that day.
