We will be back

Trishiarh1 (Saskatoon, Canada) on Apr 11, 2024

I turned to reviews when we booked this resort and I was concerned with some of the things people had to say so was relieved when we arrived and had a wonderful week at the resort. This resort is budget friendly with a perfect location and therefore a good deal for the money. We upgraded to an ocean front room which I highly recommend. I would give our room 3.5 stars while the view from the balcony exceeded our expectations. Clean and fresh bedding each day and a comfy bed. Food was average, but always something good to eat. The beach provided ample opportunity to run and walk which we enjoyed everyday. Pools need a refresh but were fine. Chill vibe with nobody hassling about timeshares. We will be back!

I do not recommend this resort

The fact that they used hot dogs as “breakfast sausages” and on the ham and pineapple pizza says enough. Our room got cleaned once, had to ask for a mini fridge in our room and it didn’t even work. There buffets were not good. If you wanted to go to one of the other restaurants on site, you have to be up before 8am to book a reservation. We tried every day to book and it always said sold out, and you can only book a reservation for that day, not a few days in advance.

Happy to Return for our 12th Visit...

Maxer2013 (Ponoka) on Apr 03, 2024

Had another great week at RD with our daughter & son-in law .. Probably our 12th visit... hadn't been for 3 years because of covid .. It's not a 5 * ..but we love the staff .. always a smile & willing to please .. so return year after year. Have been at other 5 * resorts but return to RD. Found they had made a few upgrades like tv & safe... Rooms are old but kept v. clean... found the bed comfortable.. Food good.. Italian a la carte the best. Entertainment top notch.. Because I use a walker they put us in block 4 close to the buffet... very accommodating. We hope to return for our 13th visit... But if you're a high maintenance person I suggest you check out a different resort...

Good time with friends and family

We had good time on the resort. Very clean, good food. Night show entertainment events are exceptional. Thanks to the animator (pitbull:)) who brings so much fun, either during the day or at night. Very well involved with the kids and adults. Please see Dany, very good waiter, taking of people during dinner time.

We will be back.

For comparison, we have been to Mexico, Cuba, or the Dominican Republic yearly for the past 25 years and have stayed in everything from 3 star to 5 star resorts. This was our 9th trip to the Puerto Vallarta/Nayarit area. This was our second visit to the Royal DeCameron Complex. A lot of the things that people complain about, I actually agree with, or are factually true. There is no fridge in the room, there is no beach or pool service, there are still actual keys for the door and the safe. However they are in the process of adding fridges and while we were there they were actively changing out the safes. We don’t consider it to be a big issue to walk 20 feet to a grab a drink at a bar, and you are never far from one. A lot of people say there is no wifi except in the lobbies which is incorrect. We were in building 3 both years. The first year we were on the second floor and we were able to get it in our room in the morning or the evening when internet traffic would have been lower. This year we were on the third floor facing the Flamingo and were able to get it on our deck throughout the day. We were always able to use it in the buffet and around the ocean side bars. Although we did not try it, it probably would not have worked by buildings 5 and 6. The rooms are definitely dated but our bed was very comfortable as were the pillows and everything was clean. We had plenty of hot water for the shower when we showered early in the day, not so much if we wanted to shower before supper but it was still warm. The Flamingo buffet had all new tables and chairs since last year. We aren’t fussy eaters and do not want or expect anything fancy. We thought the food was good, but that is subjective. Everyone has different tastes and what I like you may not. What you like, I may not. I would agree that it could have been warmer at times. Service at restaurants and bars was always good. We walked up to the Chedraui on the first morning and picked up facial tissues and extra clothes hangers (never been to a resort yet that had enough hangers). I brought face cloths from home, because it is rare that a resort provides those. We did receive them this time. It is generally an older crowd, and the majority of younger people are young Mexican families, so be aware that this is not a party resort. It does irritate me when reviewers talk about it being “funny” that there are so many old people there, or that is “like a nursing home”. If you are lucky you will live to be an “old” person and lucky if you are healthy enough to travel. We don’t have to hide at home so that you can pretend that you will never be old. The location of the DeCameron is excellent for exploring the town and going to local restaurants and bars, and close enough to the City of Puerto Vallarta to enjoy what it has to offer as well. Don’t stay at the resort all the time - the beauty of the area is the culture. The Sunday market at La Cruz is well worth the 10 minute taxi ride. This is a really good 3 star resort with 5 star staff. Frankly if you want a 5 star resort, pay for it. And don’t complain about getting a 3 star when that is what you paid for.
