Great family trip to this beautiful beach

I spent hours researching resorts in the DR and ultimately landed on this one. I was a little hesitant due to some of the reviews but the resort is great. The grounds are beautiful and the beach is phenomenal. We stayed in the preferred club building across the street. The food was good, not gourmet, but I would say better than expected based on the reviews. We rented bali beds a few days and Nelson was fantastic. Our butler Carlos was also wonderful and our room attendant Jessica. Overall the service was fantastic. My only suggestion would be a few more activities during the day.
Top rate staff

The beach is beautiful although busy and the food is excellent at this impeccably maintained property. What makes this property stand out for me, however, is the quality of the amazing staff. They are always friendly and helpful.
Great place to stay

Grounds are very well maintained and kept up with daily. Food options are well flavored and tasty. Staff is very friendly. Sony and Edwin are very knowledgeable and very willing to help with any issues that may come up during your stay. Mailen is great in the pool for drinks and Alba is great at the lobby bar.
Dreams and Yosi Ramirez shine.

All my reviews use the same format, so it isn't just a general review, but breaks out each area and then a total score. Any questions, please let me know. This was a return trip, but just for my wife and myself for a 21st anniversary retreat. This will be a longer than normal review because there are many things to cover so, I hope you find it valuable. ARRIVAL: We flew direct to PUJ into terminal one. Customs took all of five minutes to clear and onto baggage claim which took about twenty minutes. It was better than the last trip, as we were the only flight arriving in terminal one at the time. We booked our transfer through DAT. Do not skimp on a good transfer and do your research. There are a ton of bad ones. Also, DO NOT use a taxi service. Once at the meeting point, we waited about 10-15 minutes for our van to arrive. PRO-TIP: Go to the little cantina outside of the terminal by the transfer shuttles, grab a few empanadas and a couple Presidente cold beers. You can thank me later. Our ride to Dominicus took 44 minutes. CHECK-IN: Once we arrived at the Preferred Club area, we ran into our old friend Yosi Ramirez. I will brag more on her later. The lobby area was very busy, but she recognized us and took us to the side and helped with our check-in which was about five minutes or so. We were shuttled to our room in building 64 which is on the main side (which we wanted this time). Our bags took an hour to arrive to our room (we had to call to get them). That wasn’t a big deal because we were relaxing with a rum cocktail that was in our room for us. PROPERTY: Dreams Dominicus is a very compact resort when compared to similar properties. It is divided into two parts. The larger main resort comprised of Preferred Club and regular rooms, and the newer Preferred Family Suites which is just across the street. There is a tunnel you can walk to or use the many gold cart shuttles to go back and forth. The main side has three massive pools. Two near the beach which has music, etc. There is a swim-up bar at the pool closest to the beach. If you want to chill, there is the “relax pool” located closer to the main lobby. It also has a bar, “Barracuda” but it is not a swim-up. The resort if very clean, the landscaping is spectacular, and the staff does a ton of work to keep it looking fresh and new. If you walk up and down the beach past other resorts, you will see why Dreams stands above the others. There are three parts to the beach. Two preferred and one regular. There was plenty of room in the preferred areas. We always went to the beach that was by the club restaurant and bar. There are numerous palapas and loungers. We had no issues getting front row by the ocean. Now, I will say that the resort was not very crowded. I would estimate 70% occupancy. Onsite there are many dining options. No dinner reservations are accepted unless you work directly with your butler for those in Preferred Club and you are staying in certain room types. ROOM/ACCOMODATIONS: This time we had a beautiful suite in building 64 which was a perfect location for us. The room itself was well appointed and had a shared private pool (which was nice). The resort supplies you with a bottle of rum, beer, snacks and sodas and water. There are no irons or boards in the room, but you can request one. There is a steamer though. We had a one-bedroom suite with a separate living area patio and a nice size bathroom with huge walk-in shower which seemed the same as the one we had on the family side last year. Let it be noted that evening activities in the center square can be bothersome for those that wish to turn in early. Those usually start around 9:15 and end at 10:00. It was not an issue for us. STAFF/SERVICE: Here is where Dreams stands above every other AI we have visited. Now, we are NOT huge AI fans. We prefer smaller boutique resorts. That said the list of staff to provide accolades is long. Too long to mention every name. We have stayed at five-star resorts, and I will tell you that NOBODY has topped the amazing Yosi Ramirez who is a concierge manager in the preferred club. I refer to her as the crowned jewel of resort employees. She has left an ever-lasting impression on my family. So much that we will still communicate with her. The level of attention she provides, as well as the ability to have forethought into needs is impeccable. This visit, she provided the same. A standard that should be copied for all resort staff. One day she will be a GM for a property. I am shocked she has not one already. We love you, Yosi. Thank you for everything. Keep smiling and keep being amazing. Mr. Jhonatan Rijo, I hope you read this and recognize Yosi! Dany, our butler was great as well. He responded to our requests and accommodated them nicely. Very polite and obviously very good at what he does. The one and only Freddy Krueger. This man also remembered us. He is with the entertainment team working the main lobby with guests. Our housekeeper in the room. I do not recall her name (that is my fault), but if the concierge team would like to message me, we can figure that out. She was always there during the day to straighten, restock and then turn down beds while we were at dinner. The staff in Bordeaux is the best for a reason. The work their way into that restaurant. We had a reservation on Tuesday night (3/19) thanks to Dany and our staff was top-notch. Our friends in the preferred club bar and restaurant. Marcelo, you are awesome as well! Special treats were also delivered to our suite and special decorations in the room for our anniversary. It is the little things. FOOD/BARS: There are many dining options. Two areas are for preferred club only. One on the family side (Flying Fish) for breakfast and lunch, and one on the main side at the beach for all meals and drinks. Seaside Grill, Himatsu (Pan-Asian), Portofino (Italian), La Trattoria, and World Café. The food is good for an AI resort. There are dishes that excel, as well as restaurants. We enjoyed the preferred club for most meals at the beach, but also liked Bordeaux and Portofino. Be aware that you are NOT at home, so expect some variations from what you normally get. The beach grilling meals are very good. It's tough to beat meals cooked right there. The bars are also spread far and wide. You will not go thirsty. Drinks can and do vary by bar. Especially the rum punch. Top shelf liquor is at the bars, if you ask. I am not sure why others say it was a problem because it never has been for us. We loved our pre-dinner drinks at the Rendezvous lobby bar. The staff there knew our drinks after day one. When they saw us walk in and sit down, drinks were already on the way. The preferred club beach bar – Get the Banana Mama. Made with whole banana. Great beach drink. Of course, there is the great beer, Presidente. ENTERTAIMENT: Go see these. The amazing crews work hard to practice, and it shows. Dominican night is unreal, as is the “fire show”. Kudos for all the hard work that is put into each show. They are very underrated. SUMMARY: I will say it. Dreams is a great resort with even better staff. They are the reason this place works. They are the reason guests return. I challenge you to find a better one. Our experience at Dreams Dominicus was wonderful. No, it is not cheap. Yes, you can spend less money for an AI resort two resorts down the beach or even next door. But it will not be that of this property. Would we come back? Yes. Will we? Yes. And it is because of the people here. People like Yosi. Scoring: CHECK-IN: 9.0/10 PROPERTY: 9.0/10 ROOM: 9.0/10 STAFF/SERVICE: 9.5/10 FOOD/BAR: 7.5/10 ENTERTAIMENT: 10/10 OVERALL WEIGHT: 9/10 TRIPADVISOR STARS: 4 MY STARS – 4 (An increase of ½ stars since last visit)
Dreams Dominicus is truly a Dream

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Dreams Dominicus La Romana. The beach is one of the most beautiful we have ever experienced. The property is well maintained and the service was above and beyond. We would go back in a heartbeat. I strongly recommend booking the Preferred Club. We used the amenities. Our butler, Zoraida, was a gem. She even organized a birthday party for a member of our group. Shout out to Reynaldo at the bar as well, He made sure we were taken care of all week. Can't wait to go back!
