I have mixed feelings about this hotel. I stayed at the adult part of the resort. To start with a positive: the beach is gorgeous. Even though it's a little bit too commercial like Cancun or Miami where all of the commercial resorts are next to each other. The concierges are very very friendly and try to attend all your needs even though they keep insisting on selling you a Melia vacation package (think $50K+) The restaurants are good. The pool isn't the cleanest. Bars are scarce for an ALL INCLUSIVE. Other hotels have a bar at the beach and a server taking orders on your beach chair. Its all about the details. My main complaint would be that you need to use their carts to go places, which I am ok with. But they create a general burnt fuel smell all over. And add up the smell of the boat engines at the beach (they are next to a yacht port). This kills the experience. Go elsewhere.

Given the Covid situation (including the country mandated lockdown), overall our stay was really good. We went with a group of 8. Service - -Concierge - Eddie S. our concierge came up and immediately checked us in and dropped us at our room and got us connected so we could easily get ahold of him. He also introduced us to Juan A, another concierge so if he wasn't available, we could go to Juan. They were great with our reservations and services. - Bar - By far, the best bar was the rooftop bar at Quimera. Jose & Roberto made each night a great experience and kept it fun. They also made the best drinks. - Spa - I would recommend Wendi for a massage, she was great. Grounds -The grounds are big, and my understanding is there are usually bikes, but I assume these are taken away due to Covid. However, the trams run constantly, and if they see you walking, they pick you up. Honestly, after eating, who couldn't use a walk ? -The beach is amazing. The sand is incredibly soft, and minimal waves, even on red flag days. I've been to Mexico - Rivieria Maya area, and by far the beach at Melia was better. We also loved how close the beach was to the resort. -The vendors on the beach. Yes there are a lot. Yes its pretty bad, but its likely because there are A LOT of resorts still closed, and the ones that are open are at low occupancy. So they are working to feed their families. If you tell them no, they usually keep moving. If you are sleeping or reading, they won't wake/bother you. -The Circle Melia sales staff. Be aware of these people. They tried to get my room number, which is a HUGE red flag. They are persistent and got 1/4th of our group to go on their tour. If you do get suckered in, its about an hour of your time. -They closed the Punta Cana lobby half way through our stay - which was a bummer, because this had the best gift shop. Like if you forgot toiletries, better magnets, etc than the one by the pool. -Overall it was clean. There are areas that are neglected but I assume its to reduce costs, given the occupancy levels. And really these areas aren't too frequented unless you decide to go on a walkabout. Room -Our group stayed in 4 different rooms in 3 different buildings. Each room was a bit different for the same price level, but overall they were good. The AC worked great, the bed was comfortable. The TV reception was a bit bad, but we didn't care. We aren't there to stay in our room, other than shower, change and sleep. The water temp in the shower was a bit of a struggle, but we managed. - I wish I knew who our hotel staff person was so I could mention their name. I asked the first day for a few extra of the large towels, and we got them every time they serviced the rooms. It was AMAZING. - Again with Covid, there were things missing in the room, but I'm not sure that we missed it. Food -Due to Covid, menus were limited. But by far the best meals were at Quimera for dinner, breakfast at Rumba, dinner at Muoi and Casta Nostra. -Be prepared that while the food wasn't FANTASTIC, it was still pretty decent. There are items that may not be available, or they may be a bit different than the menu. I.e. a sauce is supposed to be one thing, but come out as something else. Doesn't mean its bad, its just different. Activities/Entertainment -Due to the country lockdown, this is very limited. There are still some during the day, but really nothing after 4pm. I would suggest cards, a ball, frisbee, or something small to pack so you can entertain yourself. No beach volleyball, swim up bar is closed. -If you are looking for a party atmosphere, given the country's restrictions, this is not it. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation, where you find a spot at the pool or beach with a book or nap, or if you want to have the resort with half the amount of people, then look no further. Covid -Its clear that Melia is doing everything they can to make sure you are having a good time, while maintaining safety. This is a precarious balance, and they are doing great. -Sanitizing and gloves are provided at buffets. -All employees wear masks that remain over their nose and mouth. And asks guests to wear theirs if they are in a crowded area. -Silverware was in a bag so that passerbys couldn't get them dirty -Mask wearing - yes its required, but when you are eating, or social distancing its not. It is required on the trams, and in the buildings, but nothing really different from what we see in the US. -The curfews don't apply to resort, so you can still roam about after. -While we were there, the US announced the negative Covid test to return, the staff wasn't worried about this as they have already been doing this for other countries (Canada and UK). -Keep in mind the Covid precautions are in place, so they don't have to close again. Its devastating to the employees & their families, the country's economy and beyond. They are walking a line and hoping you spend your entertainment dollar with them. Overall this was a really nice resort with a fantastic beach that is definitely walkable.

We absolutely loved it! We had Moises who did everything for us. He would make dinner reservations for us, pick us up on the golf cart and take us places, and brought us new keys. It was so peaceful and relaxing. Although, we wished more restaurants were open but we do understand with covid.

lovely safe hotel and beach, with so so food and service, and WAY too hard a sell

The hotel is lovely and the beach is gorgeous. However, the food is a very mixed bag. Some items weren't even safe- they were rotten or old. Other days they just ran out of many food items. (Maybe the low crowds for covid make it harder..?) The service was so so. The front desk, spa and maintenance never once answered the phone. Maintenance never fixed our toilet- we asked 5 times. The sell is WAY too hard- they literally come find you on the beach and harass you for time share or upgrades at the hotel. If you want a nice safe spot, and you dont mind bad food and telling the sellers No Thank You all day long, this place works. It really is pretty, but I doubt we go back. It's a shame, as a with a kitchen overhaul and less pushy sales staff this place could be great. get a room at the Level or you are too far from the beach and have less food options
