It was my first time to Costa Rica and I found this resort on Expedia. This hotel is clean, decent and average. The rooms are clean and upkeep once a day which is nice. The food is average and it would have been nicer if it was more of the culture's delicacy would have been my preference. The staff was hospitable and welcoming.

This is the third time I'm coming here it used to be very good but it this time the "early check-in" has a different color brasalet that does not allow you to drink eat or do anything just use the pool, the extra Is $40 per person for the price I'm paying there is no value the only Benefit is how close it is from San Jose but driving 5-10 more minutes gives me Better options, I will not recommend this place to anyone

    Costa Rica welcome!

What a wonderful experience!. Our family stayed for 10 days at Hotel Arenas and made day trips in and around the area to experience Costa Rica. The team at Hotel Arenas were a big part of the positive experience we had. The desk staff, restaurant staff, Bar staff and cleaning staff were all so amazing. Within a few days we felt like family. Thank you all for your patience with our attempts to speak Spanish and for the extra effort you all made to make my husbands birthday a very special experience. As Arnold said ‘we’ll be back’

scammed us on excursion and cab ride!

My family of 4 booked an excursion at the front desk, asking for a monkey tour. The gentleman immediately set up and we paid $300. the next day we got in van for Mendez Tours and it was 1 hour late so we had to drive thru the 'hood' of CR looking for monkeys etc!! Finally get on the boat and its "Alligator Man Tours'....not what I asked for. We boarded 1 hour later and we saw 1 alligator within 2.5 hours (my husband is convinced its fake) and 2 monkeys....I share because the guy at desk is clearly incentivized by Adventure Park and Mendez tours, not interested in what is best for the guest. We graciously paid and didn't make a scene. Two days later we return in the AM to park our car and the front desk said they would be happy to call us a cab. We arrived and it clearly wasn't that seemless, they finally called a cab once they got someone who spoke a little English and said 10 minutes. After 17 minutes we had no choice but to drive ourselves to front gate so at not to miss the Tortuga day we booked on our own for $500. Get to front gate and the cabbie was sent after us by the girl at front desk, he wanted money we explained he was late and that was all. Parked at front gate, security said it was fine, guess what....our rental was 'keyed' on right side of door and we can only assume it was the random driver. I share because when I spoke to Manuel, the manager at Arenas, he said it is forbidden to call no name drivers, must be a legitimate taxi business. That is all, the Arenas assumes zero responsibility for either of these and I want to prevent someone else from losing money like this. very disappointed in your lack of action Manuel, your staffs actions cost us a lot of money. It looks like a lot of happy people at the Hotel Punta Leona, definitely try and book that instead. good luck!

This was my first time in Punta Leona. Hotel Arenas is about 500 mts away from Playa Mantas, which is one of the 2 beaches that you can get to as you enter the gated community of Punta Leona. So if you drive down to the beach you’ll have to pay to park. Playa Blanca is the other beach. This one has white sand, but only members of the club or Punta Leona Hotel guests have access to Playa Blanca, unless you get to cross over from Playa Mantas to Playa Blanca during low tide. My family and I stayed in one of the superior rooms and it was nice and clean (nicer that the 2 other all-inclusive hotels we have been to). The beds were comfortable and the pillows were ok. One could hear a lot of the outside noise; early in the mornings you can hear the birds and later in the day you hear the music from the pool area. The staff was all nice and helpful. Overall it is a good hotel. However, compared to other all- inclusive hotel you might find yourself a bit disappointed at first, but by the second day you’ll learn to embrace it, and realize that it isn’t bad. Compared to other all-inclusive hotels, Hotel Arenas is a much smaller hotel, so the pool isn’t as crowded, and there’s not as much food or services offered, but we have enjoyed our stay here.
