My daughter and I stayed here for a week during a very unprecedented time around the world... little did we know that within 24-48 hours of departing our home province in Canada, the world would come to a complete halt. It was the most unsettling time to be away and difficult to enjoy while counting the hours until we would return home. Who would’ve imagined this. What made this week more bearable, were the exceptional staff and their caring, heartfelt attention to our needs. They made every effort to accommodate us in any way possible and for this, I’m grateful. Constant smiles, warm and friendly hellos, attentive customer service whenever and wherever possible. This is what matters most in my opinion. All the reviews I’d read before coming, some were in line with our experience and others not so much but of all things important, this hotel met our expectations and we would unquestionably return. We look forward to a future, redo trip under more calm and ideal circumstances. I would absolutely recommend this hotel as it gave us a feeling of home. No shortage of anything. Whatever you needed, they were on it. All the ladies that worked The Cohiba Bar were exceptionally friendly, so sweet and kind. The staff everywhere on the resort were amazing! The hotel is kept very clean which is a huge plus in my opinion, the food was great, quite impressed actually and the beach and bar staff at the beach were fantastic! A very special thank you to Beatrice. You are a wonderful woman and Labranda is very lucky to have to have you on staff. I greeted you at 7:00 am my first morning at the resort with tears, sadness and fear due to the rising spread and fear of COVID-19 and you did everything you could to support me and my daughter. Thank you Beatrice, I hope to see you again. Xo Another special thank you to Naomy (Customer Service Staff) for again, sharing words of comfort and support, going above and beyond to make us feel at ease. Thank Naomy. Thank you to all Labranda staff and Management, we will be back. Our prayers go out to the entire world... may we find our way back to peace and comfort, through our strength and perseverance. Love, health and peace to all. #covid19

I am here right now in this hotel and please follow my recommondations 1. this hotel is not for english speaker. English communication is a huge problem. if you are a spanish then you hit jackpot with regards to communication. 2. no body will listen to your complain. toilet tissue finished 6am called reception I explain that we need toilet paper I dont know what she said in English and she put down the phone on me and its 12pm no toilet paper .hahahh. 3.people at the reception are unable to speak english they have no local knowledge. the porters have better english than receptionist. 5. Hot water from the shwer not always available. 6. toilet in the hotel are broken, no toilet paper or no soap haaha . But the best part is the sea.

We had a great time at the Labranda resort in Varadero. The 2 weeks we spent there in February, would have us visit the same resort again if we went to that city again. Check-in was a breeze. We were quickly given our wrist bands so we could access the bar and the buffet. Carlos and Marco the bell boys were very helpful and kept our bags in safe keeping till we could access our rooms after 4 p.m. The rooms our group was given in the main building were good but lacked a few niceties like bedside tables having drawers, the huge closet not having a light, shelves to store your clothes, and more hangers. (I’m sure if we asked, we would get them). The shower in the bathroom was missing the sliding door (with water tending to spray out on the floor). The sink tap sprayed water all over the place. I have to say there are minor items that need fixing in the rooms. We approached the girls at the reception with our concerns. They obliged us by showing us some rooms in the bungalows and were willing to move us to them if they were to our liking. And that’s exactly what took place. All of us were happy. I have to say that Roxana, Danelys, Damays and the other girls at the reception were very friendly and accommodating. Hence for those reviews mentioning that the young women at the reception were unhelpful and that the check-in process was bad, I really do not know what they were talking about. The girls can only do so much and so fast, especially if you have 2 or 3 bus loads arriving at the same time. All it takes...... is treating others the way you would like to be treated. Wi-Fi/internet all over the resort was fairly good. It did come at a small cost. Our chamber-maid Thelena always did a fancy job of getting our room neat and tidy with a supply of towels and other amenities needed in the rooms. A checklist when doing up the rooms would be extremely helpful for them so that they do not forget any utilities needed by the guests. I have to point out that the supervisors should make themselves useful by looking into the maintenance of the showers, the toilet flush systems, the room door locks etc.. The best time to look after these items is when there is a down time in the occupancy of the rooms. Setting up a clear schedule would do the trick. Maricelli and Niliset at the Antillas restaurant were very helpful and made sure all our dining needs were taken care of. The buffet had a good spread. The food is as good as you would expect in Cuba. It is possibly because the spices that are available are limited, both in supply and what the chefs are accustomed to and trained for in the art of cooking. The buffet had varied options in food. But attention should be paid to the coffee always being HOT. The food should also be piping hot, and kept at safe temperatures. The Stir-fry, BBQ, and Fish stations were always the best. The maintenance of equipment is lacking. The ice-cream was not frozen as it should have been. I pointed it out to the supervisors who noted my complaint but nothing was done about it in the 15 days that we were there. Everyone is willing to help but few really take care of it. They should also have an effective fly and insect killing gadget so that insects are not hovering or sitting on the food or crockery and cutlery placed on the tables. Special mention must be made of Geannys, Danay, Yelennys and Wendy the girls who served us at the table. The day we booked dinner at the Med restaurant was a total disappointment. It was Italian food, but an Italian would bow his head in shame if he/she was present the night we were there. The aperitifs were worse than the ones that you pull out of a freezer and pop into a microwave. The food served was cold. You needed a saw to cut the Ravioli. The food a total disappointment. The only saving grace of the evening was Pedro who was serving us and his constant humour that kept us going. Dinner at the Fusion restaurant was much much better. Food was great, well prepared and tasty. Yaimi (Jamie) attended to our needs with her captivating smile and made the evening even better. We also got Jorge to smile. All in all, the evening was a hit. The Cohiba Bar in the main building was the bar where all the action took place. Kendra, Melissa. Roxanna, Avevoneg, Yamari, Milay, Edith, Frank, Bryan and Ronaldo, all of them were the best. They worked relentlessly to keep everyone happy and serve them with speed. I have to mention that the supervisors were absent until the General Manager showed up. But the supervisor who I believe wanted to assert his authority, reprimanded the girls when they were talking/being friendly with the guests. But I must say that even while being friendly with the guests, the girls at the bar didn’t skip a beat in serving all of us with speed. Guests come to the resort again because they feel welcome and at home there. So, supervisors just remember, it is customer service that is Very Important. The nightly entertainment was to our satisfaction although the volume of the music needs fine tuning as it is not supposed to make the guests deaf. The music at the La Sirena pool should be toned down a bit, during siesta time. Quite a few seniors frequent the resort and they need their afternoon nap. I have to mention how helpful and friendly Osman (Pancho)was to us. He always took the time to greet us and see if anyone was in need of anything to make their stay there a pleasant one. Our stay at the resort was enjoyable to say the least. And a return to the resort for a holiday could be a possibility.

The Ocean is Beautiful,. but was windy everyday so no water sports or boats. The Hotel building itself looks nice with the recent renovations as pictures show but our safe did not work and Balcony doors did not lock. We reported to front desk and they said would have fixed and never did duration of stay. Biggest complaints we had freezing cold water the night we arrived and next day and when asked said would have mechanic check following day still nothing but cold on day 4 insisted on new room and after going back hourly 4x finally got a new room and had warm water remainder of the stay! Food at this resort was terrible same buffet 3x a day. Both myself and my husband had terrible sickness from the food 3x during the week resulting in every day feeling ill and having to eat at the same location. This was our 3rd time visiting Cuba and you hear 50/50 on the food but we can say without a doubt from our previous 2 visits once in Varadero once in Cayo Coco that as Canadians coming in with a lower expectation of food in this country understanding the difference from Canada that this place was horrific. I would highly recommend you find another resort,. I do not do reviews often and we are not high maintenance or high expectation people I just want to share our experience in the hope of saving anyone this situation. We could not wait to get home and were thankful we did not bring our kids on this vacation as it was hard enough to endure as adults.

    - Reception stuff incredibly unhelpful and rude, giving me very NON Welcomed feeling - Asking for proof of our reservation , given room below what we paid, until happily I had printed copy of our "ocean view room - Still NOT allowed to check in a room as explained by very rude blonde girl at reception around 11 AM when we arrived : "your room is cleaned and ready but if you want to check in before 4 PM you will have to pay 22 CUC ( ~30 CAN) . After about 10 hours of travelling this is very rude, money grabbing techique this hotel is practicing, very much knowingly that this is destroying their reputability as a hotel - they do not care, as far as I understood people are aware of this but this is High Management decision. Groups and full Bus of respectful tourists (50 people) from Germany had experienced same thing just day after our arrival, as I have seen next morning at reception , Group of tourist from Russia had the same experience after 15-20 hours of travelling. I guess we Canadians are "lucky" with only 4 hour flight.?? - I wish this review can be seen by working people of this resort, who are "suffering" because of these so NONWelcome behaviour of reception people and Management decission. They are barely being tipped and for my 14 times in my favourite destination - CUBA , I have never seen less tipping in any Cuban resort. So sad for some hard working people, but I have personally did not feel welcomed at this resort, and have heard so many others same opinion. So sad... - Message to owner of this resort: allow me/hire me to be Manager of your resort for only 6 months and you will clearly be 4 or 5 star hotel, with small changes will bring you much higher $$$ return and value and respect. - There are soo many other small things that are wrong here and we have experienced , but who is going to read them here ? - I have tried before leaving , and now after 10 days of coming back to complain and to write to the email address given , but NO one is answering and no one is showing interest in listening your guest - there are new ones coming to be fulled same way as you were - so who cares !! That is message of Management of this hotel . Thank You Labranda but I think next time I would be looking for resort very close to you with more WELCOME . Yours truly and Cuban loving guest from Ottawa, Ontario , Canada
