If a connecting flight in your trip is delayed past the one-day limit of testing due to a situation outside of your control (e.g., delays because of severe weather or aircraft mechanical problem):
- If the delay is less than 48 hours past the one-day limit for testing, you do not need to be retested
- If the delay is more than 48 hours past the one-day limit, then you will need to be retested
I have an upcoming flight booked, and I've just tested positive. What are my options?
If you have upcoming travel booked and you have tested positive for COVID-19, you are required to follow local public health instructions including any self-isolation or quarantine before you are able to travel.
Once you are released from any self-isolation required under any government health order at your location, you may be able to travel if you meet the following requirements.
For flights originating in Canada
Once you are released from any provincial or territorial health order, you are deemed to no longer have COVID-19 and are permitted to travel so long as you meet the requirements for the destination you are travelling to.
For certain international jurisdictions where a valid COVID-19 test result is required to travel to, a positive PCR COVID-19 test result may suffice, however, documentation from a medical professional that you have recovered and are cleared for travel may be required along with the test. Please check the travel requirements for your destination.
For flights originating outside of Canada
If you have tested positive outside of Canada, you are required to follow all local public health guidelines. Once you are released from any self-isolation or quarantine, you will be able to travel back to Canada so long as you have one of the following documents:
- A negative PCR COVID-19 test result taken within 72-hours of your departure, or;
- A positive PCR COVID-19 test result taken between 10-180 days prior to your departure.
