Great spot, all inclusive seems like a must

First, this is a great resort with a nice beach, our group of twelve would definitely stay here again. It is a three star resort, nothing more. Rooms are clean and feel fresh. We liked that several Divi properties were connected and easy to walk between. The food in the resort restaurants is fair to excellent. Most of our meals were decent, but a couple were just so-so. We ate at six of their ten restaurants, our group was happiest with the Mexican, Asian and Italian. All of the waitstaff were great. The buffet was great for breakfast and lunch, with a lot of choices. The restaurants accept reservations, but don't seem to enforce a no-show policy. We never had a problem getting a reservation, but the restaurants never seemed full during times that they said they completely booked. We chose the all inclusive option to start after the first day, which in my opinion shouldn't be an option. They don't make it easy and it's expensive if you are not part of the all inclusive. This is also creates confusion among the staff with certain bars serving both. It's just not great unless you are part of the all inclusive. They also have a crazy beach towel card policy that requires you to keep track of your towel or face a $25 fee, which worked out fine, but isn't easy with a group of kids. And towels were only available between 9am-5pm. I've never seen a policy like this and hope it's my last. Staff varied from great to good, most were great. The concierge Zarinda (sp?) was outstanding and super helpful. There was some confusion about transportation between the airport and resort. We were told there wasn't any, however as we were leaving and waiting for our taxi's, a shuttle bus showed up that was taking people to the airport. Not the end of the world, but the shuttle worked on tips, the cab was $30. Overall we had a great time.

    Not the nicest Divi resort

Divi Dutch Village was a nice resort with a really nice beach, two pools, and a hot tub. The rooms were pretty nice and clean, but nothing amazing to write home about. We stayed in a king efficiency which was a little tight, but I loved that the room had a sink, microwave, some dishware, silverware, dish soap, etc. That was a bonus that was unexpected. Certain features of the resort looked updated while other parts looked more dated. It appears that adjacent Divi hotels like Golf Village looked newer or more updated. The housekeeping was great, but sometimes I wish the room was redone a little earlier. While we had a great location, if I go back to Aruba, I would rather have stayed at Palm Beach where there is access to a water sports equipment for rental.

Great resort, stores closed on holidays

Our accommodation was in a condo suite so our bedroom and main bathroom was upstairs. The kitchen was fantastic: microwave, gas stove with oven, dishwasher and full refrigerator, There were dishes, glasses and pots and pans as well as a blender, toaster and coffee maker. The IGA was just two blocks away and they had a large selection of hot local dishes and cold salads as well as anything else you would need. If we didn't have the suite, there were plenty of restaurants to choose from right on the property. We had access to all of the resorts in the Divi group. The living room and dining room were spacious and included a large TV as well as one in the bedroom. We ate many meals in the comfort of our lanai overlooking the pool. It was large enough for the table for four and a lounger. The beach nearest the room was full of coral when we walked in the water (wear water shoes), but the beaches closer to the other resorts in the group had mostly sandy bottoms. We were able to dance in the water to music at the bar on shore. On the day you get there, get your beach towels before 5 when the towel hut closes. There are pros and cons to going there over the holidays: All stores and restaurants in the towns were closed on Christmas, but the resort restaurants were open. On 12-26, Boxing Day, once again all stores (except IGA) and many restaurants were closed again. Taxis charge higher fees from 12-23 to 1-3. Be sure to visit downtown Orangstaad for the magnificent architecture, food, and plenty of shopping opportunities such as at the Royal Palace Mall and Renaissance Mall. Most places are closed on Sundays! We took the bus down for about $5 for the two of us, but you could walk there. The trolley around town is nice to look at, but took it's time getting going in the morning and stopped frequently for extended periods of time. The stop at the turnaround allowed us to get some delicious gelato while others got delicious looking sandwiches at good prices. Pools were excellent!

This is our 5th trip to Aruba in 5 years thru timeshare exchange. Best accommodation. Stayed at the Divi in St Maarten in April which is equally as beautiful and similarly designed. One bedroom unit was large, modern, clean and well equipped. Excellent service from front desk, housekeeping and maintenance. Lovely balcony overlooking pool and garden. Beach was 25 ft away. BBQ and convection oven used daily for dinners . Great beach with palapas only one or two deep giving unobstructed views of the ocean. Very peaceful. Absolutely great easy beach walking to the point towards Oranjestad or in the other direction stroll the lengthier route towards Eagle Beach (our favourite). You can walk for many kilometres! Then you can fetch some Chill or Balashi beers from your fridge and enjoy the beach gravity and relax. Groceries at IGA Ling and Sons nearby were well stocked. Went to Superfoods for better wine selection, freshly baked breads, pastries and Dutch treats --- Droste chocolate, stroopwafels, kokosmakronen.
