We had previously walked past Bouganvillea when last in Barbados and had discounted it. However, we had read about the refurbishment and decided to give it a go and were not disappointed. Check in was slow and we did have to wait a while and this is probably the most negative comment about the hotel. We were shown to our room and we had paid to upgrade to a junior suite (5126). We were lucky enough to be facing out to the ocean and to be about 10 steps away from the sand. The room felt large and spacious and was very clean. There was a well equipped kitchen area with a microwave and fridge, a spacious bathroom with a large walk-in shower (and The White Company toiletries including shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion), a huge bed and small dining room table for 2, a lounge area, safe, dressing gowns and TV. Our terrace had a table and four chairs together with a single day bed. We had an interconnecting room but this was fine as the family next door were very quiet (and they even had a young baby). We slept well here. The hotel is set on a lovely beach which was great for beach walks throughout the day. There are several hotels on the beach and we actually spotted the green parrot from Barbados in the trees at Turtle Beach Hotel which is at the other end of this beach. The sea was quite choppy during our stay and so we didn't use any of the watersports. We did enjoy the beach though! Beach chairs are a little bit old and do not have mattresses on the loungers unlike around the pool area. We ate at Siam on our first night which was delicious and the service was brilliant. A starter and main course each plus a glass of wine and Coke was about $72 including a tip. We also had cocktails on the beach when we arrived and these are priced around $8. I was surprised to see them come in disposable plastic cups with plastic straws which is something the hotel needs to work on and was disappointing. We also headed towards The Gap and ate at a lovely restaurant called Irie Foods. It doesn't look that special from the front but the food is good and the staff are some of the kindest we've met. Breakfast at the hotel is well priced and is more than enough. What we liked is that you could order a package of items or order individual items if you weren't feeling that hungry. There are just 100 rooms here and so the place has a nice feel. It's very relaxing and peaceful although there is some entertainment put on in the evenings. There are two pools (one which is by Siam but it's very quiet), a spa and gym. There is also a barbecue area which you can book out and so if you fancy doing your own barbecue you can. There is an old part of the hotel which is near to where Siam is and it does look a little out of place and at odds with the refurbishment. When we asked about this the staff weren't quite sure what would happen to it in the future. The staff were helpful although in the restaurants they did seem to go above and beyond to make our experience memorable. Lance at Siam restaurant was very welcoming and Natasha on the reception desk was also very helpful. A taxi here from the airport is $16 but to get back you will pay $20. Overall this was a lovely stay and if we return back to Barbados we will certainly consider staying here. This time we stayed room only but I would consider staying at least bed and breakfast next time.

The reviews suggested that the Bouganvillea would be a great choice for our first visit to Barbados. We really wanted it to be special because we were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary during our stay. All I can say is that our expectations were exceeded in every respect! The staff at the hotel are fantastic. Everyone we came across seemed to want to do their best for you.We received 5 star service from everyone and there was a genuine warmth and friendliness in the way we were treated. Special mention should go to those staff who maintain the hotel and grounds. The cleaning staff always went the extra mile and did it with a smile. The grounds are beautifully kept and we could see the pride shown by the gardeners. Despite working so hard they always had time for a little chat and this made us feel very much at home. Our room was spacious and well equipped. There was little or no noise from adjoining rooms so you felt you had your privacy. We chose to self cater and the kitchen had everything we needed. When the toaster broke we called reception and it was replaced within 5 mins. Our one slight criticism would be that the sofa bed which our 18 year old daughter used probably needed a replacement mattress but she coped without any real problem so we didn't raise it as an issue. Our bed was excellent, as were the bathroom facilities. White Company products were topped up on a daily basis. The air con was excellent. The pool facilities were also excellent and never seemed crowded. In fact on many occasions we had the pool to ourselves. Sun loungers were also plentiful and there was never any need to get up at the crack of dawn to reserve one. Beach towels were provided and replaced whenever you wanted. To cap it all the wonderful beach was also just a few steps away. The sea was always quite lively being on the south coast but it was perfectly possible to swim comfortably.A walk up to the Dover Beach hotel and back would take 15 to 20 mins at a leisurely pace. What a beautiful walk it was. By the Dover Beach Hotel is a narrow alleyway which leads up to the road leading up to St Lawrence Gap. At the start of this road is a supermarket which sells the essentials. We were a little shocked at the prices, especially for fresh produce not grown or produced on the island. In fact anything that has to be imported tended to be more expensive than you would find at home. If you are self catering it would be well worth while taking out basics like breakfast cereals, tea, coffee, jam, snack bars, nuts. However the hotel does run a shuttle bus to a larger supermarket called Masseys on Wednesdays and Sundays free of charge. The onsite gym is modern and well equipped and there are also spa services. The evening entertainment was of a good standard but did not go on too late and cause a disturbance for those who wished to have a reasonable bed time. I have made an effort to write this review because I believe the hotel and its staff deserve the praise I have given. Next door to the hotel is a huge Sandals resort which has clearly had a lot of investment put into it. However in my opinion the Bougainvillea provides an experience that competes very favourably. Its facilities are excellent but it is the staff that really makes for a great customer experience. I really hope that we shall be regular visitors in the future and that the hotel maintains its excellent standards. Many thanks for providing us with a 25th wedding anniversary memory which we shall treasure.

Spent 3 nights here en route elsewhere. We had stayed here before on many occasions but found the hotel to have been greatly improved in the past few years. Refurbished rooms, great staff and better restaurants. The whole resort has been given a face lift. The beach is fabulous and the facilities are fine for families. Swimming pools, gym and laundry facilities on site. A small nursery for kids too opposite the main hotel .Lots of rooms on different levels. Specify if you need a disabled room on the ground floor. There are no lifts. The pool bar area hasn’t changed in years and could do with modernisation ( service always slow at peak times). The cocktails could be a bit more special too. Breakfast is good here. Lots of choice and a beautiful beach side setting overlooking the ocean. Siam ( the second restaurant) is quite nice but not special. The staff were exceptional here. Most pleasant and attentive. Great value for money at this hotel in general. Old style Bajan manners and hospitality. Can’t wait to return

Hi, I booked a four day stay for my wife's birthday....in March 2019.. All of the staff was so helpful in organizing my suprise candlelight dinner on the balcony ...especially the Guest Services Manager ...Marguerite Rowe who made the whole event possible,Events coordinator Nicole who coordinated the decorations and food....also Rachel in the gift shop that helped with the selection of the champagne...our outstanding waiter that served us very graciously... the front desk staff that are always pleasant and willing to help..was also on board with the suprise and assisted in occupying my wife while the room was being prepared... In all the staff at Bouganvillea went out of their way to make my wife's Birthday a very special event....just like our Anniversary last October...they deserve all the stars... .

We had a lovely relaxing week at Bougainvillea. The hotel lives up to its name with different coloured bougainvillea bushes throughout the grounds, which are beautifully kept by the gardening team. We stayed in a one bedroom deluxe suite on the 1st floor. It was spacious with a good size balcony, sitting room with kitchen area, bathroom and separate bedroom. It had everything you needed for a weeks stay, including toiletries and a hairdryer. There were air conditioning units and ceiling fans in both the sitting area and bedroom which were very efficient and quiet. We were on an all-inclusive package so took all of our meals in the hotel. The food in both restaurants was good quality and large portions. During our week two of the nights were buffet - one was a Caribbean buffet and the other a BBQ - all other nights were ala carte. On occasions the service in the restaurant and the bar was on 'Caribbean time' but the staff were friendly, always smiling and ready to have a chat. If you need any provisions there is a well stocked supermarket in Oistins, a 20 minute walk from the hotel. It's a pleasant walk, partly along the side of the road but quite a lot of it can be done on the beach, which is pretty much deserted. Another nice walk is the boardwalk, which is again about a 20 minute stroll each way. It starts behind the Hotel Accra. Just take the local bus from the main road. It only costs Bds$2 and will take about 15 minutes. The same bus for the same price will take you all the way to Bridgetown (30 mins). There really is no need to take taxis. The local buses are very regular, cheap and much more fun! The rest of the time we were happy just to relax on the beach which is beautiful white sand with clear water. All of the sunbeds were never occupied so I would rather a few were taken away to make it a little less cluttered but that's just my personal view. Another thing I really dislike is people reserving sunbeds with their towels before 8am and in some cases not using them all morning but that is not the fault of the hotel, just inconsiderate guests. I would definitely return to Bougainvillea and if you are looking for a low-key relaxed Caribbean getaway, this is the place for you.
