Stayed in a 1 bedroom ocean view with plunge pool in October. Family of four with 2 early teen kids. The resort is a 20 minute drive from the airport and cost, I think, $47BDS in a taxi (convert by half for USD). The room: Very impressed with the size. The 1 bedroom suite had a massive 4 poster bed in the main bedroom and large en-suite with a jacuzzi bath, shower and separate toilet. The lounge area had a fold down bed and we also had an additional single bed put in. Despite the two beds, there was still enough room to move around. Nicely fitted out kitchen which we didn't really use other than the fridge/freezer (with ice maker, water dispenser) and the washing machine. Also has an additional shower/toilet. Some of the door shutters didn't shut properly and a few fixtures were rusting but it didn't bother us and in fact added to the charm. A/c worked fine although it's not really needed with fans and the breezes. The maid was excellent - Jolene I think was her name. One annoyance was that noise of the next door neighbour's TV. The view: I don't normally pay for sea views but did on this occasion and was delighted I did. We were on 4th floor so had fantastic views over the pools and out towards the sea. Good sized balcony with a table for 4 and two sun loungers. Wonderful sun rises every morning. We also had a plunge pool which was lovely to have but we didn't use it that much. Pools and beach: Lovely. The pools are set on different levels - none of them are deeper than 4 feet (well maybe the adult one is but we didn't go there) but all are nicely set out. There's a jacuzzi pool near the Carriages restaurant which has great views. No issues getting a pool lounger although spaces with shade were not always available. Towel cards are issued and you can replace as many times as you want (if you're keen on ruining the environment). The beach is superb. The views from the hotel looking down on it are amazing and the sand itself is powder white. Sun loungers always available and there's also a towel booth on the beach. The sea is not as calm as beaches on the west coast but we found the waves good fun. As always, you should use caution when swimming anywhere but especially with waves. Folk of all ages, shapes and sizes were swimming - no problem. Restaurants - we had buffet breakfast which is at L'Azure every day apart from Sunday (when it's at D'Onofrios because they use L'Azure for the Sunday Gospel Brunch). Selection was fine for us - fruit, bacon, sausages, local dish daily of e.g. cornbeef hash, pancakes plus there's an omelette/egg station. Not a great selection of bread. Lovely location overlooking Crane beach. Staff a bit slow bringing tea/coffee but what's the rush. Had happy hour (5.30 to 6.30) drinks and pizza/other snacks at Bar 1887 which was good. Also went to D'Onofrios Italian which was also very good. And we had lunch one day at the Beach Bar and once at Carriages beside the pools which were both fine. You can check all the menu prices on the website. Only used the onsite shop once to buy Banks beers. Obviously more expensive than supermarkets but it's good to have the option. We drove to Emerald City supermarket at Six Roads, about 10 minutes drive, to stock up on drinks and snacks. Wifi very good throughout the resort apart from a couple of small blind spots at the pool. Location and transport: The location might put some folk off and I can understand that. But in my opinion you should get a car wherever you stay in Barbados to enable you to see the whole island and the many attractions. We hired a car for 4 out of our 7 days. 20 minutes to airport, 10 minutes to Bottom Bay (beautiful), 30 minutes to St Lawrence Gap, 50 minutes to Holetown. And driving lets you see the real Barbados. Within walking distance we went to Marco Polo restaurant for dinner one night and to Delon's roti bar for fish cutter/roti. We also got a local yellow bus to Oistins one night - the bus stop is a couple of minutes walk from the entrance to the Crane. Overall, I was delighted we chose the Crane. We've stayed on the west coast before but for me, the grounds, pools, friendliness of staff, size of rooms, lack of crowds, lovely beach and general serenity of the resort means it is somewhere we would love to go back to.

This hotel is slight isolated but absolutely lovely, our room in the new private residences with a private pool was beautiful. I feel we probably would have made more use of the pool if it was heated. Housekeeping were brilliant, in particular a shout out to Linda. Concierge were brilliant in particular Neshan who made our trip so memorable and my daughter became a huge fan running to him whenever she would see him. The kids club yes is small but it’s very colorful and well my daughter loved it and I was hesitant to leave her at first. She loved auntie Wendy. The reason the hotel doesn’t get five stars is because of the extent of construction noises. I understand this has to be done to keep up the standards but we couldnt escape it anywhere in the hotel except the beach. In addition the general store was ridiculously expensive and the breakfast buffet at Lazure was pretty basic and overpriced. All in all a really memorable trip and and I would go back.

Beautiful property with stunning ocean views! Off the beaten track, but the resort has all amenities. Great customer service particularly from service and kitchen staff. Clean and spacious rooms with relatively modern day fixtures.

The crane is a quaint resort with a village type of atmosphere. The room itself is beautiful. The views are very picturesque and magnificent. If you are looking for a very quiet, low-key experience this is ideal for you. We had the room with the 28ft private pool. Pretty cool concept except it is not heated and there is no sun on the pool after approximately 11am so it is quite "refreshing" (let's be honest, it's freezing even with such warm temps especially with the sun going down around 5:30pm). The A/C in our main living area was broken upon arrival. Although we were comped free breakfast daily, it doesn't appear as though the issue will be addressed anytime soon. The bed was very hard and the pillows were limp which made it very difficult to sleep. This resort is not ideal for anyone with children as the Kid's Club is nothing more than a room with a few things for very young children (drawing/coloring) and does not have the normal Hilton activities (i.e. pool table, crafts, planned fun activities). There are also not a lot of food options for younger children under the age of 13 with a more reserved palate. The staff at times made it seem as though you were a burden or they had to force their pleasantries.Unfortunately, we got this sense from a lot of the local people which is quite different from other islands we've visited. This does not hold true for all of the staff as our room attendant was fantastic! The food in the general store is VERY expensive and not well stocked (i.e. $10.50 US for a bag of Tortilla chips). Majority of our food orders from the restaurants were wrong (sauce when none was requested, penne pasta instead of spaghetti, fries instead of a potato), missing items (no tomato on a BLT sandwich, restaurant ran out of bacon one day and french fries another) or at times forgotten to be submitted altogether resulting in a long wait and still the wrong order (Hawaiian pizza instead of pepperoni). The concierge and front desk staff were great and helpful with booking our excursions (much needed to keep your children entertained) and correcting an issue during check-out (charged for a second dinner bill not associated with our room). I don't normally post reviews but felt others considering this resort should understand fully what to expect especially if you have children. We have been HGVC owners for over 12 years and we do not plan to return to this resort or island for that matter

What a dreadful experience . First room was falling to bits. Scruffy and in need of TLC. Second room had been renovated , apparently. It was better but had a pretty major issue- swarming with mosquitos. Even after I asked for it be be treated we got bitten to death. The whole resort was ‘buzzing’ . It was the last 2 nights of a fortnight in Barbados . Stayed on the east coast for the rest and was not bitten even once. Other than that it’s old and tired resort with rubbish bar (worst ‘free’ cocktail you can imagine) , uninspiring food in restaurants (avoid Zen in particular) and half of it is a building site. They should knock it all down. Positives ? Beach is a lovely but sea so rough you can’t really swim in it. Two people injured in my 90 minutes there kind of ruined it. You can do so much better in Barbados. Try.
