Got home Friday after being there for 7 nights of Ontario spring break and wanted to write a review. We were a bit (okay a lot) worried as the trip got closer as the comments we were seeing were quite negative. We have been down south twice (Jamaica and Mexico), done the Disney thing and cruised twice so we know our expectations were hard to meet. Simply put....we would go back in a heart beat! We traveled with our 2 daughters (4 and 8). Transfer from the hotel was easy...2 beers (just over 30 minutes). We arrived on resort just before noon got checked in and had to wait an hour for our room. Went and had some lunch at the snack bar and then got our room. Found a bed by the pool and swam all day! Resort is clean and the views are stunning!!! Our chambermaid took good care of us and our bar was always stocked (if we wanted room towels or extra water, we would simply just ask and never had a problem). The food was better than we had expected...even my pickiest of eaters was happy with something at each meal (even if it was pasta at every dinner except the italian night when she finally found pizza lol). The beach was FANTASTIC (wavy most days but if you research the area you know that and lots of water toys to take out), kids' club AMAZING (great staff, friendly with the kids, took them for lunch, knew them by name, we can't say enough good about them all) the staff is beyond FRIENDLY. When it was rainy for an hour or two the entertainment staff would have games and dancing in the main lobby. You could not ask for a more attentive and hardworking group of people. The VIEWS...this resort is STUNNING. From almost any spot outside you can see the ocean. Even the kids splash pad and playground look out over the ocean...prime spot and nice to be devoted to families. As a parent, at other resorts, the view in such areas is terrible, taking away our desire to spend time there...here we had no problem and it was fairly quiet and our kids enjoyed the small waterslides, trampoline and park. To address some concerns we had going down from other reviews... Yes the papalas can get "reserved" early by those who want to save a spot. Honestly though, we always found a spot whether it be at the beach or pool when we happened to get there (usually 9 or 10 in the morning and after lunch). This, I can't blame the resort for as it's guest mentality. Bugs...we sprayed our legs before going to the beach each time but never reapplied. My 4 year old got 1 bite and I have 2 (none being where we sprayed). Towels...we took beach towels down with us. We did get towels from the pool as well and had no problem doing so. We didn't try to exchange more than 1 or 2 times, did so right at 9:30 and never had a problem. Food...as I said...I expected worse from what I had heard about Cuba. I was actually quite happy with each meal. Yes, the buffet is TERRIBLY laid out but without closing the resort I see that hard to fix at this point. Pack some manners and you should be okay ("Excuse me" goes a long way....I only had an issue with one lady...again not the resorts fault for her ignorance). We did get 2 a la cartes, it was spring break, we wanted early times, and in the end I found having a reservation more of a pain once the time changed and the kids wanted to swim later and get to mini disco. We did italian and international. Both were great...the only thing I would recommend is a visible kids' menu (or a kids menu at all...not sure if one existed...my own fault for not asking). Bar speed - is it slow...I guess...I'm on vacation and busy talking and meeting people to worry about how fast my drink comes. Bring a big cup to minimize your bar trips and you will be fine. We honestly had the best time and even talked about going back (those who know us are shocked as we don't like to go anywhere twice...so now I need to find another comparable resort). Hope this helps ease some nerves as I know it's hard to see all the negative when you're getting ready to head on vacation!!!

My family (7 adults & 4 children) stayed at this hotel during March break. The hotel itself is quite new and beautiful. Large lobby, lovely accommodations, infinity pool and swimming pool facing the ocean, nice beach, ocean views from some of the buildings and 2 (Italian & Indian) of the 4 à la carte restaurants were good. The staff were very nice too but there are always exceptions. Jose, Yantza & Lindi were very good entertainers. Victor at the beach bar was excellent too always smiling and so fast. There were many others that were particularly helpful such as the staff at the hotel courtesy desk who were outstanding, diplomatic and accommodating. I did take the time to let the assistant manager on duty and the Sun Wing rep know of the food issues and restaurant encounters that were very disappointing. Particularly our last evening dinner where we gathered for my 65th birthday celebration which was a disaster. But our main disappointment was with the food preparation. We are all aware that the Cuban cuisine can be a challenge but this was beyond the norm. We travelled to Cuba since 2001. Our disappointments were with the food choices and preparation for the buffet where most people go for breakfast and lunch. Many of the foods were tasteless and odd. Marachino cherries on cucumbers or bowls of them (red & green) as a fruit choice. Hard parmesan cheese slices instead of grated for pastas! Watery and tasteless soups. Hard little buns. Barely no loaves. Mixed shell fish and fish in many of the main dishes with trays of beans, noodles and rice. My eldest daughter and grand daughter could eat many of the foods at lunch & dinner due to their allergies. There were so many risks. Cross contamination of food particularly at the BBQ where the same tongs are used to handle raw meats (chicken, porc, beef) and then the cooked meats served to clients with the same tongs. Ex. Sun Wing BBQ It is VERY regrettable that the hotel will NOT have returning customers such as our family because everyone we spoke to were quite disappointed with the food choices.

We spent a week at the Grand Muthu, March 6-13. We had a great time. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. Our room was great, very clean, thanks to Jennifer. The food is good and there is lots of options. You need to reserve when you arrive your restaurants «à la carte» because they fill up pretty fast. Cocktails are great. The pools are really busy during the day, so we went to the beach which is beautiful. Lots of shade and chairs. The water is warm and very clean. The first day they had no beach towels, so it is not a bad idea to bring your own. I would highly recommend this place.

We are not picky people by any means, nor are we the kind that feel the need to review but if we can save one family from going to Grand Muthu, we will be happy. We spent five star money and we received one star food and service. To say that we starved is an understatement. The buffet was so badly organized and small, the pool snack bar was so disgusting and slow and the staff never smiled. To wait 45 minutes for cold French fries is ridiculous. We knew that the food in Cuba was not going to be fantastic, but this was truly substandard. We spoke to fellow travelers during our trip staying in other hotels that did not have the same experience as us so it was clearly the management at the Grand Muthu. Very unfortunate. Oh, and bring your own toilet paper.

We stayed at the Grand Muthu from March 8-15. It is a very nice property, grounds are well kept. The beach is beautiful, you may walk for hours on the long stretch. The property was very busy given that it was March break. There was always competition for beach and pool loungers. There are a la cartes which you may book, however, reservations are not always easy to get. We went to the Indian, International and Sea Food restaurant. They were good, better than the buffet. In the sea food restaurant the grilled fish option ends up being a salmon steak and it is full of bones, just an FYI. As mentioned in other reviews the set up at the buffet is a logistical nightmare. Management should look into getting a separate hot food station away from the line up for grilled foods. The long line ups for omelettes, waffles, grilled foods etc. Are worth it because it’s the best food at those stations. Keep in mind, it is Cuba so the food options and variety are limited. They run out of beach/pool towels quickly....so you may want to bring your own. The snack bar is open 24hours but they have limited offerings-ham and cheese sandwich, burger, fries, poutine, Tuna salad or chicken salad. There are no fruit or salad options or pizza available at the snack bar. The snack bar is the only area open to eat between 10-1 on the entire complex, so you can imagine the wait times. There is a beach buffet area that opens from 1-4 and they have grilled options as well. The entertainment staff seemed very eager and tried to have guests participate in the daily events. The wind was obvious throughout the trip, so bring sun block and sun lip block to prevent wind burn. All in all we had a very nice time, we travelled with a nice group of friends and we all enjoyed it.
