My sister and I has a wonderful time at Playa Paraiso from November 9th to 15th. Our departure flight was postponed one day due to Hurricane Eta which affected the area but otherwise, our flight went smoothly. Covid tested upon arrival, got our luggage and were transported by bus to our resort. Big welcome from the staff, check in went smoothly and we were in our rooms in no time. COVID 19 PROTOCAL Excellent, staff wore masks and if necessary gloves at all times. They remain at the resort for 15 continuous days and then return to the mainland for 10 days and are covid tested before returning. ROOMS very clean, sanitizer widely available, tables, chairs cleaned properly, social distancing between tables. Public bathrooms were very clean at all times. We got our covid test results the next day and wore our masks and socially distanced until then. FOOD Very surprised and happy about the variety of food in the buffets despite the small number of guests. Lots of choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Cook to order options at breakfast and lunch and dinner with fish and various meats. Carving station with huge roast turkey, fish etc. We always food good things to eat at each meal. Went to one a la carte, the Italian and the meal was very good. The ranchon by the beach also opened up during the week with a small buffet and pizzas made to order. The snack bar was good for a quick sandwich, burger and fries and also drinks. BAR SERVICE was great, especially Yunier who came around the pool all the time to offer service. Made great drinks too. BEACH/OCEAN As spectacular as always, that soft white sand and clear blue ocean are to die for. Beach service is excellent with them setting up your chairs where desired. Tons of palapas for shade. Just some stones upon entry, so if you have sensitive feet like me, wear water shoes. Once past initial entry, no problem. Even after the storm, we had great weather overall, some rain but brief or at night POOL Beautiful and huge and kids pool also. nice and shallow in spots, pool bar. Very comfortable loungers with cushion pads. . STAFF Amazing as always, could not do enough for us, great service everywhere. Special shout out to Yunier who was a bartender at the pool and also helped out at the buffet in the evening. Also need to mention Isaac, she waited on us several times at the buffet. Idalsis was great at serving up the food at the buffet as guest were not allowed to serve themselves. All staff were great, sorry that I did not note more names. Ubi (Ubisnel Saavedra), the Customer Service rep was exceptional. Any issue that you brought to him was promptly dealt with. He seemed to be everywhere on the resort constantly checking that people were satisfied. The lights in the hallway of my building were not all on the first night, I mentioned it to him, and the next night and the remaining time, the hallways were brightly lit. The hotel management needs to keep this gem of a man. ENTERTAINMENT Fun activities in the afternoons by the pool. In the evening, staff member kept the handful of children entertained participating in dancing, singing and games. GUESTS Met some really great friendly people and especially one couple who we had tons of laughs and fun with and will be keeping in touch. It was wonderful to have the freedom of not wearing a mask at all once we got our covid results. I would love to go back again in January, just waiting to see what the next couple of months brings. I love you Playa Paraiso and Cuba!!!!!!!

    1. Stay at Playa Paraiso 2. Leave your western expectations at home 3. Roll with it Inbound trip Travelled with Air Canada Vacations. Cuban government rule is only 1 carry on allowed (ladies...a hand bag counts as carry on). On arrival, bags are disinfected, and all passengers are given a mouth and nose swab. Results provided at the hotel in approx 48 hours. We all tested negative so free to go maskless for the visit. Staff were all masked for their safety and tested regularly before their shifts. Reception: Warm welcome from all staff and check-in effortless. There were only 12 guests as the hotel is slowly ramping up for the busier season. This allowed for more personal attention and service. Room Rooms are a bit dated and showing signs of its age. Clean and comfortable. Grounds Lush and colourful. Lots of greenery and well maintained. Huge pool with adequate seating separated with a shallow section for children. At night, you might see crabs taking advantage of the pool??. Beach is shallow with broken shells as you enter, but calm and and a stunning mix of emerald greens and blues. Lots of covered areas spaced widely apart. Thankfully no one “reserving” spots which seems to be a common practice amongst selfish guests. Staff Are the diamonds of this resort. Warm and friendly and having to deal with a different way of doing things. They are happy to have guests after months of no work and no pay. I want to mention all names but will thank The restaurant staff (sweet Yane and Leizy); the beach bartender Filipe who remembered my drink of choice everyday and the entertainment staff, Mia and Queen as well as the boys. The manager made herself available and was often seen interacting with guests. She runs a tight ship. The ambiance The hotel put a great effort into making each evening interesting and fun. Themed dinners, one on the beach with local Cuban food, and others in the Italian and Portuguese restaurants. High energy shows at night and very interactive. There was a quiz night so brush up on your local knowledge, and a fun contest ( don’t want to spoil the surprise). The not so good. Lots of mosquitoes and “no see ems “. Recommend lots of bug spray and anti histamines if you have sensitivities. It’s unavoidable and the only major complaint. The food..while the presentations were lovely, I found much of the food too salty and overcooked. Selections were often limited. Excellent cerviche, lamb and the Cuban soup. Overall,a wonderful vacation and our fellow guests added to the positive ambiance. Side note...the Cuban people rely on tourism and the COVID shut down has been especially difficult. They appreciate tips (no coins)...and you can still change CAD to CUCs for tips. The govt is phasing out the two currencies so for now credit and debit cards are being widely accepted. You can leave something at the end of your trip on your card for distribution. Common products are welcomed including shampoo, deodorant (men and women) toothpaste and toothbrushes. Children’s clothing and toys are appreciated. My one recommendation is to add some ceiling fans in common areas to help with the mosquitoes and keep the air flowing on especially humid days. We are grateful to the staff at Playa Paraiso for making our holiday enjoyable and relaxing. Now back to the cold and snow.
