Caribbean Paradise!

Snorkelcats (Los Angeles, California) on Apr 14, 2024

Checked out of this resort last week and this resort is PARADISE!!! Alfonso, was great and so was the entire staff! ** 10mins from Cozumel International airport. We did the Level package and the entire staff, from concierge to reservations and lobby staff were all very helpful and friendly. Need scooters to rent or tours, let guest services know, they'll take care of it. We rode scooters to town to shop and it’s less than 15mins. ** Level rooms are higher up in floor and the rooms were absolutely clean and comfortable! Beautiful! Complimentary water bottles everyday. No issues with anything with their rooms. Bar fridge will be stocked everyday upon request and the breakfast at the Fish House for Level guests was superb! ** Beachfront is a delightful stretch of turquoise Caribbean, warm waters! Not too many fishes… BUT if you walk 5mins to the beach next door at Cozumelaño, the beach is open for all - they have lots and lots of colorful fishes which is a snorkeling delight! ** 4 restaurants in this resort, a swim up pool bar for adults only and food service at the beach area and ALL RESTAURANT STAFF WERE AWESOME!!! I can't wait to come back to this resort. It was wonderful staying here!!

3rd Stay, things have changed.

traveldiva1985 (Espanola, Canada) on Apr 13, 2024

We have previously stayed at this property 2x pre-covid in 2017 & 18 and really loved it. Since recently returning, things have changed some good, some not so good. I'll start with the not so good to end on a high note: The golf course. This was a big draw previously, since it's closed down the resort has definitely become more family-focused, which is fine I just wish the only adult-only area was actually adult-only. multiple days there were children and teens in that pool and rarely did I see them being told to leave. I had a terrible experience with an employee in the Level lounge (not one of the concierge's, I wish I would have got his name). Extremely condescending when trying to make dinner reservations. We were pressured on our first night to book Mole since there was no other availability (also he couldn't book past Thursday? We arrived on a Sunday). Unfortunately, after a stressful travel day, we missed our reservation and tried to book more the next day since we also extended our stay. I got the "ok" via whatsapp from Santiago our concierge and I went in to get the confirmation slip then proceeded to get chewed out by this other individual for missing our first reservation. It was embarrassing and I said I would never go back in that lounge after that. I want to stress Alfonso and Santiago were awesome to deal with. My biggest issue that we noticed was a change from previous stays was an intimidating presence by management. They seemed to be looming around all the front line workers constantly to the point it made us uncomfortable and feel terrible for them. Sometimes they were short-staffed and our waiters always remained professional but you could tell they were stressed. Meanwhile there was always a manger looming never offering to jump in and help. After observing this for a few days, the icing on the cake was 3 of them sitting down in the busy snack bar for lunch being served. Optics were not good, and a lot of employees seemed to be on defense mode, I can understand why. I'm not a negative person, I'm hoping these comments are viewed as constructive feedback. Finally the good, and these all made up for the previous mentioned issues. Jorge and Adrian made most of our dining experiences phenomenal, they should be recognized. Generally, we loved all the food. The fish house being our favorite for breakfast and dinner. Mole snack bar was a great place to relax mid-afternoon, with good food. The beach snacks for level were also great as was the evening Mediterranean. We did not care for Mole, which was a previous favorite. The enchiladas were pretty dry and steak was very tough. The buffet was decent with plenty of selection, I'm just not a big buffet person. Jesus in the lobby bar was also a standout, he was awesome and also deserves recognition. The beach was beautiful 8 out of the 9 days because of wind which can't be controlled. The sand is like powder and one of the best on the island. Evening entertainment was great. We loved how laid-back and small this resort is. We'd definitely come back, I just hope my comments help to make this place closer to what it used to be.

We loved our time at the Mélia Cozumel!

Liz R on Apr 12, 2024

We spent a wonderful and relaxing 5-day vacation at the Mélia Cozumel with our family. Between our kids (tween/teens) and the adults (including one retiree), there was something for everyone! Our favorite things were snorkeling, swimming, participating in the resort activities, eating, and relaxing on the Bali beds/cabanas/hammocks. The staff were all so friendly, welcoming, and loved to joke with us. Abril, Oswaldo, Julio, and David stood out as favorite staff members in the activities department. Our favorite restaurant experience was the Fish House. We enjoyed the buffet as well since there were so many great options and the staff was very attentive. Our room (Level Junior Suite) was perfect for our family of 6 and the housekeeping staff kept our room fresh with new towels, drinks, and snacks. If you walk south on the beach (be sure to wear shoes because of all the small shells and rocks), you will come across “El Jacuzzi”. Bring your snorkel to enjoy this calm pool that makes you feel like you are inside of an aquarium. Some of our party snorkeled back to the Mélia from there along the rocks and said it was an amazing experience. We are sad to leave and will be sure to return if we get the chance.

Great resort. A Gem

GoPlaces47186996527 on Apr 11, 2024

Overall an excellent hotel. The Level grand premium room was spacious with great balcony fully stocked bar, and very clean. Our assigned concierge Hector was very good and attentive. The staff al all levels were friendly, courteous, and very helpful The buffet choices were very good, at times the restaurant was very busy with limited seating, however all it takes is to make some adjustment to your dinning hours to avoid the busy time. The beech is a gem. Long clean white sand, with a lot of seating available. My highest regards to the management for running and keeping this property this way, I am sure it’s no easy task. Some areas of improvement to put this property above and over Better maintenance of elevators as only 1 elevator of the two available were running during our stay thus long wait at elevator. Towels in the room are becoming very thin For vegetarians the buffet main courses do not provide a lot of choices although the salad area is well stocked. If you like seafood there is a great seafood restaurant 500 meters( at most 10 min walk)away from here . Suggest to try sea food there once. I will return to this property for sure.

First But Not Last Visit To Melia Cozumel!

Kim M (NJ) on Apr 11, 2024

We just got home from four wonderful days at the Melia Cozumel. It was our third visit to Cozumel and definitely won't be our last at the Melia. Having traveled all over Mexico, the Caribbean and Hawaii, I have to say that the Melia Cozumel offers everything you would want out of a relaxing beach vacation. We always avoid all-inclusives but after reading such good reviews, we decided to give it a try. From the moment we arrived the staff made us feel so welcome and went to great efforts to help us celebrate our anniversary. We went for The Level upgrade and felt it was worth it. The room was beautiful with a stunning 6th floor view of the ocean, luxurious bathroom, seating area and mini bar/fridge. They left us a nice bottle of wine to celebrate and decorated our room with balloons and a banner. The beach is amazing with tons of loungers and some beds you can reserve. We walked down to The Westin and think that the Melia has the best beach on Cozumel. The first day there was seaweed, but after that it was crystal clear and lovely. For good snorkeling you can walk a short distance and enter the water from the Cozumeleno next door where there are fish everywhere! We only visited the adult pool, which had a swim up bar. The pool was beautiful, inviting and clean. The friendly and efficient bartenders were fantastic and the drink service on the beach was exceptional. The restaurants were good. Breakfast offered a huge variety of choices. And again, the service was great. Our favorite was the Mole, which we visited for lunch and dinner. I can't say enough good things about the staff at this hotel. Every single person we encountered was attentive, efficient, pleasant and so darn hard working. We will definitely be back next year.
