Arrived 8th August around 5.30pm to be told our room wasn’t ready! Finally got in the room which was close to the pool and buffet restaurant, room was dated but immaculately clean. Overall we enjoyed our holiday but this was due to the amazingly beautiful beach and the hotel staff (especially Eddie at the pool bar) Food- we struggled with the variety (sprouts for breakfast, lunch & also in the paella for dinner) my daughter is a fussy eater and lived off chips and pizza in the snack bar for 2 weeks. Me & my husband will eat anything but by the end of the 2 weeks was struggling to eat. Also as the restaurant is open so there is birds flying in and eating the food in the buffet. Pool - this was the first time we have ever been abroad and not had to get up early to get a sunbed! Daytime entertainment was directed at the locals. My daughter didn’t want to join in cause she couldn’t understand what was going on. Beach- absolutely amazing, quite busy in a morning but after lunch it quiets down. Water sports was great & snorkelling is a must! Beach bar where you can get drinks & there is also a toilet. Staff- everyone we encountered was friendly, helpful & go out if their way to help Restaurant- Cuban was ok, Italian & Japanese was delicious but book early to ensure you get in. Weekends - I couldn’t leave this review without mentioning this. On a weekend the locals “invade” the hotel. They took over the pool & pool bar so you can’t get near. In the buffet and snack bar I witnessed on numerous occasions people ordering/getting vast amounts of food which all gets wrapped up in serviettes (I even witnessed a woman wrapping it up in a role of toilet roll) and put in a bag. Staff see this happening and don’t say anything. This really annoyed me as they would take all the chips & pizza then the hotel would run out if them but it was the only thing my daughter would eat. I enjoyed my stay as Cuba is unadulterated but the food situation would put me off visiting again.

I stayed at the playa costa Verde from the 22nd August for a week. I had read many a trip advisor report about how bad, shoddy, awful the place was. This is my honest opinion and obviously others may have different feelings. I arrived at the hotel, was checked in very quickly. My room number was 1114 and was situated by the pool (very ideal for me and my family but maybe not so ideal if you want a bit of quiet time). The room was perfectly adequate. Dressing table, fridge, iron, ironing board, hairdryer, safety box, comfortable bed). Food, there is plenty of choice, I am one of those people who doesn't eat from a buffet (I probably am a bit OCD but intend to air on the side of caution) so I always opted for the freshly cooked meat counters or rice counters for lunch, I opted for freshly cooked eggs or cereal or toast for breakfast. Evening meal I would eat at either the 24 hour snack bar (chicken is to die for) or I would again eat at a freshly cooked meat counter or use one of the speciality restaurants. All the food I had and my family had was very enjoyable, nobody got sick and we all had plenty of variety to choose from. Pool, this was very good, the pool bar was never too busy so we always got served pretty quick, the pool itself was clean and never overcrowded, and there was entertainment around the pool during the day. Beach, well, what can i say, you have to cross a bridge to get there, takes about 30 seconds to cross but whatbis view you have on the other side. The beach is amazing. I took sea shoes with me because there is a lot of coral in the water but what an abundance of fish there is to see swimming all around it. You will see sea urchins, rainbow fish, crabs and possibly the odd barracuda if you aren't too scared, really, the beach is just amazing. The nightly entertainment is more than reasonable and you can easily spend the evening watching it. I loved the little stalls in the lobby, people selling handbags, fridge magnets, pictures etc, defo a bargain to be had. Plenty of choices on the day trips too, I did cayo seita (a 2 hour catamaran trip with snorkeling and then a lovely meal actually on the island itself), this place was like heaven. If you remember the old bounty adverts then you will know what I am talking about. All in all, this is Cuba, part of its charm is to not expect high class luxury because in all honesty, you probably won't get it. If you want to see a country with plenty of history that has had so many years of struggling, to see a place that has to self survive, to meet the friendliest of people, to not worry if sometimes the hotel may run out of ice cream, then this is the place for you. This was my second time in Cuba and it certainly won't be my last, thankyou to all at the playa costa verde for making mine and my childrens holiday a memorable one

Wow, That is how we can sum up our time at Playa Costa Verda in Cuba, The first time we have visited Cuba and wow the people and country is absolutely beautiful and just amazing! Our first impressions were a bit ropy as the Reception staff didn't seem to understand much English (but i don't know Spanish either!) so i wasn't overly bothered that communication was a minimum of just telling us what room we were in. Got to our room Lovely and cool on arrival, Clean and a lovely view of palm trees! The food was Lovely and the Cuban and Chinese restaurant are a definite. The welcome next day by our rep was good, We loved the main buffet restaurant all staff very attentive and polite and food was amazing!! We often spent afternoon when was too hot for us in the main bar again very helpful, polite and friendly staff I loved the Pino colada!!!!. Because we were on our Honeymoon we got a bottle of rum and drinks on the beech which was a lovely touch made us feel very special. We went on a few excursions again reps were awesome catamaran and island we visited was just a piece of Caribbean heaven! and the trip on a 4x4 into "proper" Cuba was an eye opener but just amazing! I cannot rate this hotel and all its hard working staff enough, We loved the country and place so much we have saved so hard and are heading back this christmas!!! unfortunately for us its only a week this time. Looking forward to making this our regular holiday destination can't wait for Christmas 2019!!!

From start to finish this hotel let us down on everything, apart from the weather, which thankfully they had no control over! Arrived from Gatwick after a long flight and coach transfer, when we arrived at the hotel there were no soft drinks on offer and when we asked at the bar and reception, we were told we had to wait for our wrist band before any drinks would be offered. Waited ages to be checked in, waited ages for help with luggage to rooms. Rooms were air conditioned but turned down really low and we couldn't alter the temperature to suit us, no toilet paper in room for 2 days, no bottled water for 2 days, had to collect these ourselves. Hotel room was furnished okay. The entertainment staff were a complete joke, there was no daytime entertainment, they were absolutely useless, apparently complained they do not get enough tips! well who would tip them when they do absolutely nothing to engage you with anything. Food was disgusting. I have been to Cuba 5 times previously and never have I had or experienced anything like this. Bussell sprouts for breakfast! ugh it was all awful. The pools were grotty, the back pool needed a good clean, grotty stuff in between the walled tiles, tiles missing from the bottom of the pool, literally hundreds missing. No kiddies club available when we were there for the whole 2 weeks, no masseuse available. I will never visit this hotel again and would urge others to avoid. We paid collectively 8,000 for our yearly holiday and what a disappointment it was. I am asking Thomas Cook for a refund of some kind or discounted voucher to use somewhere else as this was no way work the money we paid. As I have said we have travelled to Cuba many times and never experienced this. When I compare to Sol Rio de Luna and Mares .. there is no comparison. I could not wait to get home from this place/ 2 pool tables and one table tennis table for youngsters, in fact youngsters are not allowed to play pool until later in the evening! there is nothing for youngsters to do. Life guard sits under a tree hidden and on his mobile phone all day. Awful bridge you have to cross to get to the beach, Ran out of milk and coffee and spent 4 days with no hot water Beach beautiful!

The staff are very nice after 6th time to go at Playa Costa Verde. The food is fine and the Restaurants a la carte are great specially the Japanese with Leo as a cook. At the beach they just built a restroom and a new bar, that's fantastic.
