We celebrated my 40th bday at this resort in the junior suite with private pool from 9/22 to 9/29/19. As we arrived at the front we were greeted with cool towels and rum punch!! Conroy was THE BEST BELLMAN ever. He showed us around the resort and told us the ins and outs of the city. The front desk staff (Tameika, Deann and Macy) were wonderful and did a great job working with my husband to surprise me on my birthday! The staff is overly friendly and appear happy to come to work. Everyone always ask about your stay and if you need anything. The bartenders are quick and friendly. It was great talking with Sashell at the bar. The dinner wait staff were always professional. When you go to the hibachi in Spice, ask for Franklin (aka Bernie Mack) and Stacy. They are a lot of fun! When you go to Chez Isabell as for Conrad and Nakesha. They made our night special and gave great dinner and dessert recommendations!! The cinnamon crème brule was fantastic. There is a great energy among the entertainment crew! Nick is very humorous and did a fantastic job at getting the crowd to join in the fun. Kash, Daniella, and Jovon were super fun to watch as they helped with all the games and activities. My husband even had a dance-off with Jovon at the Michael Jackson trivia game. Hilarious to say in the least!! They offer a variety of activities in the day including trivia, water ballet shows, blackjack, battle of the sexes and many other fun things which sometime result in winning a bottle of Appleton Jamaican rum! It was great because if you wanted something to do you could join. But if not, you could just chill in your pool or on the beach. Since we were there during their down season they were only at about 60% capacity which was really nice. There were always pool loungers or beach beds available if you wanted one. The nights always started with live music at 8pm, a live performance at 930p, and then a night activity hosted at the Sports Bar around 10. You must go to the Silent Disco Party! It was so much fun! We thought the best live performance was the Jamaican folklore. My husband also enjoyed the Michael Jackson tribute. The rest of the shows were “something to do”. You can tell the dancers put in lots of hard work but…….. You MUST go the spa. It is absolutely wonderful and worth every penny. And every massage includes a 1 hour Hydrotherapy session. And they give you a different coupon every day for specific services at the spa. The ladies of Mile’ did an awesome job ensuring we had one of the best spa experiences. Thanks to Melanie, Jaffae, Dena-Rose, Amber, Evette, Dee-Andra, and Latoya!!! Housekeeping did a fantastic job ensuring our room was tidy and stocked with clean towels twice a day. Zodia did a FANTASTIC job decorating my room for my birthday. I was so surprised!!! Never expected it. I’m so glad we got to know her while we were there. Overall there was only one negative to our visit and that was dinner on the beach. We were told to arrive at 6. However, by 7 we still had only had bread. They turn on a long string of lights which are pretty but attract what seemed like every bug on the island. They were crawling all over the table, in our drinks, and over all the table ware. They finally turned off some of the bulbs and that helped. We were under the impression that we would have our own butler. That wasn’t the case. We shared a waiter with 2 other tables. And there would be no one around for long periods of time. Despite my husband’s attempt to ensure everything was as perfect as possible, each course had an issue. The appetizer was incorrect and they served my husband tuna even though they had been informed he has a fish allergy. His entree was missing the shrimp. And the dessert was totally wrong. He requested apple tarte but got lemon souffle followed by a chocolate birthday cake even though they were told I don’t like chocolate. The idea of the dinner is great. However, despite the attempts to rectify the issues the overall execution was poor. And an almost 3 hour dinner is entirely too long! Things to know / consider: 1. Outside of the free drinks you can get at the bars, there are 3 large bottles of rum and vodka stocked in your room. 2. The mini bar includes brand name snacks: Lays, Snickers, Oreos, M&Ms, Minute Maid 3. Very spacious closet. Space to set up 2 large suitcases. Also includes a safe inside. 4. They provide umbrellas for use during your stay. And some rooms also provide a beach bag. 5. There is no iron. Only a steamer but it works pretty well. You just won’t be able to crease anything. 6. You can use your firestick on the TV. 7. The rooms have a really “open” design. So the bathroom door doesn’t actually close per se. For this reason I would highly recommend bringing air freshener. 8. We tried to tip every time we got a drink, went to dinner, or got help with luggage etc. I would recommend bringing lots of single dollar bills. Sometimes the front desk runs out of change. 9. The onsite souvenir store is extremely expensive. I believe it is ran by a 3rd party and not Excellence owned. (A medium bag of Lay’s chips were $8 USD). All of the items that were in there we were able to find at the airport for a much more reasonable price. (You will need to shop around at the airport as the pricing for the same items are different at different shops.) 10. They do offer a free photo session. The photos are a bit pricey but they come out great. The packages range from $150 - $400 or you can pay $20 per digital photo. So they emailed us 3 pictures for $60. 11. If you come during their non-peak season expect a rotation of 1 or 2 of the restaurants to be closed every night. My guess is there isn’t enough capacity to sustain all the restaurants every night. 12. You are in the tropics so you will definitely see bugs. As soon as the sun begins to set, around 530-6, the crickets (or frogs we were told) will begin to LOUDLY chirp making a “bleeping” sound. We thought it was an alarm going off at first. Also, we ended up with a gazillion mosquito bites despites our attempt to wear bug spray and burn 2 citronella candles. Twice we woke up in the morning with a dead mosquito in the sheets. And one night one woke us up buzzing! And if you choose to eat outside expect some flies to join you as well. 13. They do provide filtered bottled water in your room and at the bars. 14. Make sure to get all the pool towels you want at the beginning of the day. They seem to run out often. 15. If you eat at the hibachi grill in Spice be sure not to sit directly in front of the grill. You will catch all the smoke and grease directly at you as the food is cooking. 16. With the exception of the hibachi they do not take dinner reservations, it is solely a first come first serve. Areas of improvement: 1. Offer hand sanitizer wipes and gel at entrance of restaurants especially buffet. I witnessed several people touching food with their actual hand. (Reason why I generally don't do buffets) On certain cruise ships they will not allow you into the restaurant until you have wiped your hands! 2. Ceiling fans on the outside decks and at the restaurant’s outside seating (especially Oregano and Lobster House) would help cut back on bugs hanging around. 3. Put a handle on outside patio door. If the door is completely shut it’s a bear trying to get back in the room. 5. It would be nice if there was a way to get drinks ordered directly to your room. The servers only stay at the pool and the beach. 6. Post menus outside restaurants. This would allow you to see the menus as you are considering your dinner restaurant for the night. 7. Limited night activities. It would be nice to have an alternative to the shows, especially if you are staying a while and have already seen them once already. 8. Reconsider how the refrigerators are stocked. Every time we would open the door, bottles of water would fall out all over the place. We would take them out or try to move them around but it became annoying after a while. 9. For safety reasons a handrail should be installed on the steps at the Skybar. 10. The closet light sensor is too short!!! You’ll be in the middle of getting something out your bag and it will turn off on you. This is one of the best resorts we have been too. Typically when we go to resorts we don’t intend to return as we want to try other places. However, we will most definitely come back to Excellence Oyster Bay!!

We've traveled to Jamaica many, many times. In fact, my husband and I were married there. We love Jamaica. We usually stay at the Couples resorts and have been very pleased with the resorts, the staff and accommodations. For this 10 day trip, we decided to do something different and try another resort. Boy did we regret it! We paid more for this trip than we've ever paid for our Jamaican trips, but hey they get 4.5 stars so it must be worth the $$. Not at all. All of those "club benefits" are not automatic. It seems we were constantly calling about not receiving a service that was supposed to be included. After a while, it's exhausting. Due to different issues, we moved rooms three different times during our stay - that too was a bummer! One night we had no A/C - being the property was only at a 65% full rate, the thought would have been to allow us to sleep in a cool room - nope, management brought us a fan for our 80 degree room. Crazy!!! The property is big and spread out, so we always had plenty of room whether at the pool, beach or restaurants. This property is somewhat new so the lushness hasn't come in yet but the grounds and beach are kept up immaculately. This resort completely took the Jamaican culture (which we love) out of the resort. We could have been in South Beach and not know the difference. Everything is very modern - almost a Scandinavian feel. The staff is the only Jamaican feel and they are absolutely AWESOME. They take the time to get to know you and are very eager to help you in any way necessary. The management on the other hand, is slow to respond to any issues big or small (the A/C issue). This vacation was OK, not horrible, but it certainly didn't live up to the resort name or reputation. There are several FB closed groups for these types of resorts that offer real positive and negative information. If you are looking to book this resort, I encourage you to join these groups for real information. I wished I would have listened to my gut after looking at the FB comments rather than trusting TripAdvisor. We will return to Jamaica again soon, but definitely not to this resort.

Our second visit to an excellence hotel and we weren’t disappointed. Quick check in.We had a club beach house room. Lovely views out to sea. Room was well appointed with all amenities one would expect. Never a problem getting a sun bed, plenty of options were to sit from the lively main pool to the quiet club area at each end on the beach. There are plenty of quiet ares all along the beach. No matter where you sit the waiter service was very good. The beach is lovely and sea with some areas having sea grass but no problems with sea weed. All restaurants were excellent, maybe at lunch time the Oregano and Lobster house can be busy but the Kitchen table is also open for lunches. Our favourite restaurant was Magna. Usually started the evening off at the Martini bar, run by a couple of great guys that made everyone welcome. Evening entertainment was good especially the Micheal Jackson tribute. We couldn’t get a late check out in our room but we were provided with a room in the main block to shower and get ready for our 1600hr leaving time. All staff were friendly. Must applaud the hotel for their dress code and sticking to it,well done.

My husband and I visited Excellence Oyster Bay to celebrate his birthday. The room was fabulous, the service was exemplary, and we enjoyed the multitude of food/bar options on the resort. The nightly shows and performances were very entertaining and the Silent Disco was fun!
