Fantastic location, inconsistent service and aging accommodations

F4485FCevak (United States) on Apr 18, 2024

We spent one week at Couples Swept Away. There are many pros for this resort: 1. Location: on the pristine 7-mile beach, with warm, shallow turquoise water. 2. Water sports and excursions that are included with your stay (we did the glass bottom boat, catamaran, wind surfing lessons and kayaked). Great experiences here. Fantastic staff at the water sports booth. 3. Plenty of beach chairs and floaties. Never had a problem finding open ones. 4. The spa and sports complex are fantastic. We had the couples massage, took the massage lesson, swam in the pool and had a smoothie at the wellness bar. 5. The breakfast room service was timely (one day was delayed outside of our requested 6:30 to 7 AM), coffee was strong and pastries delicious. 6. The housekeeping staff was great! A few cons are: 1. Inconsistent service - the wait for service at the beach and pool bars and the Seagrapes café was lengthy. Moreover there was staff available behind the bar, seemingly ignoring the customers. We waited at Seagrapes for 20 minutes to order our food, and this was after I walked up to the counter and asked to place an order twice. The Scotch Bonnet runs out of the jerk chicken by 6 PM. Very limited menu options. 2. Reservations for the two restaurants - we stayed for 6 nights and were able to go to the Feathers twice and Lemon Grass once. It is virtually impossible to make the reservation on the app. When tried at the guest services I was told they were fully booked. When I tried to book for the rest of our stay, I was told that I can't book more than 3 days in advance. You can't make a second reservation if you have one already. You can't win and you are stuck with the mediocre buffet. The Patois Patio was better for dinner than lunch. If you are able to get into one of the restaurants, the food and service are outstanding. 3. The buffet is mediocre. Same food choices for breakfast all week long. There are an omelet and pancake/waffle stations. Wait is usually pretty long for the omelet or eggs. Pastries and fruit were good. We did not go hungry, but I was expecting more variety from a 5-star resort. 4. The main road is very close to the resort and you will hear the cars, trucks and motorcycles all day and night. We were in building 25. There was no glass in our windows (just wooden shutters). Maybe the noise is better controlled in the rooms with glass windows. You will not hear the road while enjoying the beach. 5. Solicitations on the beach are annoying. They will leave you alone, but they come back after you said no several times. 6. The building we were in (25) is in a need of major deep cleaning or renovations. Overall, we enjoyed our stay but will not be coming back. While we had a nice time, the value for the money we paid was not there (in our opinion).

Amazing vacation

reneec2006 on Apr 18, 2024

My husband and I stayed at CSA April 10-16 and had the best time. We had heard about the level 3 travel advisory and were a little worried but we NEVER once felt unsafe or unwelcome. Our room was at the end of the resort with a partial ocean view and private balcony where we had our room-service breakfast each morning. They have little hangers on the door and you place a breakfast order for the following day and the time you want it delivered. The breakfast was simple, yummy and always arrived at the designated time. In addition, typically by the time we left for the beach, staff had already come for our empty tray. The beach is STUNNING. One of the best I have ever seen. We were told that the drawback would be that it’s a public beach so there are beach vendors (people trying to sell you things). With this, we expected to be harassed all day every day by the vendors but didn’t find it to be a problem. A polite “no thank you” was typically enough. The food was honestly really good. I never have super high hopes for all inclusive food but everything we had was so good. I think my favorite was Feathers restaurant but I also loved the smoked marlin sushi at Sea Grapes for lunch. We were also very impressed by Patois and The Palms. We were not let down with the food. The service was also outstanding. This was another thing I was a little nervous about due to reviews others had written indicating that at best it’s “hit or miss” and others saying staff were just plain rude. This was not our experience at all. We barely had a wait at any restaurant or bar we went to. And we were always served with a smile and great attitude. Every single staff member made this trip amazing for us but a few that really stood out are: Toni Ann, our waitress at Feathers was an absolute doll. Francesca at Patois - we had seen her name in other reviews and she was just REMARKABLE. She was kind and happy and just a breath of fresh air. Jeyhme at lemongrass was also really wonderful. It was really noisy at the time we were there so we had some troubles communicating but he was so gracious. Shaniece (not sure if I spelled correctly) at the front desk was so pleasant and friendly. We also interacted with the pool bar staff some - Davion, Fenton and Randeisha and they were all wonderful, quick and just a lot of fun. We also really liked Stacy at one of the pool bars. But truly, all of the service was outstanding. If you’re thinking about going to CSA, do it. We had an amazing time!
