Decent smaller hotel in Midtown East

Stayed for 2 nights in this nice hotel around Tudor City in Midtown East Manhattan. Good location to explore Midtown - Broadway shows, Grand Central, UN, Empire St Bldg, Times Sq, South Central Pk are all near by. There are more Central locations but this hotel was less expensive, and the walking is easy. Hotel breakfast was terrible - crusted pancakes, sour fruit, tasteless sausage - though the waitstaff was good, for a buffet. Parking was pricey ($75/d) since we drove up, but still much less than the train. Hotel is a historic site. It is only 3 rooms wide. Rooms look (and smell) newly redone. Nice view onto 42nd street and the original windows can open partly. The rooms are moderate size with a larger bathroom than you would expect.

I stayed at the Westgate Hotel with my husband and two children for a week. It was central, clean and the beds were very comfortable. The service for breakfast was great also. The most outstanding person however was Sophique (sorry if the spelling is incorrect). He literally saved the day when we forgot our passports (I know I know) and was at the airport for our flights. He got them safely to us there with minutes to spare and kept us updated along the way. He was professional, friendly and very, very helpful. I would totally stay at the Westgate again purely because of him. He is amazing, knowledgeable and friendly. Thank you.

Very conveniently located in 42nd street. Great hotel with friendly staff and everything we needed. Breakfast choice good and room comfy and well stocked. Access to wifi confusing as room said pay but it was in fact free. Would recommend to anyone.

3 days in an average hotel

Friends came over on the Queen Mary and this hotel was included in their journey so we elected to stay here also. It is an old historic building with lots of character. The beds were comfortable, super quiet rooms and plenty of hot water. Supposedly the hotel started a renovation in Oct 2018 but no signs of it were seen anywhere. Some of the staff were friendly and helpful (bellmen) while others were distant and unfriendly. There is a bar/breakfast room/coffee shop in the lobby that has very, very limited hours. Basically it is open for breakfast and evening drinks only. All three days the lobby and attached sitting area were full of people waiting on their rooms to be prepared and shop was closed. They could have bought drinks and coffees has the hotel thought to add one staff during the day to keep the shop open. Bizarre. Finally, we paid extra for a corner “suite” with a balcony. The balcony view was nice and good for two people. This was a treat compared to any big-box standard hotel up the street. Overall, it was an ok stay at an ok hotel. It could be spectacular hotel with some slight improvements especially in the attitude of the staff, provision of drinks/snacks during the day and some dressing up of the lobby areas.

We stayed three nights at the hotel for a long weekend in NYC. The staff was great and the room was well maintained. The hotel is close to Grand Central that you can walk there yet far enough away not to hear all the street noise. I would highly recommend this hotel for a great NYC trip.
