Normally, I think of JW Marriotts as being the more intimate, elegant, and upscale version of a Marriott. Not this one. Huge, loud, and crowded. It must have originally been built in the late 70s or early 80s. The 12 story hotel is built around a large enclosed atrium with the interior rooms looking down into the vast glass and white marbled lobby, reservation counter, bar and concierge, etc. The sound from the music duo playing at the bar as well everyone talking over the tunes just reverberated and echoed up the walls. They seem to have every recreational amenity available - even boat rides on the canals connecting the main building to the expansive pool area. Service, as could be expected, given this type of resort was stretched thin. Bedrooms were basic, ours was noisy, the bathroom and amenities nice. The pluses - the golf course looked beautiful and the spa was quite nice.

Stayed 5 nights in the Villas and spent over 800 resort points at the JW. It has been about 15 years since my wife and I visited this hotel. I was shocked. Marriott has a jewel on 400 acres. Beautiful grounds that are well manicured, including the Villas. However, the decor inside the hotel was atrocious. The furniture looked like they stole it from a cheap cafe in Tijuana and brought the carpet along for the ride. It was ugly, cheap looking, frayed, and terribly uncomfortable. The food and service was pretty good, but the surroundings in the Rockwood Grill and the Blue Star Lounge were anything but inviting. The bar was certainly not a place one wanted to relax and enjoy an adult beverage.. Noisy and cheap looking. Surely Marriott can afford to hire someone with a little taste in decorating. As one other commented, this is not a JW Marriott, especially inside. And by the way, what was with the scene painted across the front windows of the hotel. It blocked the entire view in to the hotel. Thought I was stepping in to a cheap department store. It is a shame to hide the view through to the outside of the hotel upon arrival, holiday or not. Not the same Marriott it used to be.

The JW Marriott Indian Wells Resort is an excellent hotel. Clean, well maintained, great golf course, lovely lake and boat rides on the lake, great staff. The teppnyaki restaurant on site was so delicious.

I stayed for 5 days at the Marriott Dessert Springs and even with two free days booked from points and a booking deal I was shocked at how expensive it was to stay at this hotel. Sticker shock aside- it’s a wonderful and beautiful property with an amazing pool and very friendly staff and I don’t regret my stay, but I probably won’t be going back.

We throughly enjoyed the JW Marriott Desert Springs during Christmas week. The hotel was busy but handled it well. There is a great bar/lounge int he main lobby with wonderful sushi. We enjoyed the Sunday Champagne buffet at the Rockford Grill. My mimosa was always filled! Beautiful area and we really enjoyed our stay.
