My wife & I traveled to Secrets Akumal to celebrate our 25th Anniversary. Friends joined us this year and will hopefully post their own review. We chose Secrets Akumal because we spent our 22nd, 23rd, & 24th anniversaries here and could not have been more pleased. Everything about the resort, from the grounds, to the lobby, to the bars, to the pools, exudes an air of elegance & romance. The entire property is spotlessly clean. The beach is beautiful & the food is very good. There is little to criticize. And the staff can only be described as OUTSTANDING. They are second to none. I'll cover it topic by topic, on a scale of 1 -10. Grounds: 10/10 Lush & immaculate. Very well maintained. Beautiful at night with lighted pools and walkways. Never feels crowded. Lobby: 9/10 - Open air & elegant. But it can be hot. Rooms: 10/10 - Spacious, elegant & comfortable. We always book a Preferred Club room. Its an upgrade that provides private "check in" at a lounge as opposed to the lobby, closer proximity to the beach, a large hot tub both inside the room & on the balcony, access to the Spa & Preferred Club Lounge, and access to an a la carte breakfast restaurant. Pools: 10/10 - Three very large pools are on the property. Pool # 1 is closest to the ocean. It is where the activities are held during the day. This is the only pool with a bar inside. Pool # 2 is just behind Pool # 1 pool and has two bars near its edges. The third pool is tucked away in the rear of the resort and is the quietest. It's a great place to nap or float around in near privacy. We have never had an issue finding a lounge chair. The oceanfront pool seats fill up first, followed by the middle pool. Still, seats are available all hours. Ocean: 10/10 - SPECTACULAR is the only word. Shades of light blue & green/blue blend to create a post card perfect setting. The water is warm & calm, & filled with sea life. Borrow the free snorkel equipment & venture out a little and see the sea turtles, sting rays, & colorful fish just off shore. There is an abundance of beach chairs. More lush beach beds can be rented that have private concierge service. And there was no seaweed this year. Alcohol: 10/10 - Selection improved since last year. My drink of choice is 1800 Anejo Tequila on the rocks. Last year, it wasn't stocked at every bar. This year it was. THANK YOU SECRETS AKUMAL!!! Having this everywhere means a lot. Other top shelf brands like Ciroc, Bellvedere, Gray Goose, Gentleman Jack, Bombay Sapphire, Johnnie Walker Black, Herradura, Don Julio etc are easily available. Good selection of beer too. Food: 9/10 - This is the most subjective category. I've worked in the restaurant business all my life, so I consider myself a pretty informed & fair critic. The food here is very good. Like any resort or any restaurant, some dishes are better than others. On a scale of 1 to 10, the food ranges from a 7.5 to a full 10, depending upon restaurant & one's personal taste. Speaking as a restaurant professional, in my humble opinion, those people on Trip Advisor who are harshly critical of the food at Secrets Akumal are simply very difficult people to please. There really is no other explanation. The food is very good. There are buffets and 6 sit down restaurants for dinner. We ate breakfast daily at the Market Cafe buffet. Selection is excellent. The quality is VERY GOOD. Try the crepes. You won't be sorry. Delicious. The bacon is well cooked & crisp. The made to order omelets are excellent too. Look for Edgar. Great service. We had lunch mostly at the Seaside Grill, but once at the Market Cafe, & once on the beach. The Seaside Grill for lunch has a much smaller menu than last year. I was disappointed to see this, but quickly realized that it really didn't matter much, as everything we ordered each day was delicious, with the cheese fingers (not what you expect), the chicken fajitas, & the chicken nachos being our favorite. Josue & Jose took great care of us each day. For dinner, we had the outdoor Italian buffet & grill one night. Chicken Carbonara was outstanding, as was the sliced NY Strip. The steak was spoon tender & served with a delicious gravy. The Lasagna was impressive too. The dessert table was incredible, with Little Italy quality Tiramisu. We also ate at Oceana, Portofino, Bordeaux, & El Mercado. Each of these sit down restaurants provide an elegant & romantic setting, excellent service, & excellent presentation. There was one issue, and it was minor. The food at Oceana was all served luke warm. Nothing was really as hot as it should have been. That was the only criticism I could offer in the meals. It took us 4 years to get to the Mexican Restaurant & we were glad we tried it. They food was very, very good. I had a very tender flank steak. We had a very nice meal at the French restaurant too, with outstanding French Onion Soup, and Filet Mignon, but the Italian remains our favorite. Vey good lasagna, pasta bolognese, shrimp risotto, & tomato/mozzarella salads in a very romantic atmosphere. Pretty good house Merlot as well. David took care of us at Bordeaux & Luis provided equally great service at Portofino. Room Service: We ordered room service once. Shrimp cocktails, chips & guacamole, and flank steaks. It arrived in 35 minutes and the food was freshly prepared. The gravy for the steak was superb. Preferred Club: I described the benefits in my opening. Is it an absolute must? No. This place is outstanding no matter the room you choose. But if you like a nice, quiet lounge, with hot & cold snacks like sushi & and finger foods, you may find it worth the nominal extra charge. Entertainment: The entire entertainment staff is tireless and make the resort fun for those who want to engage. If you want activities, these people will keep you busy. If you want quiet, that's easy to find as well. Night time shows vary in quality. All are good. Some, netter than others. The Rock Show was good, but not as good as last year. There was a different lead singer. Il Divo was a great show. There were a few solo singers that we quite good as well and the Elements Show was really good. Service: Beyond 10/10 - Over the top OUTSTANDING!!! From check in to check out, the staff here is a beyond a 10. Everyone is great. There were no exceptions. Service is top notch. I apologize if this seems like a ramble. This was our fourth consecutive year at this resort. Many of the staff knew it. We were recognized everywhere we went. Seeing familiar faces from previous years and being hugged and welcomed back by so many staff, Jaime at the Market Cafe, Abraham the pool waiter, David the Beach Concierge & Zobe the Concierge Supervisor made us feel so at home. Jose in the Seaside Grill came over and said hello the moment he saw us. Service at every bar was exceptional. Every drink was carefully made. Whether catching a drink at by the grill, or in the Preferred Club Lounge, Sergio, Wilber, Gilberto, & Augustin made each drink carefully. My wife said her cosmos were perfect at every bar. When quiet, the Preferred Club bartenders took the time to speak with us and make us feel at even more at home. Last, but not least, were Arely, a pool waiter, and Marceau, the Pool Concierge, who looked out for us every day. A big thanks to Marceau. We really enjoyed talking to him. A real gentleman. This review would not be complete without recognizing 3 people who went above and beyond to make our 25th Anniversary special: Zobe the Concierge Supervisor, David the Beach Concierge, and Aracely, our building Concierge. These people coordinated with one another to go far beyond expectations to make our stay memorable. On day one, we had a bottle of 1800 Anejo delivered to our room with limes, glasses, ice & salt. It was served elegantly and was such a surprise. It got finished. Sitting in a hot tub enjoying my favorite tequila was a treat. We rented a "beach bed" for 2 days, and David decorated the bed with rose petals and an anniversary card. He provided exceptional service all day long. Whether we were looking for drinks, food, a towel, or even a cool rag, David was there. Zobe even came down from the office to PERSONALLY thank us for returning and asked if there was anything more she could do to make our stay special? Talk about great service. Later than evening, when we returned from dinner & the show, we found an anniversary card from the hotel, a bottle of Chilean Merlot, and chocolate covered strawberries in our room and the entire suite covered in rose petals. Zobe, Aracely, & David coordinated all these extras. What else can be said? If you book here, you'll find a beautiful turquoise beach filled with sea life, 3 gorgeous pools with abundant lounge chairs, nestled in lush tropical landscape. You'll have good entertainment all day & night, a modern, spotless, elegant & romantic room, & very good food served in a variety of candlelit, romantic restaurants, and service from a staff that is second to none. WE'LL BE BACK. WE CAN'T THINK OF A REASON TO GO ANY WHERE ELSE.

My husband and I just returned from spending a week at Secret Akumal. What a nice resort. The service was great. The staff was so nice. We felt we taken care of. We only had one minor complaint. The lobby bar seating. Just off the lobby down the stairs is the bar area. This is where you can sit, have a drink and watch the nights entertainment. There are large porch like swings and an array of different chairs. None were comfortable at all. It might sound picky but it really made it hard to sit and watch the the nights entertainment. We will definitely have to make a return visit

Thank you so much to the beach concierge and staff, Ivan, Augusto, Felipe, America and our building concierge Talia!! Had an amazing time in Secrets Akumal! I have never experienced service so top notch as ai have at this resort. Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful, always greeting you and helping you find chairs and the pool and beach. The food was delicious; there wasn't one thing we didn't like, and their beer and liquor selection was much better than the last all-inclusive resort I visited. Highlights of the trip was the beach and snorkeling.

The complex was breathtaking. From the very clean rooms to the well manicured grounds, the entire complex exceeded our expectations. There were numerous activities or just sit by the pool or beach to relax. We enjoyed beach volleyball, beach yoga, snorkeling, and paddle boarding. All of the pools were extremely nice. The food was good ....our favorite was the breakfast and homemade brick oven pizzas. We are planning to return next year. The ride from the airport was a bit long but not bad.
