The location is excellent and if it wasn’t for the beach I would give this place 3.5 stars. From appearances, this place is very modern and rooms are luxurious. Grounds are small enough to walk but large enough to maintain privacy and have many facilities. We personally like to compare our experiences to the Four Seasons as their service has always been top notch and consistent. This resort is not at their level yet. Appearances aside, there are minor details they need to work on. Service is great when you do get it. Sanitation felt showy and was only done when it was convenient. They sat an unknown couple at our dinner table due to the lack of tables. I wish they had asked us first. Check-in sanitization was thorough but check out was non-existent. The room is missing certain amenities that you would expect from a 5 star resort such as tea bags and house slippers. No turn down service was provided and our remote was broken. Bathroom mat wasn’t replaced by room service. The jacuzzi was dirty and we decided it was best not to use it. We did like that our amenities came wrapped due to the pandemic. Though mini bar was not stocked appropriately. This was minor since we were able to get water bottles from the bars without problem but it’s just the extra touch that they are missing. We wish they provided a beach bag for guests to carry our sunscreen and such. The food was okay though we did enjoy dinner at Oceana. My lunch Caesar salad that clearly states romaine lettuce came as iceberg. I know it’s an all inclusive but we felt cheated. There are multiple entertainment activities a day but we felt like they all lacked authenticity of culture. Felt like it was a mix of Tex-Mex meets Vegas. Drinks are sub-par to okay as well but don’t expect anything extraordinary. If we were looking to get drunk it was be great but we weren’t. We would have paid extra for all across great drinks, food and culture. I can see why this place has great reviews here based on outside appearances, beach and pricing but for us it misses multiple marks on attention to details.

My husband, myself and another couple visited Secrets Akumal from October 11 till October 16, 2020. As frequent travelers, this was one of our most favorite trips we have been on! The property was absolutely beautiful. Everything was very clean and well manicured. A hurricane went through the week prior and you couldn't even tell! It is very green and full. Great for photos! The beach was absolutely AMAZING! My husband snorkeled every day right off the beach. The water was very clear and calm. The sand is fine and soft as well. I brought a pool float and just waded in the water daily. It was so relaxing. Beach chairs and huts are plentiful. When the beach chairs got full, we even noticed the staff bringing out additional ones. Servers on the beach grabbed us drinks in a very timely fashion as well. The weather was amazing the entire time we were there. In the high 80s/lower 90s and no rain. Our room was in building 5 on the second floor. It was clean and sanitized daily. The hotel even gave us hand sanitizer and cleansing wipes every day. The rooms are large. There was a huge tub inside the room and one outside of the room on the balcony. The TV has a nice selection of channels to watch as well. Our concierge, David, was so nice and always greeted us when he saw us. He took care of everything we needed and asked for. He did a wonderful job of being helpful during our trip. We went on a kayak trip with two of the resort staff, Renee and Fermin (I hope that is how you spell them). They were awesome!! Lots of fun on this trip and very informative. It was about a 45 minute trip and right off of the beach. I highly recommend taking advantage of the extra things that the resort offers such as kayaking, paddle boarding, borrowing life jackets, exercise classes, etc. The food was excellent as well. We ate at most of the restaurants during our stay. The steakhouse was our favorite. Our service was excellent as well here. I wish I had wrote down the name of our server! He was very knowledgeable about the menu. I also recommend Oceana. I had the coconut shrimp and it was so tasty. Drinks were always cold and top shelf liquor was plentiful. I love patron margaritas! Had one every day we were there! The entertainment was good. A couple of the events could use a revamp but they were still entertaining. The outside shows at the pool could use a new sound system too but it was OK. The Mexican night show was fabulous. They had a mariachi band and dancers. We also loved the rock show. Great music with great dancers. Overall, my husband and I loved this resort. I would definitely recommend staying there if you are looking for an adults only relaxing vacation. It is only an hour drive south of the Cancun airport. We also hired a private shuttle and that was well worth the money we paid for it! We are already looking forward to going back in the future!

We stayed for a week in September. We've been to the RM 7 times, and this resort had the most beautiful beach we've seen. The staff was great! We were in building 4. Our building concierge Talia was great!! We also loved the pool attendants-middle pool, and activities pool. Amerika was a very friendly and quick pool waitress. David and Estevan looked after us the day we rented a bali bed on the beach, and both were fantastic. I recommend you reserve one on the first day of your stay. It wasn't easy getting one, and the front row of them were booked our entire stay. Talia was able to get us in the 2nd row, on the end one day. It was just as good as being in the front row-there was no other beds blocking the view of the beautiful ocean. The day we spent at the bali bed was one of the most relaxing days I've had in years. I highly recommend you do this. The food is good, but not great. I can think of at least 2 different resorts in Mexico that have better food. The Japanese was our favorite restaurant. Take bug spray! I didn't put it on the first day and got eaten alive! The only negative I can say is that my husband was not happy about the pants requirement for dinner. He didn't pack any, so he had to pay $90 for a pair from the gift shop that were too small. We both were disappointed with not being able to smoke on the balcony. C'mon, we're on vacation, and want to have a drink and smoke on the balcony, and be able to wear nice shorts to dinner. ;) All in all, we had a really good time at this resort, and would like to return at some point. It won't be our first choice, but definitely towards the top of the list. I also want to add that they are doing a great job during the pandemic.

Secrets akumal was the best! Some advise, try to get everything scheduled with concierge first day. You might not see them again. Also, remember bug spray and sun lotion! It was the perfect place for honeymoon, the night shows were awesome and so was the food!

As newlyweds my husband Mike and I decided to go to Secrets Akumal for our honeymoon as well as to celebrate his 40th birthday. Various family members had vacationed there in the past and spoke VERY highly of the resort. I can certainly attest my family was not wrong. We had the most amazing vacation of our lives! I’d like to share a few highlights of our experience. First the service is top of the line... impeccable in every aspect of the hotel from the food service team to the front desk, spa staff, entertainment staff and housekeeping. Our personal concierge, Talia, was by far one of the most outstanding staff members at Secerts. She went above and beyond checking in daily with us via text to see if we wanted or needed anything at all. It was great to have her at our fingertips to assist when needed. She even decorated our suite in celebration of our honeymoon and Mike’s birthday. The food service staff, restaurant managers and chefs were out of this world. By far the best food I’ve ever had while on vacation! And the drinks, all inclusive top shelf really is top shelf, nothing watered down or misrepresented here! We enjoyed personalized menus, private dinners by the pool and special deserts almost daily. The preferred amenities certainly added convenience to our trip, for example we needed a quick breakfast one morning ... it was super easy to pop in and grab a quick bite. Akumal is a special place in Mexico that has a dense sea turtle population. The hotel takes great care to protect the turtles and their nests. At certain times throughout the year they host special events where hotel guests are given the opportunity to release baby turtles into the ocean. Towards the end of our stay were offered a private snorkel lesson and tour in the protected reef located just off the beach at the resort! Rene, a very charismatic and knowledgeable fellow on the entertainment staff taught Mike and I how to snorkel in the pool and then in the ocean before taking us on a quest to find the sea turtles! Within 20 mins Rene had found us a beautiful turtle to observe from a small distance. It even came to the surface just a few feet from us! Rene’s great personality and skills certainly made a huge impact on our vacation! The beach... oh the beach... it’s so calm and beautiful! Mike and I had the opportunity to utilize a Bali bed one day... you MUST take advantage of this if you get the chance! Basically you have your own hut on the beach! It’s quite, private and serene! This experience also comes with a separate concierge person and special food and drink menus. This resort is a diamond in the rough! A little slice of paradise... all the while at affordable prices! Did I mention the biggest hurricane to hit this part of the country in 15 years came through while we were visiting Secrets Akumal? Did it ruin our honeymoon... No way, the staff took every precaution to keep us safe and comfortable! Sure we spent one night in their conference center with 300 of our fellow vacationers in the mists of a pandemic but again the staff went above and beyond to ensure everyone was accounted for, safe from both the storm and each other (by way of hand sanitizer and enforcing masks be worn at all times) and most importantly comfortable! We were given a safe dry place to sleep, dinner and entertainment as well as periodic updates about the storm. So let’s talk pandemic precautions for a second. I being a person who has Crohn’s disease am very cautious these days. The hotel is on top of their game when it comes to personal safety of the guests and their staff! Hand sanitizer it literally EVERYWHERE... your room, the restaurants, at the beach, by the pool ... everywhere! All staff members are in masks and goggles! I tried to shake the executive chef’s hand and was told sorry I’m not allowed to do that... very impressed with the compliance of their team. Overall this was by far the best vacation of our lives and just like many couples we met in our short time at the resort, we plan to become repeat visitors to this beautiful oasis! Until next time Secerts Akumal!
