This was our first time to the Viva Maya. And we quickly fell in love with this place. The staff went out of their way to take care of us. Our first room was not cooling properly so Montserrat at the front desk took the time to relocate us to another room with an even better view! This is what we loved: 1. The Management - We witnessed the General Manager (or someone really important looking) personally serving breakfast to the guests one morning. That refreshing attitude seemed to be reflected in every department, from the wait staff to the entertainers. Special attention was given to smallest of details, especially by ensuring consistent safety measures during Covid. It's evident that one of their core values is creating an excellent guest experience. 2. The Culture - The Viva Maya does such a great job creating an authentic culture. The thatched roof walkways and buildings, the native plants and animal life, the evening entertainment, the food experience, and all the little nuances that make you feel like you're in another world. 3. The Beach - The uncontested best beach we've ever experienced at any resort. The sand is soft and golden, and the water is a crystal clear emerald. Plenty of palm trees provide shade for all who want to take a break from the sun. My wife and I strolled down to the beach late one night to enjoy a starlit sky from the lounge chairs, and soon noticed a security guard keeping watch to make sure of our safety. Again, meticulous attention to detail. 4. The Specialty Restaurants, Grill, and Buffet - Don Diego, managed by Gilmar, was exceptional. Every meal we shared there was top notch. Hugo, Jose, Filipe... and so many others went the extra mile to make us feel like a part of their family. During lunch we usually ordered from the Grill next to the main pool. Their cheeseburgers, hot dogs, nachos, and chicken fingers were so good! Perfect for a meal on the beach or by the pool. 5. The Room - We ended up in room 2308; or was it 2309? Anyway, it's been a few days. This room was recently renovated with fresh fixtures, furniture, decor, and bathroom. We loved it! 6. Octavio - Early each morning he made us a piping hot cup of coffee from his espresso machine at the pool bar. He worked so hard taking care of everyone, including all the children lined up for chocolate shakes. I'm pretty sure he represents management as well. Another example of Wyndham's top-tier leadership. Thank you, Viva Maya for making last week's stay one for the record books.

The good: The beach is fantastic, gorgeous, clean and beautiful. The entertainment team was fabulous, specially Angel, super fun. Chef Ulises was wonderful and prepared a special amenity for my daughter's birthday, we were super happy. Food was fabulous in all the restaurants, and the service during dinner was excellent too. The bad: It was PACKED, took us like 2 hours to check in. Pretty sure it was more than 60% full so it did not seem COVID safe at all. The service at the pool and snack bar was not good, employees seemed to be super annoyed probably because it was so full they were understaffed. Same situation at the breakfast buffet. We were running away from people because the pool, bar and buffett, everything was packed and the use of masks between guests is not mandatory, so most people were not wearing them. There were long lines to even get a drink. On our check out day they told us we should check out early because they had more than 100 checkouts that same day. In the end the food and service of some of the employees was like a breath of fresh air but definitely not what we expected.

If you are really looking for the word all inclusive. This will be the right perfect resort for you. I stayed at 2 resort during my trip in cancun but this is most by far one of the best despite being cheap. My second resort was all inclusive and luxurious without the inclusive as you feel not inclusive, no activities. Just room service, drink and food. Reason why I keep using the word inclusive is because.... 1) there is always activities perform by the Music box. I could only remember one or 2 of the members called Mimi, Sarah/Vanessa. The group normally have event every evening during my stay between 9:30-10:30 pm which is a must see event and you will not be disappointed. On top of that, they have some aqua aerobics, dance classes, events and many more during the day to keep you busy and enjoyment in between cocktails. :) 2) The hotel staffs makes you feel right at home which was a blast. If you feeling low on some days, go to the beach or bar, there are always the staffs you can talk to , to definitely pull a smile on you face. I feel like this resort could be a niche 5 star hotel despite being a 4 star. The only downside is WiFi and phone signal not as good in certain area on the resort but if you are looking a getaway from technology and just a place to enjoy and clear your mind. This will be a place for you. There are soo many other things around the resort like archery, exercise fanatic (gym) snorkeling and more. I really really really really really really enjoy my stay and will definitely come back. Overall, I'll give the resort 4.5 ??

We stayed oct 10-17th. Had great weather. The beach is top notch. Water is beautiful and clear with a sandy bottom. You will find this up and down the beach in playacar. We had been wanting to check this resort out to see if it would be good to bring the boys and their girlfriends. There were very few people at the resort. The buffet was closed all week as there weren’t enough people to warrant it. Don Diego and Portofino were open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Order off the menu. The food got repetitive so we went to 5th ave for dinner a few nights. Snack bar was great for a quick bite at lunch. Overall food was good. We booked a superior ocean view room. The air conditioning didn’t work. After 3 days of 80 degrees in the room & multiple trips to front desk and it was unable to be fixed we moved. So much for paying for the view. Next room looked at the back of sports hut. Beds are super hard. I almost was going to blow up my pool float and sleep on it. All the staff were very nice. Service was superb when not a lot of guests but declined slightly as the number of guests increased. My only complaint is that they don’t care for the cats on the property. There is a male who needs veterinary care. 2 females and 2 kittens. All cats/kittens had sunken stomachs when we arrived. They were starving. I took it upon myself to go and feed whatever cats I could find 2-3 times a day. They were looking better by the time I left. I would just order extra at meals and take it to them. They like scrambled eggs, bacon, hot dogs, chicken fingers and cheeseburgers. There is so much food wasted. If the staff wound just gather the wasted food and feed the cats they wouldn’t be starving. Just need to make sure the coati’s don’t eat it. We have stayed at resorts where there were special feeding areas for the cats. If the resort expects the cats to live off of mice, do you really want to stay at a resort that supposedly has so many mice that it would sustain 5 cats. I think not. Come on VWM time to step it up. Your sister resort in Dominican feeds their cats. I’ll be back to see if you follow through Americans treat their animals like their kids. It bothers us when they’re not cared for

This was our first visit to Viva Wyndham Maya (VWM), and it did not disappoint! We are a family of four, with boys aged 10 and 7, so a combo of relaxation, activities, and attractions was important to satisfy all. VWM hit a home run! ALL the staff was wonderful, especially Sara (from “Animacion”), Antonio, Mauricio, and Emanuel (from “Trapeze”), Irma (from “Housekeeping”), and the restaurant staff as a whole for great meals + “off menu” options for the boys. This was the boys’ first ocean/beach experience, and it was beautiful! The ocean was wonderfully clear, with plenty of waves for the boogie boards and enough calm to enjoy the kayaks. We also had a blast floating on tubes, diving into waves, and swimming. On the beach, we had a great time building sand castles, playing volleyball (Sara) and bocce ball (Myriam), and throwing frisbees. And when rest was needed, we loved the beach loungers with palm tree canopies, as the view was beautiful and breeze was great relief when reading, playing cards, napping, etc. When at the resort, instead of beach, the main pool was great for our family to use to relax, swim, be silly, and play games. We also participated in the “aqua gym” (water aerobics) multiple days (Sara + others); it was a fun way to work off some of the drinks/food! Also, the trapeze (Antonio, Emanuel, and Mauricio) was a daily highlight for the boys, as getting to the trapeze was the most important part of the morning routine. By the final day the boys had learned four different tricks; so fun to see them challenged and smiling! The adults even got in on the trapeze action a couple afternoons; it was great, especially because we all walked away! Finally, the food selection, drinks, and evening shows were all great. The staff went above and beyond meeting our needs to ensure all had a great time. And when a little extra exercise was needed, we worked out in the resort gym and/or took runs thru the Playa neighborhood streets; it has a very welcoming, safe setup for walking, running, and biking. Plus, the whole family was able to take bikes from the resort and take a trip into the city market for an afternoon seeing the shops, enjoying gelato, and seeing more of the beach. Thank you VWM for a great resort + beach vacation; the bar has been set high for future trips!
