A fantastic stay at a beautiful hotel!

caroline6965 (Guildford, United Kingdom) on Apr 06, 2024

My daughter arranged for us to stay at the Fairmont Waterfront for 10 nights in March to celebrate Mother’s Day. The hotel was an excellent base for exploring Vancouver and the local attractions. It is perfectly located for catching the train or local buses and indeed for catching the shuttle buses to Whistler, Squamish and the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. It is also within easy walking distance of many excellent restaurants. The check in/check out processes were very quick and efficient and the reception staff were very helpful. The concierge was also very knowledgable and helped us out with a couple of queries we had about places we wanted to visit. The rooms were spacious and very clean with plenty of storage space for clothes/belongings. It was lovely when we came back to our room after a day exploring to find the platters of fresh fruit that were left every few days! The beds were incredibly comfortable-perhaps the most comfortable we’ve ever come across at a hotel! We had breakfast included as part of our hotel stay. The inclusive breakfast was excellent with a good range of both hot and cold foods on the buffet. There was also a selection of hot dishes included that you could have made to order eg avocado toast, pancakes, Eggs Benedict which were all delicious. Nothing was too much trouble for the waiting staff, both Baba and Vivienne were very friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. However, our biggest thanks and a special mention have to go to Bogdan, who greeted us on our evening arrival at the hotel. He was so welcoming and kind after our long flight from the UK. He initially took our luggage up to our city view room we had booked but then returned a short while after to ask us if we would like a free upgrade to a room with a waterfront view! The view from our new room across the water at sunrise when we woke up the following morning was spectacular! Having this room with the waterfront view did make a real difference to our overall enjoyment of the hotel and our stay in Vancouver. Bogdan was always very cheerful and helpful whenever we saw him, whether offering us a hotel umbrella when we were going out in the rain or getting us a taxi. We would highly recommend staying at the Fairmont Waterfront. We had an incredible holiday in Vancouver and were so pleased that we chose to stay at this particular hotel.

Nope

I booked this hotel as it was my birthday and my daughter had to be downtown for a sports competition. I have stayed at this property many many times in the past. Being my birthday, I ungraded to the Gold Floor - also a place I’ve stayed in the past. Upon check in, I was advised that I could not apply my Fairmont Membership to my booking, as I had booked through Booking.com. I explained that when I went online to book directly through the hotel, there were no rooms available. The gentleman at the front desk said I should have called the hotel directly. Why would I do that if it says there are no available rooms? If I want to order pasta online and it says there is no pasta available, I certainly wouldn’t call the restaurant to see if they really don’t have pasta. We then proceed to the 9th floor, which again is a floor that I have stayed on previously. I paid $1200 for 2 nights for. To say we are disappointed, is an understatement. This looks like a room from a Motel 6. It’s only has a partial harbour view and to my left looking out the window you get a less than stellar view of the Pan Pacific Hotel. The room also has a funny smell to it. When I asked the front desk to switch rooms she said I could upgrade to a suite… No. I could move to a lower floor…. No. This is not what I paid for and will most certainly be the last time we stay at a Fairmont.

Fabulous!

Can't wait to visit again! The room was wonderful, the staff exceptional, convenient location for shopping, sightseeing and dining. We really enjoyed the live music nightly and outdoor pool was added bonus and a great way to start the day.

Great location and great service!

Stayed four nights at the Fairmont Waterfront and overall it was a great experience. The location by Canada Place is excellent as it puts you within walking distance of Stanley Park and Gastown. There are also many tourist busses departing there, including the shuttle to the Capilano Suspension Bridge. Waterfront station is also nearby so you are on the Canada Line which you take you directly to YVR. The rooms were clean and spacious and ours had a sweeping view of the harbor. The bed and pillows were all very comfortable. The shower had great water pressure as well. The highlight of the stay was the staff - everyone was so warm and friendly, particularly the servers at the restaurant. Nonetheless, the hotel is kind of showing its age. This is most apparent in the lack of power outlets in the room, particularly by the bed. The lamps were also kind of wonky and would sometimes just turn on by themselves. However, it won't distract you from a great stay!

Average to below par stay

Stayed at this property several times over times - 3 nights at this last trip. Fairmont Gold Suite - Diamond Status. Echoing a lot of the reviews. Our room was showing wear and tears on walls / furniture. Lots of noise coming from the stairs leading up to The Gold Lounge. Lack of Status recognition. Unable to use courtesy shuttle over the 3 days to either attend the Canucks game or even on the Tuesday ( slower day ) to be dropped off at science world. Felt like an inconvenience. Turn down service was not what other fairmont properties would offer. We had to call every night to get the Sofa bed sorted out, not personalized at all. No kids amenities available. They added an extra 3rd sofa chair on our last day without asking us, which took most of the space away from the Parlor room. Gold Lounge is clean, with limited Rotating food options. Personalized service was not a standard as we had to constantly repeat our last name, even after seeing the same staffs over several days. We went to ARC for the Easter Brunch. We loved our server and the food was delicious. Highly recommend it. Mimosa Flight was delightful. Room service was average. Outdoor Heated Pool is great for the kids combined with small indoor hot tube. Gym is fairly well equipped and clean. All in all, the Fairmont Waterfront is lacking of wow factor and assuredly lacking of status recognition to repeat clientele. Unsure whether we will come back or not.
