Absolutely fantastic holiday!! I travelled alone for the first time and would give this hotel 5 stars! This was my second visit to the hotel and I loved it as much as the first if not more! Hope to return for a 3rd time in July. Super excited!! The staff made the experience a 100/10. What wonderful service and a super team. Thank you! Big shout out to Alfredo,Albert, Denis,Chino,Alex,Victor,Nury and Lazara. And not forgetting our very own DJ Lychey! Keep up the hard work guys. Amazing team work! See you soon. Sami.

Please don't read into the negative reviews to much !! people can moan about anything! We areally enjoyed our stay here and was pleasantly surprised - we stayed on the top floor, the first block to the right as you come out of reception - the room was huge and updated - we had no complaints what so ever. As a travel agent based in the UK I was so pleased to read how helpful the management had been when Thomas Cook went into liquidation. I'd heard so many bad things happening with hoteliers in Cuba - it just shows how professional you are. Its such a sad thing to happen and I hope that someone will eventually take over Cuba. The food was good and yes a little repetative at times but its all inclusive, so I expected it. The work had just started - to upgrade the resturant areas, but it was all fenced off and done in a simpathetic way - they need to upgrade so they made the best of it ! all the other Al a Carte resturants were open too so you can dine elsewhere (reservations are needed). The entertainment is brilliant - very professional. Large pool areas, with lots going on in the day if you want to participate. My only niggle, is the pool - could do with more cleaning - never saw anyone clean it once whilst I was there (unless it was done early in the morning before i got up) but still we did notice how dirty is was - not a dig but an action that needs doing. The beach - WOW it was truly amazing - pure white sands with blue waters - such a shame you don't have a bar down there for later in the evening it would make a lovely setting. A restaurant too, the beach would be great spot to have dinner! They only have one main lobby bar - so a few more around the resort would be great Yes there was a bit of a problem re the Wi-Fi - but your in Cuba ! and on holiday. It certainly stopped me from going on it every 5 mins. As a Country, they have not had it long and the hotels are just getting their heads round it, they are trying their best and do give you around 5 hours usage over 2 weeks when you check-in, if you need any more you pay. We did our own trip to Havana and it was absolutly worth it - a must ! Also a trip to Vinales, we got picked up in a vintage car and the tour guide even said we were in the best hotel in Varadero. All in all we loved our stay here and would come back in a few years, my reason for giving only 4 star is the pool! nothing else.

I just got back from a week at the Iberostar Selection Varadero and it was the worst hotel I’ve stayed at in Cuba. The ENTIRE hotel grounds is under construction, which wasn’t mentioned to me by our travel agent. The food was horrible! I’ve been to Cuba 6 times and this resort was by far the worst. They served the same food in the buffet day after day. I could only stomach the bread and pizza and got very ill when I had the meat. There is a cafe that has decent coffee depending on who is making it and little sandwiches that depending when you get there are fresh or stale. We went to all 3 restaurants...Japanese was just ok. The chef wasn’t very good with his chopping skills as there was rice flying all over the place. The gourmet restaurant was kind of gross. ‘Lobster risotto’ was tiny pieces of lobster with plain white rice tossed in some sort of cream sauce. Blah! The Mediterranean was also just ok. I’m not a big fan of fish tho, so I can’t really speak for it. The entertainment show was good but the mosquitoes and sand fleas are unbearable. The resort does not spray the grounds to fumigate the bugs so bring lots of repellant. My entire body is covered in itchy bites even those we doused ourselves in OFF! My husband and I went to the spa for a massage which was great. It was $100 for a couples massage and you get to use the spa facilities which were well kept. The only issue we had with this was that apparently on October 3rd Cuba has banned the use of Visa credit cards...and we ran out of money thinking we could just put it on our visa. Luckily Our mothers were there with us and had enough Canadian money to pay for us. Do not stay in block 14. We were originally out there and he air conditioner wasn’t working, neither was the tv. We were on the ground floor and the sliding door wouldn’t lock. The room was very outdated. We had requested to room next door to our parents so they could help with our baby but they were on another floor. We complained and got moved to block 10 which was must better and updated with a rain shower and everything working. It’s also closer to the main building. Anyway, like I’ve mentioned, we’ve stayed in varadero a handful of times and for the price we paid, this hotel was subpar. You’d be better off staying at the Melia las America’s or paradises chain.

I decided to back to cuba and give it another try since its safe and was travelling alone with my 4yr old. I looked at trip advisor and this resort was rated well and figured its an Ibérostar chain should be good.....if it wasn’t for the amazing staff i would have given it a 1 star rating. How this resort has a good rating on trip advisor is beyond me. Don’t get me wrong i love a nice beach but thats not the only reason i will choose a resort. And I’m not one of those that complains about a cracked tile in the bathroom or bugs. But there are minimums that i expect when i pay good money to travel and I’m also realistic about the food in cuba...i mean its cuba whether you go to a 2* or 5* its not a huge difference. Good: Very nice white sandy beach. Lots of spots to sit under the shade if you need. And the staff are absolutely amazing. Very nice and first time in cuba (been over a dozen times) that the staff isn’t trying to hustle tourists to give them stuff. I tried to stay out for the shows because they were different every night and were very good however, the mosquito situation was a nightmare for me. My whole body is literally covered in bites. They had a cute kids water park....i wouldn’t call it that but basically its a huge boat that has slides on it with water coming out of different areas. It was cute and also had an area that the kids could watch cartoons and play games. The childrens animators are great as well. Bad: When i arrived at the resort i had a stroller and two luggages that were a struggle to manage by myself and first time ever that there wasn’t any staff me greet me or help me with my bags. Had to wait over an hour in the lobby for room to be ready. Room is extremely dated and they are in need of remodelling. Its like being stuck in a time warp to back in the 80’s. There was a issue with these miniature ants all over the room and although my bags weren’t on the floor but resting on the room chair...they were all over my bags. I had to ask that they come and fumigate. Don’t know if they did but seemed better towards the end of my stay. The air conditioner unit was so bloody loud it sounded like an old car motor. I didnt sleep well at all because when it would kick in...it was loud! The food....by far the worst I’ve ever had in cuba. At least the other resorts I’ve been too they changed it up and had theme nights. This resort....the same tasteless food everyday. The resort cats would waltz into the dinning area....that alone was a turn off, bugs in the salad dressing, above the food stations were panels that had lights in them with images....stuck between those were...I’m gonna say maybe a roach or beetle...not sure but almost that it could fall onto the counter. I saw a chef refill the rice and beans hotplate by taking some that was under at the bottom behind the counter at foot level. The pool...i saw them do some basic cleaning but that pool water looked dirty. A la carte restaurants: the Japanese....was terrible. The chef was very sloppy with the food and allot he f it ended up where my plate was. It was basically different levels of salty food. The Mediterranean was actually good. I had lobster which shockingly was included snd i didn’t have to pay extra. It was delicious!!! They had another a la carte but i was a bit disappointed because it was “no kids under 12”. So obviously i couldn’t go. But once again, the staff are beyond amazing and friendly! Its not their fault the resort needs to make allot of improvements.

    First time.

Another beautiful high end hotel. Has a gorgeous beach. Smooth pretty sand with some neat shells. Ocean is relatively calm. Guest rooms well appointed and very clean. Service is top notch. Staff very eager to please. Happy, smiley and kind.
