Clean hotel and that's about it. Horrible disgusting food. No chicken, no wine all week, ran out of beer. Neutral customer service. Staff was mostly not pleasant. Mosquitoes everywhere. I've never had so many bites in the 4 times I've visited Cuba before. Broken down air conditioning that was not acknowledged until after two nights of complaining and then moved the night before leaving to another room that was guess what....full of mosquitos! Won't return and am done with Melia hotels and Cuba!

In Cuba you pay for your room on check-in. On departure day at 9am I paid room charges for the week. Returned to the lobby at 11:30 to catch our 11:40 bus to the airport. I was confronted by the desk clerk Victor stating "I owed another 998 CUC/1300CAD, it was a contract change, another 10%"!,the Manager Danier came out and all she and Victor could say was "Contract Change" and point to the invoice, could not explain anything further!? The manager insisted on payment and I had to get on the bus for the airport! I told the manager "fine I will pay it but I will pursue this to the fullest extent". I went thru all my receipts and documentation on the plane, they had charged an additional 10%. Landing at YYC I called my card company to cancel the charge but they informed me, once you enter your pin # that is your signature there is nothing they can do. I was fortunate that I had booked thru the"mothership" Melia Hotels and I would not have to deal with the Cubans direct. -why did they not charge me this on check-in -why did they not mention it on paying the room charges, it was the same person, Victor -why could they not provide an explanation when I asked -why did they wait until I was boarding the bus for the airport to confront me After 3 days of conversation with Madrid and Varadero the money was returned to my card company. The explanation given that it was a billing error, and was given some feeble platitudes from the manager Senor Martinez.

This was our first time visiting Cuba with a group of 8. The resort was very nice. Rooms were clean and thanks to Liliar who I had been in contact with prior to arrival she managed to get all of us close together and newly renovated rooms blocks 26,27,28 which is a great location to the beach and main lobby along with some of the A la cartes. She also booked our A la carte meals which was very much appreciated as we didn’t have to take time out of our vacation to do this. All staff were very friendly. The only thing that put a damper on our trip was the weather that couldn’t be controlled. I also got quite a few bites from either mosquitoes or no see ums that are still healing and we’ve been back 18 days but I was the only one in our group to have this problem despite using bug spray. I would go back to this resort again. Best place to eat was the snack bar which at times didn’t have certain items but was still very good and the Japanese a la carte was great too.

So my partner and I had booked almost 2 years prior to our visit with Thomas cook, and with there consuquenial collapse we decided to book everything individually. This meant having constant communication with Liller(social media manager) and driatne(wedding coordinator)who went above and beyond any question or query asked. Lillier was amazingly helpful with any information needed, booking a return taxi for our friends and even a video call to answer our queries. Upon arrival at the hotel with our 16 other guests my partner and I was whisked away to our upgraded room in the royal service section (as part of the FREE wedding package due to the amount of guests). Our room was excellent, although classic cuban tired, but was above and beyond our expectations! The royal service section was great, drinks were amazing and service to match. So on our first week in the hotel the food in the main section area was particukarly bad, seemed to be no organisation whatso ever and noticeably unhappy staff which led to my family and friends being pretty upset. There seemed to be a large shortage of what was on the actual menus, was told allot when we went to order that they didnt have that today, which seemed to be a common theme. 4 of our guests(2 rooms) where not happy with there rooms of which 1 couple decided to speak to the staff in which they got moved to a great room with a great view! On the lead up to our wedding we had a couple of meetings with driatne the wedding coordinator who is seriously amazing at her job, she had thought of everything and she could not have done more for us. The day of our wedding was awsome, it all went smoothly from the hotel providing me the groom with a separate room for the night before, pressing my shirt and delivering the flowers etc. The location was decorated beautifully, the reception and food after on the beach was amazing with a private bar was everything we could have asked for! The main lobby bar, understaffed and a huge glass shortage, drinks quality really varied but if you like rum your in the right place. It did spoil the main lobby area knowing you had to wait 10 plus minutes for a drink. The day after our wedding we was given a feedback from in which we wrote the above. The day after that I was told the executive chef had been removed from his post and a new chef instated in which we Immediately noticed a dramatic improvement to the buffet area. So kudos for that. Overall we had a amazing stay made great by great staff a beautiful location. So if any managers are reading this you seriously need to appreciate liller and driatne, they 100% made our stay. Once the food issues are resolved you will be much more of a contender in the world market when it comes to holiday locations! Beautiful place and wonderful people!

    Service before we got there!

I didn’t get a chance to visit a second time as I had to cancel due to Corona virus. However, in the weeks leading up to our trip, the assistance I received from Lillier, the Community Manager, was incredible. She answered all my questions via direct message promptly and thoroughly. It made me feel better knowing that there was a helpful and friendly staff member at the resort should I need any further upon arrival. I did not expect to receive such amazing service before even arriving!! Thank you Lilier!!!!
