    I expected a high standard. Disappointed. It’s a great location and the olde world charm is delightful. Found this to be overpriced and service does not match the standards expected. Had drinks here on the terrace and then breakfast another morning. I don’t think a 25 minute wait for breakfast is acceptable. Tables that were seated after us, served their meals before us. Yes, apology offered as well as the assurance “food is just being played”. Still waited an additional 10 minutes. Expected better. Under delivered.

    This was our final stop of our Canadian BC tour. We arrived after a long stressful journey, our room wasn’t ready but the receptionist offered us an upgrade to a Fairmont Gold room for Canadian $130 per room per night. We took it and were so glad we did, we had a newly renovated corner room with bay and city views, it was really classy and enormous with a Bose music system and sumptuous furnishings. The deal also included breakfast and evening canapés in a special gold members lounge, free coffee and soft drinks in said lounge and an honesty bar. The said breakfast buffet was delicious and luckily on our final evening the weather was good and we were able to sit out on the lounge balcony which overlooks the bay and is equipped with fire pits. It was a lovely experience. The hotel is enormous and obviously an iconic landmark in Victoria, we loved staying there.

    Exceptionally poor reservation system

    We had looked forward to staying at the famed Empress and made reservations for three nights. We were given a confirmation amount of $1,354.35. Later that day I discovered my Visa had been charged $1,830.59 by Hotelsone.com in Texas. Booking directly with the Empress I felt confident my reservation was solid, never expecting them to charge me in American dollars but to charge me before I used their services. Unacceptable. When I finally received a refund from Hotelsone, the shorted me $85.00 since the exchange rate change. So not only did they pull a fast one on charging me rather than using the card as a reservation confirmation, they in essence made me pay $85.00 for the experience.

    We visited Vancouver Island for one night and stayed at this hotel. It was amazing....certainly the best hotel we stayed in during our trip to Canada. Everything was perfect including the lovely purple gin and tonics....popcorn was great too! Thank you for a great stay!

    I booked an impulsive holiday via Clipper Vacations. And i upgraded the Fairmont Empress to Gold Level. On arrival, i was directed to the F. Gold Lounge for check in. I discovered that i couldn't get Fairmont miles for booking via a 3P and i was super disappointed with that and I believe that it is unfair to not highlight that when booking with Clipper. However, the young lady checking me in - Flordeliza - was incredibly friendly, empathetic and did a great job coping with a tired annoyed me. In addition, i was upgraded to higher level room. As a regular Fairmont guest, i was not disappointed and may even say that this one may become my most favorite on the west coast. The Lounge service was superior! I was accomodated for my vegetarian diet, i got great walking path tips and excellent restaurant recommendations (Carolyn), Latte Machiatto exactly how i like it (Irwin), friendly face and friendly greetings alwasy (Alejandra). The location couldn't be more perfect. The restaurant quality was excellent, the gym was perfect, the spa excellent. I had the most marvelous stay at this hotel, and will look forward to making this at least an annual vacation. Thank you to the staff at the Lounge for making my stay delightful!
