I have recently spent 3 days along with 3 friends at Hotel Sol Cayo Coco on a all-inclusive basis and can’t really recall any bad experiences at all. Activities are scheduled everyday, adults & children equally, and prizes are offered too. Drinks and snacks available all day 24/7. Unfortunately we went to the bar at 2am and one of the ovens wasn’t working. Nevertheless, drinks were available upon request. Beach is just a stone away from the hotel which makes is very convenient! Ive read some reviews above and I have to reiterate that is not true and that majority of the staff speaks english, the animation team, some waiters do too; there were some Canadian & british families around and never seen them struggling to communicate with anyone. Equally, the animation team do speak english and explain all the activities in english. Have to say that ALL the animation team were FAB, can’t remember all names but Yonpi and all the rest, equally, made us have a fabulous experience during our stay. Pablo, the General Manager was also very welcoming and made sure we were having a pleasant stay. Live cuban groups performing during the day, and in the night, salsa dancing performances from professional dancers; oughta say they left as very impressed. In Havana you have to pay £70 per head to see a show as such. Definitely coming back here once I save up some more £££ Again thanks to ALL SOL CAYO COCO STAFF!! Where to start. Mediocre flight with over officious bog attendants on the flight and the ridiculous amount of bin bags of plastic unrecyclable waste with them, a real eco service. Luckily they've all now been sacked and gone bust. (Thomas Cook) Hotel. Have to say reception staff and room reasonable. What lets it down is the daytime, food, and bars. You are made to feel unwelcome. Despite making the effort to speak spanish and using please and thank you all the time, the barstaff simply cant be bothered. You are ignored most of the time and when someone eventually speaks to you, its with barely a grunt. The bar girl by the pool refuses full stop and just jabbers something unintellible and points to another barstaff to see them. The pool area. oh what a dream this is. If you can stand someone screaming down a microphone all afternoon then enjoy. It has to be on full volume as the thump thump oo oo noise which some might call music is also on full pelt. Whilst here, why not sample the food. Well dogs would even leave it. Incinerated lumps of stuff resembling coal which were meant to be burgers. But the pool area has innovative ways of clearing tables (as aforementioend staff couldnt be bothered). Firstly, birds come down and scavenge what they can tossing plates (paper incidentally) and anything else out the way. Then, the sea breezes blow all the leftovers, paper plates, plastic cups etc, into the pool Note that the hotel bars also useless plastic cups and tumbers at night. Class. Make the most of breakfast, as this is your only edible food for the day. Lunch, if you can call it that, and evening meal, are barely edible and appeared to be just the same rehashed sludge, reheated day in day out. This means that the decent food, the steak grill bar with one cook, has a permanent queue 40 people long, so then he starts to rush and dishes up half cooked meat. until that runs out. A sight worth seeing is the benefit brigade hoards (tracksuit, trainers and baseball cap brigade), decend on the (2) tubs of ice cream which runs out in 3 minutes. A further treat is instore for the 'guest' (aka prisoner cell block H), is when the cuban locals arrive for the weekend. Give up any idea of being served. as staff will ignore you completely, even more so than aforementined. The hotel staff will prioritise locals in all ways, youve almost no chance of a restaurant table, you will have to wait about half hour for a bar drink, thats if you can put up with no bar cahirs available after cuban familiries and hoards of kidds have invaded. After 4 days, we gave up and went to melia hotel next door which cost another £452. A blatant rip off, but the move process was so slick that it was clear this happens very frequently. And people are meant to feel sympathy to thomas cook. rip people off, you pay the price.

We stayed at the Sol for two weeks in mid September to start of October. After the short transfer, we arrived to a wonderful welcome. Dancers in the lobby and bubbly. Our room was 2407, over the lobby on the top floor. I’ve never seen such a stunning view! It was breathtaking! The room was lovely. Two large double beds and a separate sink/wardrobe area. Really lovely rooms which were cleaned to an excellent standard by our cleaner Idolaidys (sorry spelling.) The lobby was large and relaxing with a separate bar area. The bar regularly ran out of soft drinks, but we read the reviews before hand and knew this was likely to happen. The pool area is really great. Three large pools, one being quieter and lower than the other two away from the entertainment. Nice swings and sheltered areas too. Special shout out to the gardeners, as the hotel grounds are stunning. Gorgeous flowers, palms and pathways. Now for the best bit....the beach! We went to Playa los Coloradas which is the beach to the right of the rock. It’s accessed by a wooden walkway and boy do I miss that view! Just gorgeous. The sea was choppy some of the time due to the wind, but we caught it on calmer days too and it’s beautiful. We liked the beach cabanas for when it got too hot. There was a new open bar area with benches and you can pull your own beer. We climbed the rock and the view was amazing. The other beach, which I had read better reviews of, wasnt our fave, so we didn’t bathe here much. The staff are amazing. They work so hard to make your stay enjoyable and they’re always smiling. The only negative we could say was the food. We didn’t come with high expectations so we managed on what we could. Breakfast pancakes were lovely! There was an open buffet which I didn’t really eat off as it was repetitive, but the live pizza and pasta stations were good. We took supplies of crisps with us, which I’m glad we did as they a nice snack on the beach and I didn’t see any all holiday ??. The entertainment team worked really hard day and night. We played bingo and watched some of the evening shows which were good. The whole Thomas cook fiasco was happening whilst we were there and the hotel was great. We were some of the last Brits out of the hotel and the management and dancers came out to say goodbye. All in all, we had a fantastic time. Yes, the food was hit and miss, but you won’t starve! Go with an open mind and you can’t go wrong. We would definitely come back if another tour operator came to Cayo coco

I have just spent three weeks at Sol Cayo Coco and felt that I should put an honest review of my experience at this resort. The Sol occupies what must be one of the best locations on the Cayos if not all of Cuba,it has easy access to two stunning beaches which you simply cannot fault, there are plenty of shades and sun beds. The grounds are well kept and attractive, the pool areas are clean and the pools are well maintained. The hotel itself,is showing its age a little but nothing to get too critical about. My room was on the top floor of block 2,and the view was stunning, although the way the hotel is set out I think any room off the ground floor should have a decent outlook. The room had two large comfortable beds pushed together, and still felt very spacious, good aircon, modern fridge, flat screen TV, nice balcony,a good walk in shower, and a free digital safe. The room was kept spotless by the hard working cleaner, never any issue with clean towels or bedding she is an absolute gem.The food in Cuba is always a very subjective issue so I will totally honest, some of the food in this hotel is very poor but not all of it.The fruit was always great, the omelette's great, the bread very good, meat and fish at the cooking stations very good,a la carte very good.Pasta, pizza, burgers and fries all very hit and miss, you will not starve but you may have trouble varying your menu. The staff here do work very hard and deserve massive credit for all they do and here I must mention Yanitza in the buffet who turned mundane meals into cabaret time.Sadly, this is where my review takes a dive.i believe this to be the worst managed hotel I have been to in Cuba, and I have been there nine times.i had three legitimate complaints logged with customer services, but not once did any manager seek to discuss issues with me.One I resolved, one the TC rep resolved and one I resolved with the help of a Canadian guest, sorry but really not good enough.Another thing that is not so great is that because this is low season the hotel lays of staff, clearly an economic/management decision, the problem is that some facilities then close because the staff aren't there to man them. This then leads to another issue, everyone is forced to use one bar(understaffed),well you get the picture.I had a great time in Cuba, this hotel is in a great location some fantastic staff but poorly managed,on several levels.

I visited here as a last minute holiday with my 9 year old daughter. We looked at reviews of various neighbouring hotels at the time of booking and chose the Sol based on the great comments about staff and hospitality. We were not disappointed. For the reviews complaining of the food.. I have a fussy 9 year old who became best friends with the pizza maker! They even exchanged a hug on us leaving because she always had something to eat thanks to the hotel striving to accommodate even fussy eaters. If you want a fully inclusive international bar you should pay for an upgraded hotel, with a higher rating as you get what you pay for here and there is no lies or trying to hide it either. Everyone was so friendly! from the lifeguards to the animation right through to waiting staff. Our breakfast and lunch waiter (stationed on the right as you walk in to the buffet) always had our table ready and greeted us with a smile! For dinner the young waiter, also stationed on the right always made sure we had the drinks we wanted waiting for us with dinner I never caught his name as he was always scurrying away working hard, which is by no means a negative! It just shows you how hard the staff work to keep this place running. Juan the bartender in the lobby is amazing! He always made me the drink I wanted even if they didn’t particularly have it on the menu! Or made something similar! This is a hotel where you can have a low cost relaxing fun and enjoyable holiday with white beaches and the chance to enjoy the real taste of Cuba if you so wish to! I loved this holiday- the animation so friendly and welcoming! Especially Mucca who always made sure my daughter was happy! The snack bar chefs for always making me a top notch burger.. the maid for decorating my room and folding my daughters things in to beautiful creations!! Everything about this place was amazing to me, We loved every minute and can’t wait to come back! 100% will return! with this hotel the staff make your holiday! And this is the reason I can’t wait to return to the Sol!
