Staff: Wow!! Where do we begin. Start with check in by Adilen. So pleasant and professional. She graciously answered any questions we had throughout our stay. So nice meeting you. Thank Yoel in the International. What a pleasant and efficient server. Thank you Kieriena in TeX Mex. Absolute sweetie. Bladimir thank you for the drinks and conversation while we waited for dinner. Lobby Bar: Most amazing group of servers and bartenders we've encountered. Thank you Yoseet, Norge, Juan Carlos , Faviel, Micha Audrey, Waladimer, Yosvany, Yudilsey....and others who I unfortunately missed their names. All were amazing!! Room: Newly renovated and huge. Functional and no issues. Fridge stocked daily by Edwardo. Lovely, professional man. AC and electronic safe worked great. Food: Great BBQ, snack bar and Beach grill. Thank you Yamy and Grill King .... A la cartes were great. Thank you Leticia for booking our dinners. Lovely lady. Unfortunately the buffet was very disappointing. Limited food selection and very small. Beach: Breathtaking, clean and could walk for miles. Always had a chair, thank you Ernestin and Alexis. They work so hard in the heat. Fantastic guys at beach bar. Robinson, Nestor and Yosvany.... Entertainment: Talented musicians in the lobby each evening. Sometimes even in the morning and mid day. Only saw two show. We're not up late. Overall, great week with amazing staff. We'll be back and will recommend you to friends and family.... Ruby and Larry

Stayed March 15-22, lovely small resort, no chair game shenanigans, you could go to the beach at 11 and still get a first row palapa. Meanwhile next door at las Dunas all the beach chairs were “reserved” by about 8. We loved the layout, everything was in close walking distance, we had no problems at all with our room in building 18. Stunning beach, and very relaxing overall. Buffet breakfast was just fine, bbq or pizza for lunch, and supper buffet was a little repetitive but ok. Enjoyed the Tex mex restaurant. No line ups ever for us and great service. Special thanks to Damarys at buffet who introduced herself our first time and remembered our names and greeted us warmly each day! We are most certainly returning next March break.

Well to begin we have visited this resort 8 times this was the most disappointed one. Dont get me wrong the resort is clean...beach is amazing the staff outstanding but this year we noticed some bad changes. The poor staff was running...running to keep up the demand of all the vistors that were in such a hurry to be waited on....there was a gentleman been there for Id say three years he looked exhausted...he had blisters from running...no pool side drinks to be made....the lineups at the beach restaurant was long but again everyone is on a vacation and please hurry up Im missing my chair....Im sorry but cutting back on your staff your great staff that has been there for years is not a great idea. And Im a wine drinker and after a long day of sitting on my chair I need to sit at the amazing lounge and enjoy a glass or two of vine...to me its the best part of the day...well guess what they ran out of vino a number of days....really...its not right....people need wine after of a day sitting on their butts...So all joking aside the resort the staff the beach the lounge the pool is and always be my cottage for two weeks but the management better pull up their pants...or u are going to lose some repeat vistors...we are use to the best The Melia Cayo Santa is the best in my eyes or use to be??

This is our 8th vacation in Cuba, and over years we were seeing constant degradation in hotels and services. this time we picked Melia Cayo Santa Maria because it had high rating on TripAdvisor. After we completed the visit, I am confused how people gave the resort such a good review. Possibly is because of first impression. when you look around reception, grounds and swimming pool look nice but when you get into the resort you find not pleasant surprises. Rooms are in terrible condition. The doors (where they exist) are in terrible condition, the bottom is damaged, rusty nails are visible. The faucets are upgraded but it looks they were not cleaned since they were installed, the stain is soo big on all of them. The fridge in the room is not refilled as expected (daily). I called customer service, complained at the reception and only when I asked to talk to manager (that I did not succeed) I got the fridge refilled. it looks you have to talk personally to customer service to get something done. I asked whey they do not have Canadian flag with all others in front of the hotel and was explained that they do not have it! Most of the visitors were from Canada. Next day they solved the problem - they removed all flags!! At check in we were not told anything about services, possibilities, the gave us the keys and poor black and white copy of the resort layout. That was all - nothing more. first 2 days we could not get white wine, they just did not have it. Rosé was available only one day! Beach towels were not available for 2 days. can you imagine that you need to be on the beach on stained and dirty beach lounge chairs without towels. It is obvious that you were not able to replace yours towels for those 2 days. When they made beds, they used short, probably double bad sheets on our king size bad. we found that after midnight and had to wait to be replaced for another half our. Bugs and ants are visible everywhere, I did not bother complaining - just lived with them. I do not need to say that the food was terrible, below any expectations. the only good food was barbecue and omelet. I have to say that the restaurant and bar staff were really good, nice surprise after all oter experiences. Internet was pleasant surprise, you could het it everywhere, even in the rooms and was not expensive - 1 CUC per hour. This is not good for Melia, and not good for Cuba, the road they are going leads to really bad future.

We just wanted to escape the cold and I had read reviews for Dunas and Melia and decided upon Melia because it was a smaller resort. It exceeded our expectations. The check in was quick and our luggage was promptly taken to our rooms. The rooms were spacious and bright. We noticed that we could not access our safe to store our valuables. We contacted the front desk and a service person arrived within minutes to unlock the safe. The pool area was beautiful. Most people seemed to access the beach during the day and the pool didn't appear to be busy until late in the afternoon The beach was absolutely spectacular The food was very good, much better than our first trip to Varadero. The buffet has lots to choose from with many a la cartes. The pasta a la carte and the pancake a la carte are good choices. The grill restaurant at the beach was great. The best offerings were at the 24 hour snack bar by the pool. We ate most of our meals here. The pizza, burgers and sandwiches were good options. If you love coffee, check out the coffee menu. We tried two of the a la carte restaurants. They were average We preferred our meals at the other restaurants. There were many options to choose from and nobody should go home hungry. The bar fridge in our room was always stocked with bottled water, beer and pop. The evening entertainment in the lobby bar and theatre each evening were very enjoyable, featuring local cubano culture with dancers, and wonderful musicians. The evening syncronied swim show at the pool was impressive. The staff, from the gardeners to the front desk were extremely hard working and made every effort to assist you. The only drawback to this location is that it is quite a distance from other places. Most day excursions to other towns run 10-12 hours. So, if you are used to touring around and doing day trips you may not be happy. We were here for the sun and the sand and were not disappointed. On the plus side, the only people allowed to cross the causeway are the tourists and employees, so you are never bothered by people on the beach trying to sell you stuff. We did two excursions. The Catamaran trip was fun. We had a chance to interact with dolphins and had a hearty lobster lunch. We also did the dinner and evening show excursion featuring the Buena Vista Social Club. The dinner featured classic Cuban cuisine in a local restaurant. The nightclub show was a lot of fun, showcasing renowned Cuban musicians and well worth it. Both of these excursions were located within a half an hour of the resort. Would we return? Absolutely. You receive great value. it's a beautiful location, clean and safe The hosts are warm and welcoming
