I chose the Sunscape Sabor based on its location, and the reviews I had read regarding snorkeling directly from its beach, and I wasn’t disappointed. I loved the convenience of snorkeling from the beach and went out a couple times each day. There’s a wide variety of sea life, and I saw more fish each time I went out. I also used the Stand-Up-Paddle boards every day, and they have kayaks and Hobie Cats too. There are two bars on the beach, and I never had to wait more than a minute or two for a drink. I loved the dinner options, especially the Italian and Mexican restaurants. All the staff was great (e.g. bartenders. activities, housekeeping). The only down side of this resort are the mosquitos. The resort provides bug repellant, and we bought Off, but we still got numerous bites. I’m suspect all Cozumel resorts deal with mosquitos, so this really isn’t a Sunscape Sabor issue.

    Friendly Staff - horrible accomodations

We have stayed at this hotel three times and each time we have been upgraded to their so called "Villas". They are outdated as well but the better of two evils. The standard rooms are horrible, outdated and dirty. Fixtures do not work and drawers are broken. The first time we stayed, we were told that the rooms were being renovated - that was two years. I kept going back because they have a friendly staff - although the only restaurant to eat at is El Patio (Mario is outstanding, he is the best thing about the resort) The other two restaurants have horrible food. I wish I could stay that we would go back but the awful rooms are just not worth the money.

We would rate this hotel as a 2-Star. It has absolutely nothing major to offer! The selection of food was poor, as was its quality. When we arrived, we had to change our suite as it was AWFUL in every sense of the word! The second suite was much better as it had an exceptionally beautiful overlook of the sea, separate living room and bedroom, as well as Jacuzzi that was located in a secluded area "away from the eyes" of other guests. What made our stay pleasant was Antonio! We will return to this island, hopefully next year, only due to his kindness, great customer service, honesty and sincerity. Great customer service and sincerity we also experienced from Miguel at the Fantasy Travel kiosk at the hotel!

Perfect destination for cyclists, scuba and snorkelling

Cozumel is the one place in the Caribbean where I feel 100% safe road cycling solo. The dedicated bike path around the island is awesome. The island also boasts an excellent golf course. If you're looking for a beach vacation, it may not be right for you. Cozumel is a coral reef which makes for rocky footing.

There are some good and some bad about this resort. I will list my experiences with each. I traveled here with my family and family friends, 4 parents & 4 kids ages 10-12. I travel to the Mayan Riveria 1-2 times a year for the past 12 years. I have stayed at many resorts in the area, also I have stayed in downtown Playa a couple times. Resorts I have stayed at include - Secrets Capri, Secrets the Vine, Valentin, Grand Princess, Royal Catalonia. We booked a ROH room thru Cheap Caribbean, when we arrived we upgraded to a Jr Suite with Ocean view, this room was larger, it had a master suite with king bed and a living area with pull out sofa (this living area could use a TV). Positives: The Beach area is fantastic for snorkeling, not too great for swimming, there are rocks when you enter, which are great hiding spots for the fish. I’ve never stayed at a resort with such great snorkeling as this. Sunny side – Lunch – Cuban pork Torta or Chicken Torta. Dinner – jerk chicken, cheesecake. El Patio-mexican restaurant – fantastic, we ate here twice, most things on the menu are great. I would recommend the salbutes, melted Oaxaca, chicken enchiladas with green sauce, buenelas. Entertainment Staff – Ceaser, Randy, Monserrat were all fantastic and encouraged the guests to participate in their activities. Main Pool Bar – Luis and Wilburten. These guys made great drinks and friendly service every time we requested. Main Pool – HUGE !! Fantastic. Grounds – Great foliage and landscaping. Crews were out every day taking care of the grounds. We really liked the walkways to all the villas within the resort. Negatives: We didn’t like that the lunch buffet is so far from the main pool. While Sunny Side restaurant is good I feel that most people near the pool/beach want a quick lunch rather than a sit down and order. Da mario - This restaurant is a real let down, it supposed to be Italian but the service/food/pasta were not good. We were sat down and it took nearly 15 minutes to get service, asked for water and that came within 5 minutes -ok. We quickly ordered and after 30 minutes no food, 45 minutes no food, 1:15hr still no food came. The bartender noticed we were getting restless and I mentioned to him something about food, it seems that they had forgotten about us, even though we were sitting at the table close to the bar/kitchen, they rapidly made food for us. The spaghetti tasted like spaghettios, the fucilli pesto was merely buttered noodles with pesto sauce. The pizza was a thin crust disaster - there is better pizza that is served in the buffet restaurant Portofino right next to Da Mario, not sure why this better pizza is not the pizza served in Da Mario? Rooms – outdated, our hot water didn’t work a few times-water not even coming out of the hot water faucet. Air conditioner broke and had to be fixed. Recommendations: Update the rooms Have a quick service lunch area near the main pool - ie hamburgers/hotdogs/fries/nachos/guacamole. Overall: You have to know what to expect when you book, we did and I don’t think we were disappointed. Regardless of some issues I think this resort was great for my family vacation. I would recommend this for a family but not what I’m used to for an adults trip. Food was good at all locations except Da Mario.
