    Not a true adult only

I initially attended Iberostar Selection Holguin in December 2019 I stayed in the main resort area and had a great visit. At that time I would have rated the hotel a 4. Because I had enjoying my stay the first time I decided to go back a second time but this time opted to stay at the Coral part of the resort. The positive's were that check in went quickly and the woman at the front desk was pleasant. The room and the area are well maintained and clean. the gardening staff work very hard to maintain the area around the resort. The food was good we ate breakfast at the Coral restraint every morning the young woman who cooked the omelets was great. We ate at the a la carte and although the options were limited the food itself was good. This is the only a la carte that is adult only. Although this was the adult only section there were a couple of days that other from the main resort came to the adult only section and used the amenities there when it was clear they did not have the correct wrist bands on. Room service was horrible we ordered room service three different times. the first day we order a hamburger and fries and we waited an hour and 40 minutes yep the food was stone cold. When we expressed our concerns the lady at the front desk told us to call there in the future so we did but this did not seem to make a difference. The second day we ordered room service not expecting much and we did it more just to see how long it would take. This time we just ordered French fries this took 45 minutes to get to the room once again the food was cold. We heard from the young ladies next door how good their room service was so we attempted this a third time on our last day there we ordered a bottle of rum and some cookies we ordered this at 1:00 pm in the afternoon. At 3 in the afternoon it had still not arrived so we called to check in about it we were told it would be they soon it finally arrived at 6:30 pm . Yes we tipped The butler service was also a huge waste of time. We had Yunior (the younger one) although he was friendly he expected a tip for everything (we initially tipped but as the service was horrible and slow we stopped) but it didn't change the fact that he was slow and could not find him when we needed anything. On a couple of occasion he walked right on by us and stopped by the young ladies laying next to us to take their order and didn't even stop to ask if we wanted or needed anything. I have no clue who our butler in the evening was he was as he never came around to introduce himself and we never seen him. Alex the pool guy did a good job at changing the towels out regularly through out the day but he kept himself busy flirting with the single ladies. There was only two day that he did any games or activities around the pool and the second day was only because another guest had asked. He did however spend a great deal of time flirting with the single ladies, and giving them a souvenir Iberostar towel. We do not drink beer and had requested with our butler when we arrived to just have water and soft drink delivered to our room every day. This seemed to be an issues as we had to make the same request every day of our stay there. There was one day that our fridge was not restocked at all. If you wanted to attend the a la cartes they had to be attended in the main resort. The same was true if you wanted to play pool or ping pong. There was no activities in the adult only section to do. They should have at least one pool table and ping pong in the adult only section. I paid for an adult only resort not the main resort with screaming squawking kids. If you wanted to go on an excursion once again you had to go through the main resort to get picked up. Pick should happen at the Coral front door as that is where I paid to stay. We had an early check out and this once again had to be done through the main resort. . The only thing that was adult only was the one a la carte, the pool area and your room. Everything else was in the main resort. Pros: clean resort, food was good but not as much of an option as on My December stay and check-in most staff were friendly and helful Cons- not a true adult only , unless you are female you seem to get ignored, room service was horrible at best, butler service was totally useless. pool entertain minimal Alex spent most of his day flirting with the younger females no evening activities in the adult only area i.e. pool tables, ping pong etc. For the extra money I paid for the adult only it was not worth it. We did meet some nice guests and enjoyed their company. I don't see us coming back to this resort. It is too bad as I had such a good time on my first trip. For the extra money I paid for adult only it was a waste of money.

We first visited this resort in Jan of 2019 and absolutely loved it! In Jan 2020 we returned and stayed in the Coral Level which was a wonderful experience! The resort is well kept, clean and inviting. You will certainly never go hungry or thirsty here! I cannot say enough about the staff! Everyone is outstanding and welcoming and go out of their way to make you comfortable. I have to give a special shout out to the following: At the lobby bar: Yaneli, Yunir and Michael, at the beach bar: Henry and Sergei at the buffet: Aristides and last but not least Leandro Rodriguez...what a wonderful group of friends you have all become. I would and have recommended this resort to family and friends. Cannot wait to come and visit again!!!

Stayed in a Jr. Suite in the Coral Section in January of 2020. I have been to Holguin over 40 times but this was my first trip to the Iberostar. From the moment we arrived we were treated like royalty. The staff is amazing (even saw some familiar faces from another hotel). Our butlers Laritza and Junior couldn't do enough for us. The food and dining in the Coral Section is above par and offers a quiet place to dine. Drinks are premium brands. Room was amazing as well as the pool. Never an issue getting a lounger or Bali bed. We will be back.

Firstly, the staff could not have done anything more, did 100% in making us comfortable and happy. A special shoutout to our Butler Junior and Leandro for being so helpful with information requested and service. We were sooo happy being in the adult section as we found so many families in the main area in the other part of resort, quite noisy and chaotic. The food and beverages; there were shortages throughout the island such as potatoes, tonic water, ginger ale, tomato juice, no cranberry juice but we always found suitable beverage choices so this wasn’t a big deal for us. Lots of fresh salad, meats, great pasta, lobster and shrimp and desserts. For Cuba, I’d rate food 4 out of 5. Our suite was awesome and had an outdoor shower, kept very clean. I wish I could remember all the names of these beautiful Cuban souls that made our holiday so special. My husband had a much needed rest and the resort was perfect for us. We definitely will return next February. I would definitely recommend to others.

e stayed for 7 days from February 28th to March 6th. This was our 10th trip to Cuba. First time in Holguin. The resort was the best one we have stayed in. It is just 16 months old (apron) so everything was in good order. The room was very clean and the furnishings seemed new. For pillows there was a large one plus a smaller throw on each bed. We bring our own and the combination of the 3 was very comfortable. The beds were probably the most comfortable we have had in Cuba. Linens were nice as well. The room had a large flat screen TV with many channels... only 1 english but we weren't there to watch TV so that was fine. We found the Coral section very peaceful and uncrowded. The staff were friendly and always smiling and gracious. trips to the family section of the hotel were fine as well although the main buffet seemed crowded the one evening we were there. the selection of food was good both in our Coral level restaurant and the main buffet. There was plenty of smoked salmon every day which was a nice treat! Butter was not always available however usually there was cream cheese instead. One morning there was a bowl of mayonnaise next to the toaster which seemed odd and no butter or cream cheese to be found. there wasn't much of a line up at the Coral level for fresh cooked eggs at breakfast or something else at lunch. our friends ate at the main buffet for dinner more than we did and although there was more choices the line ups for freshly prepared stuff were longer. The entertainment was very good. one evening there was a violinist at the Coral Level Restaurant and he was AMAZING!!! We enjoyed the shows. The Cuban party which is every thursday for lunch was a nice treat! probably the best meal of the week with a suckling pig roasted and lots of tasty dishes like rice and beans, fried fish, sweet rolls. Beaches we read many things about how the beach is set up. Closer to the hotel there is an 'inlet' where the water is shallow and perfect for kids to play. if you walked further across a bridge you got to a more conventional beach were you could swim, kayak, snorkel and take a catamaran ride. We had the most EXCITING catamaran ride with Raphael. there were lots of waves and it was the best experience we have had on a catamaran ride! There were electric 'carts' that ferried people to the beach or you could walk and this helped with the fitbit challenges for sure! there is a bar on the far beach and one washroom. Not ideal but we did okay. swimming there was great.. no issues nice and sandy. Nearby there was lots of opportunities for snorkelling but you swam to those (bring a floating thing if you don't like the idea of not being able to touch bottom). there was lots of opportunity to walk and interesting things to see. The alacarte restaurants were okay. We didn't try the steakhouse. We went to the Mediterranean, Gourmet and Japanese. Mostly we stuck to the coral restaurant but the menu didn't change. We enjoyed lobster most of the time as it seemed to be the meal we enjoyed the most. I believe this is the best resort we have been to in Cuba. I would have preferred to have the beach closer to our room though so you can run back and forth more easily and don't have to worry if you forget something. otherwise it was awesome!
