We travel to Waikiki a few times a year. Always stay at the Moana Surfrider. They have the best location on the beach if you love to surf, standup paddle, snorkel or just swim in the crystal clear water. On top of all that, the staff at the pool side towel desk are the most friendly people we have ever met at any hotel. Gloria is always smiling, Moe is alway friendly and Lee is always ready to tell a joke and gives the best local restaurant recommendations any traveler could ask for. Take my advice and don’t bother looking for anywhere else to stay if you are planning a trip to Waikiki.

This hotel opened on March 11, 1901, and was the first hotel built in Waikiki. This is an hour-long free historical tour and is offered every Monday and Wednesday beginning at 11 a.m. No booking required and the meeting area is on the second-floor lobby of the Moana’s Banyan Wing. We really enjoyed this tour run by the very knowlegeable Ms Kehaulani Kam. This tour coincided with the hotel's 119th birthday. After the tour we went downstairs for the hotels birthday celebration and indulged in free champagne and cupcakes ansd a speach by the hotel manager. We also met one of the surfboard manufacturers of the original timber surfboards. Its a great free activity to do in Honolulu.

Dating back to 1901 this is a classy hotel very smartly presented. Right on the famous beach with a beautiful garden bar with a stunning Banyan Tree at its heart. The beach overlooks the beach offering great drinks and snacks. The restaurant is exquisite offering fabulous outside dining as well as inside. Don’t stay anywhere else!

I am a Bonvoy member and was upgraded to the original tower erected 1901. The first hotel in Waikiki. We loved the service and cleanliness and sheer beauty of this space. I would highly recommend this if you have to stay in Waikiki.

This was an amazing hotel. I’m a bonvoy Marriott platinum member and I received an ocean view upgrade and had access to the lounge every day. The location is great. It’s right on the beach and there are a ton of restaurants and stores within walking distance. If you get hot on the beach and don’t feel like going in the ocean the pool is right there. At night after a nice dinner come back to the hotel and sit on the rocking chairs on either the front or back porch for a relaxing time. The room was a decent size and the bathroom had your standard tub/shower combo. Also the toilet seats were heated which was different. The gym was very nice for being a hotel gym. Had plenty of equipment and was a decent size. There is a $37 per day resort fee which sucks but it does come with some amenities that I didn’t really look into. The parking is also very expensive so I recommend parking at the banyan condominiums where parking is only $80 for the week. The staff were all very friendly. They were willing to help with bags and greeted me and my fiancée with Hawaiian leis which I didn’t think they did anymore but they do. I had an issue with the delivery of a specialty proposal cake (they lost my order) but the man I talked to on the phone was very apologetic and took care of the issue right away. There’s plenty of ABC stores around if you want to save a few bucks and stock up on snacks and drinks for your room.
