Beautiful resort in Waikoloa Village

P9689GCjulies (Walnut Creek, California) on Apr 12, 2024

For our first trip to the Big Island we decided to stay here for 6 nights. When our room wasn’t ready we were able to check in our luggage and it was brought to our room once it was ready. We luckily got to stay in the Makai Tower. Highly recommend this tower since the activities, pool, spa, restaurants are here and a self parking entrance. The room itself was nice and the shower head/pressure was good. This is rare, it is always bad in my experience. We did not utilize the pool much as it was overcrowded, chaotic, and people hoarded chairs with their towels so no one else could get one, ever. The cafes all closed by 4 which was very inconvenient. Only the Italian restaurant and Kona Bar was open past that. Food is outrageously expensive and the location of the property is about 20 mins from Kona, 1.5 from Hilo so you are stuck eating there or driving a few mins within the resort to the King’s and Queen’s Shops that have some eats, stores. We frequented the Island Gourmet Market for breakfast but that was mediocre. Luckily there was a Starbucks so I went there alot too. The laundry facilities were non-existent. Machines were broken. The only other ones were in a tower across the resort, a maze to get too only for out key NOT work. Resort itself is nice, but I think I would stay in Kona for a few days and Hilo for a few for this to be ideal. Waikoloa is a bit of a drive if venturing around the island like we did. Hapuna Beach was nearby and our fav beach here.

Dirty room and no service

Dan R on Apr 10, 2024

The hotel is terrible! We did not get the room we reserved and paid for. The room we did get was filthy dirty, and had dirty sheets on the bed. The towels where on the floor dirty and the trash cans where overflowing. We got zero help from the front desk who were actually very rude about it. It took us a full day just to get clean towels, and never did get room service to replace the sheets or empty the trash. The hotel told us to simply put the trash out side the door. I would highly recommend you avoid this resort at all costs.
