Nightmare - horrible place

Reggie K on Apr 21, 2024

This place is HORRIBLE from a customer service standpoint. And, they are doing very stupid things for the hotel, their customers and the world: when I walked in to my room, the standalone AC unit's thermostat was set at 62F and the room was 61F! Absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable. The day in Kauai was cool to being with and there was no way this room would get up to a comfortable temp for me - like at least 75F. What a waste of energy (Hawaii uses oil to produce electricity!) and to make it worse, the "manager" tries to tell me that these units change temperatures on their own - that it wasn't done by a person, they just randomly change their temperatures! After waiting several hours, still below 70 in the room, they moved me to a different room. This hotel is very old, it has been remodeled, but not very well. If take a close look, it is filthy (the vent in ceiling in bathroom, look behind the furniture, etc.) The bed - they do not use a mattress pad, and they do not have a top sheet! The Keurig coffee maker is so old and gunked up anything made in it tastes horrible. I complained about that and they brought another machine that wasn't quite so bad, but still desperately in need of cleaning. And, to top it all off, in the new room, I leave for the day and set the thermostat on the Daiken split unit to 78. When I come back ready for shower and bed after 8pm, housekeeping had changed the temperature to 70! And,. the manager again tries to give me the ridiculous excuse that these systems change temperature settings by themself. I pity the poor koi in the porrly maintained murky water. Everything about this place is wrong. Unlike most of Hawaii tourist things, they know nothing here about Aloha or customer service.

Don't book it

Donna N (Cave Creek, Arizona) on Mar 21, 2024

We booked our family of 9 five months ago. Four rooms with 2 adjoining. Upon check in the front desk staff stated the hotel does NOT have adjoining rooms. This is contrary to both the hotel's website and the call to confirm. The front desk blamed my travel agent, us, and Delta vacations. Further, I was told rather insistently by a staff member looking at my reservation that we had booked 4 standard rooms but we were upgraded! I told her my paperwork clearly stated ocean view and I showed her the hotel website. The necessity of adjoining rooms was important because we needed two adults in one and 3 children under the age of 10 in another. The hotel was advised of all of this. One of the managers approached me and said the resort fee would be waived on one of the rooms. It was not. We're talking $250. The hotel itself and the location are fine BUT you cannot depend that your reservation will be accurate and it smacks of bait and switch. You book ocean view and the front desk tells you you booked standard. The corporate office has been notified and it is non-responsive. There are lots of hotels on Kauai. Don't consider this one.
