I really wanted to give a 2, but free breakfast for Diamond was something positive. The staff were nice. Rooms are not very nice. There is no beach, so their website pictures are deceiving. If looking to walk on beach, go somewhere else. I’m stuck here and disappointed that Hilton let’s them carry their name. If I could go somewhere else I would. Guess I’m spoiled from my time at Hilton Hawaiian Village for same points. Bar closed early so no way to enjoy a nightcap at 9 pm. If you just need a room I guess this is OK. We drive up to Na Pali beach to enjoy that seven mile beach. True beach.

Staff were really nice, cookies were good, coffee in the morning was nice. Location close to Wailua rivier. No cell signal in our room but was able to connect to WiFi. Free parking but maybe just enough parking.

    Fun weekend in KAUAI!

My wife and I live on OAHU for the past 2 years, and even before moving to Hawaii, we have been vacationing in KAUAI since 2005. On those previous trips, we'd normally spend a week or more, but always at a rental home or condo, vs. staying at hotel. So, even though we are very saavy when it comes to vacationing on KAUAI, we're not as 'up' on hotels around the island. But I am happy to say we were very happy with the HILTON GARDEN INN! The property is at an excellent location, right off the main island "highway," close to both Lihue and Kapa'a. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the room exceedingly clean and in good repair. The public areas of the hotel are open and airy, and aside from lots of fallen leaves and chicken doo doo (A common Kauai hazard!) on the walkways each morning near the Tiki Bar below the pool, clean and bright as well. Since we are GOLD HH members, we were able to take advantage of the free breakfast buffet, and made to order eggs or omelet option as well. Excellent perk that will save you $25 per person! About the only other negative things I can say (Aside from the dirty walkways near the Tiki Bar) are: 1.) Digital clock in the room was set 15 minutes too early, and there was no way to reset the time (Knob broken/missing) 2.) The business center computers had issues printing. One of the terminals would not print at all, and the other we needed help from the hotel staff to make the printer function work. If you need a place to stay for a few days, or even a week or more, this property is a great choice!

Pros - The hotel room is clean and housekeeping did a good job keeping it that way. The staff was mostly friendly. I had interaction with check-in, concierge and housekeeping. I never had difficulty finding a parking space. The location is mid-way from the north and south ends of the island. Plenty of options for shopping and eating in nearby Kapa'a and Lihue. Costco and Walmart are also close by. Not beachfront, but close to the beach and Lydgate Park. The beds were firm and comfortable, except for the twin sofa bed which was too soft. The room interiors looked recently renovated. I did borrow a small cooler for one day. It was a bit dirty. The fitness room was well equipped. The room is a bit larger than normal. Cons - I never could get the thermostat to stick to one temperature. Thermostat would rise by itself. Room was too warm. The A/C was too loud and cycling on/off too often. Its no wonder why they provide two sets of ear plugs. I used the coin-op laundry and ended up with several articles of clothing stained. Two pieces had stains in obvious places and so far I have not been able to remove them. They will end up as rags. The dryer definitely did not dry completely. I expected better results from commercial equipment. Upon checkout another surprise. Somebody ate Thanksgiving dinner and charged it to my room. The front desk person proceeded to go through all the receipts from that night trying to find the charge. The other front desk person urged her to remove the charge. She removed the charge for the dinner but left the charge for the tips. She finally removed the tips charge. This took half an hour. Luckily I was checking out early. I could have missed my flight. The lobby and hallways are open air. The humidity does leave a musty odor in the rooms. There are two cats who ‘live’ in the lobby. Not sure if they are housecats or strays. People allergic might want to stay away. The shower area is large but has no door. Water and suds splashes out towards the toilet wetting the floor. I did not try any of the on-site restaurants or use the pool. We passed on the two hour free bicycle rental.
