This was my 6th time I stayed in Punta Cana, so I'll try to compare this hotel to my other experiences: all-in-all it is a good above-mid-range hotel in my opinion in this area. It does worth the extra bucks, although it is not yet in the luxury category. Before I go into details: -be aware there's a mangrove-reserve in the middle of the hotel, so BRING REPELLENT and maybe take even an electric one for the room. -this is the first time I see a hotel where staff don't "expect" to be tipped for every single service and I quite like that being at an all-inclusive resort. Big plus from me. Tip only if you get something well above average. I grew tired at other places having to tip for every drink, while I have already paid more than 100 euros/day. Staff: Some reviews have mentioned staff was not nice - I think in general it's quite ok. Of course you'll be better off if you speak a few words of Spanish (just try a few words, people like it in general if you try to speak their language) - nevertheless I've never had any problems making myself understood in English. Reception staff was super-nice, bar staff as well. No issues with cleaners or gardeners, the security guard on the beach has even helped us find our towel which was taken at 6pm from our bed because someone thought we left it there - which could have cost us quite some money, but it didn't. Restaurant staff was nice too, the only thing I noticed in comparison with others is that they are not as chatty as in some other places - but I don't mind to be honest. Room: we stayed in Villa 27, which is the second block from the beach/pool area - a 2 minute walk, yet you don't hear the loud music around the pool. The room itself is ok - it looks a bit dated, but I have seen worse in Punta Cana (better too). The bathroom is ok, although water pressure on the 3rd floor was quite low. The bathtub is supposedly also a jacuzzi, but we haven't tried it. You have a safe for which you don't need to pay (usually it's 10-15 usd/week in other hotels), and you can configure it with your doorkey. The size is around 16", so if you have a laptop which is 15"or smaller it should fit (the door hinge takes up about 1"). Minibar is also loaded with soft drinks and beer - it chills the drinks, they're never really cold. Well, at least it's silent. It's a big plus that since there's no room-service, there's no food in the rooms and consequently I haven't seen any bugs/cockroaches in the room (I think it's the first time for me not seeing any in the Caribbean-area). For me the biggest issue with the room was the airco: even on the lowest level it is way too loud to sleep next to it, so we just cooled the room before sleep and kept the ceiling fan running on low rpm throughout the night. The other thing I didn't like was the lack of light: literally there are only reading-lights in the room so forget about finding something in the dark. Food&drinks: food is in general quite good. You have quite a selection in the buffet and in the snack bar near the pool area (24h). A'la carte restaurants can be booked up to 3 times a week, so we have tried the Mexican (don't bother - overcooked chicken, not so nice fajitas), Japanese (nice teppanyaki, good dessert), Italian (good pasta, good lasagne, ok dessert). Drinks are good as well, however most of them are made of local alcohols, unlike at higher-end places where you get international brands. Yet the cocktails in the lobby bar are high-quality and the others are good too. Pina colada, banana mama comes from the machine, but it's ok. The espresso from the machines is quite good (lobby, snack-bar). Pool/beach: all good, the only thing is that entertainment/animation/music can be a bit too loud at the pool near the beach. Haven't tried the pool in the middle. There are plenty of sunbeds and since people use the pools in the middle too, we could always find a place. Occasionally people come around and ask if you're interested in their goods/services but if you just say "no gracias" they don't push it and go away easily, which is nice. The hotel is laid out in a very big area, so you have electric "buses", going around every few minutes which take you to anywhere between the lobby-beach area. It is very nice, I didn't expect anything like this. They have multiple lines, it's like a small city. Drivers are nice too, seats are comfortable. Check for water on the seats before you sit down in your evening dress though - someone might have just been sitting there with a wet swimsuit before you. :) In general the hotel looks very environment-friendly, which is a big plus: as I said electric buses, no plastic straws (unless you ask for it), towels only washed if asked for, mangrove-forest reserve, lovely green garden, etc. You get free wifi in the lobby - speed is around 50 kbytes/sec so it's ok for a voice call, but don't expect video. Also you need to be in the front part of the lobby (reception area). What could be improved: -towels and pillows smelled somewhat bad. Sometimes even to the extent of a "wet-dog-smell". If it smelled more fresh I would have been happy to keep my towel for the whole week. -electric mosquito repellents in the rooms -ceiling-lights in the rooms -mimosas at breakfast (great) - make sure people know it contains alcohol (big letters, also in Russian) - I saw kids drinking it, obviously thinking it's orange-juice -more transparent offers of programs, excursions so people can look at them when it suits them (maybe a leaflet in the room) -make sure the pool snack-bar staff knows the rules themselves - I was turned away without a t-shirt on (while others already ate without one), while the (visible) rules say no barefeet/no wet clothes - nothing about t-shirts at the pool... -tell security guards to let hotel guests walk around the premises even if they wander into the other Grand Bahia hotel's area. We were told to turn back when we took a stroll one evening towards the buildings which look like a Disney-castle, because we were entering the other Grand Bahia Principe hotel's area. If we are hotel guests already and "allowed to use everything but the buffet-restarurant" in all the other hotels, why can't we just walk around? -the doors of the rooms should close a bit more quiet - it is not nice to wake up for the loud "bang" of your neighbor's door closing at 7am when they go for breakfast and you'd rather sleep in a bit All in all it is a very nice hotel for a very good price and for this price I'd come back for sure.

My husband and I purchase the Bahia membership in 2017 @ the Bahia principe in DR punta cana we go through the presentation for about 3 hours and we finally decided to sign up since it makes sense and the vip perks was exactly what we needed to boost up our vacation it takes a bit more time to do paper work but being at bavaro on my free certificate it was surely worth it, everything was delivered as promise we were treated as royalty with the black n gold armband...and looking forward to get the same treatment in Jamaica for our next trip...we’ve been doing short trips in the states but my best is the AI in the Caribbean ...thanks to Benito for all the help my concierge ????????

We stayed here for 11 nights with our two children age 11 & 7, from the moment we arrived we were treated wonderfully. This is our second visit here. Our room was spotless clean, lovely and comfortable, with a mini bar which was great. The hotel grounds are kept immaculate, the gardeners work so hard it’s kept clean and beautiful. The food was delicious, always fresh and something for everyone. We enjoyed eating at the different restaurants our favourite was the Italian. Thank you to Jorge in the buffet restaurant he was so helpful, also to Luis & Jose in the Mexican restaurant. Also Elissa in the beach grill she was so friendly and helpful please thank her! The pools were kept spotless clean, and the beach was amazing, the workers on the beach worked so hard clearing the seaweed each day. The entertainment staff were also fantastic my children loved getting involved in the daily activities on the beach. Our favourite was the mini Olympic day it was great fun and we all got involved. The evening entertainment was great, we enjoyed listening to the live music, there were also shows each evening. I can honestly say this holiday was perfect and we cannot wait to return! Thank you to all the staff they work so hard each and everyone of them, they are a credit to your hotel! Please ignore the negative reviews, the hotel & the location are amazing!!

Wrongly I wrote my first review of this hotel half way through my holiday but as time went on this hotel proved to be pretty bad. I have tried to write this review 3 times and it kept being deleted when I tried to post, so am not going to go into too much detail. Overall, hotel grounds, pool area and rooms are decent, beach is amazing and food ok. However the thing that lets this place down is their staff, unbelievably rude. No staff say hello, restaurant staff horrendous, you have to ask for a drink 3 times before it turns up, one waiter in the garden grill tutted when I wasn't ready to order my food and refused to take a drink order until we decided. We decided on this hotel after staying at the Luxury Bahia pricipe akumal in mexico last year which was amazing, this place lets Bahia Principe down. Avoid Punta cana and go to Mexico.
