    This weekend get-a-way was exactly what I needed - luxury accommodations, beautiful grounds, along with a, peaceful and relaxed atmosphere. I left rested and rejuvenated. I highly recommend the Melia Caribe Beach Resort.

    I am a business man, and I travel all over the world, and I have never experienced such a scam as this. I chose the D.R. For a relaxing vacation with my wife and 5 children. I chose this resort for it's reputation as a luxury hotel, and commensurate safety and security. First, prices for the excursions through the hotel were marked up insanely high. But that seems to be normal in all-inclusives these days, and we assumed they were chosen for the highest safety standards. We also noticed throughout the week that the housekeeping staff was taking pictures of the guest rooms after they cleaned them, but thought maybe that was for quality control, and thought nothing of it. On the fifth day, we took a boat tour. When we returned, my adult children's luggage had been ransacked and their valuables stolen, including cash that their grandparents had given them for the trip, and their X Box game console. There had been no forced entry into their room. We immediately went to the front desk and reported the incident. The manager in charge took our report, but then proceeded to tell us that "security " had taken pictures of drugs inside of my daughter's luggage, and if a police report was filed, those pictures would have to be included in the report. They said they would look into the incident, but offered us no compensation, and would not even refund the remaining two nights we had paid for. This was a well-planned theft, and considering the Manager in Charge's response, the entire hotel staff was involved. Having traveled to Mexico multiple times, I knew that getting the police involved would be a mistake. Somehow, my daughter would end up being the focus of their investigation, and I would likely be extorted for more money by the police. The last two days were horrible and we couldn't wait to get on the plane. Neither I or my family will EVER return to the Dominican Republic, and we strongly advise anyone who does to stay as far from this hotel as possible.

    Melia Caribe Beach Review

    The overall stay was great. We met a few staff member that made our family vacation and stay at Melia Caribe Beach an enjoyable and fun stay. We met Elianny Reyes and Martina Guerero, 2 hostess at the Merkado restaurant, always very welcoming, even with the mask on, we could tell they were always smiling, and very outgoing. Also, we had some amazing waitstaff, like Adrian Jimenes, always ready to get our drink orders, always checking to make sure we were happy and satisfied with our food and drinks. The only issue we found at this place, was the Doctor on site. She was kind of rude. Being a Doctor, it made me feel like I was bothering her. We needed doctor's referrals for COVID PCR test for 3 members of my family returning to Brazil, and she made those referrals with an attitude of I was holding her for doing something else, even though was nobody at The Circle Clinic (Resort Clinic), and I was paying $125 USD for each test.

    My fiancé and I stayed at the resort from December 28th through January 1st with two goals in mind. First, to celebrate New Years. Second, to meet with the staff about having our wedding at Melia in August 2021. None of which were fulfilled and instead we had the most terrible experience. We came here expecting a great vacation, and we got FAR from an even mediocre vacation. During the reservation process, we were offered the Level premium section for an extra cost. We accepted because the package sounded amazing. However, none of those promises were met. From day one, our room was dirty. The sink had clearly not been cleaned or even rinsed as there was spit blood. The concierge was to make a reservation for us at Riviera restaurant and it was not done. He was supposed to drive us to dinner and left us waiting for over 35 minutes at the other side of the resort. After expressing our concerns to the staff, they gave us a different concierge. Unfortunately, we had the same reservation problems the entire time. They were to set up dinner reservations for us and there was a problem every time. Further, the person who I was in contact with about a wedding was unavailable during my time there. I called well in advance to confirm she would be there during my stay and she simply lied. Fast forward to New Years Eve. The concierges were not informed of any of the events happening. This caused an exchange of continuous misleading information. We were told that due to COVID everyone would be assigned to a particular part of the resort for the NYE celebration. For example, some would celebrate at the beach, and others and the lobby or The Level Pool. Because we were part of The Level, we were assigned to the pool. We had dinner reservations at Merkado (restaurant by the beach) at 8:30pm and after dinner we went to the pool for the "celebration." To our disappointment, the so called "NYE Party" simply consisted of two speakers playing a playlist of songs and four blue lights. We waited there until midnight and never got to see the show or any celebration-like events. However, we did find out through social media that the lobby and the beach both had a show with dancers and such. The staff's excuse was that we might have missed the "celebration" while we were at dinner. If it would have been better planned and organized, we should have had an itinerary. In that case, we would have scheduled dinner around it. We were very disappointed that night. The next morning comes around and it's pouring rain outside. We message our concierge asking if the restaurant closest to our room is still open and he responds and indicates that it is in fact open. My fiance and I walk to the restaurant in pouring rain only to find out that the restaurant was closed. We left the resort that afternoon heading back home with an overwhelmingly disappointing experience. We had very high hopes for Melia as it is usually referred to as a high-end, great resort. Unfortunately, we were greatly disappointed by our experience and have decided not to return and much less host our wedding at a Melia resort.

    We were really happy to have Edgar as our concierge. He made sure we had a wonderful time at the resort from the moment we checked in: level services, reservations, details on the amenities, bookings etc.
