Overall great resort, bad buffet food

Emerald316 on Apr 20, 2024

Overall a great stay! The resort and are so beautiful! All the staff are friendly and accommodating. I would have given 5 stars if not for the quality of food in the buffet. The al a carte meals are amazing! Literally some of the best food we have ever had but you only get to go to three for a weeks stay. Other nights you have to eat dinner in the main buffet. There are animals running around everywhere that steal your food. Everything is ice cold! Not sure why. The food we ordered from the beach side places was ice cold too! They do have a microwave in the buffet lol. They are amazing with food allergies though! But its hard in the buffet cause of all the cross contamination. They have a gluten free section in the buffet but it is just desserts. A staff person will take you around the whole buffet and show you want to eat if you ask. I just wish they had some gluten free pasta, bread or pancake options. Overall I was impressed with how accommodating they are with allergies but the bad buffet food is probably what will keep me from coming back here.

Dissatisfied

Still here on Day 3.Booked with WestJet. Arrived, no transportation, met by no one. Found WestJet, took 4 different WestJet employees to travel us a ride to the hotel. Dropped off two other couples first at different resort s.(driver was efficient!!) dropped off. Checked in by a VERY uninterested staff. Gave ZERO information. ZERO!! Tried to get information, again the employee was disinterested. Got on the gold cart to room block (28 B) it’s dark. He brought our bags up. Thankfully! The room is just ok. Bathroom has mold around tub, tiny bugs, sink/taps dirty.. room was ok. Fridge is warm! Walked outside to go to buffet. Staff basically uninterested!!so weird. Minimum English, without trying! We are trying whatever Spanish (including a translator) food was ok! Staff just not engaging or smiling so weird! Woken up the ENTIRE night with partiers! Loud! Past 0330… where is security! Yelling & screaming! Next day we got up early went to beach, a bit of a hike. (There is a shuttle) we walked. Beach is manually cleaned… felt badly for them… went for breakfast at a different buff. Food was good! Where the beach is. Staff here much much better than at the Coba!! Much better! Met with WestJet rep. Asked him to chat with hotel about warm fridge (my food wasted that I brought) Day 3 here today. Still warm fridge. Still kept awake by LOUD partiers! Annoyed & tired! Where’s the water sports? The paddle boards? Sea kayaks? Anything!?? Kind smiling staff!?? Lots of coral. Sand is harsh. Water is clear & the fish are plenty to look at! Beds are hard. Room is cool not cold with ceiling fan. Not enough towels. Not what we expected. Have been to A LoT of resorts around the world… not impressed here at all!!! Coba is not cool….

Return to Tulum was Amazing!

It's been a long time since I left a review on Trip Advisor. My wife and I have been to the Bahia complex on the Mayan Riviera more than 25 times ( I guess that alone speaks volumes as to our thoughts on this place) It's not like we haven't been to other All Inclusives (Barcelo, VIM, Ocean Turquesa, Princess, Palace Resorts) done quite a few, however we continue to gravitate back to this place. Recently we stayed at Tulum. This being the original of the 4 resorts, now newly renovated (a few years ago), the rooms are the best in the complex (Second only to the new Akumal ongoing renovated rooms) This complex is without a doubt the "Best Bang for your Buck" on the Mayan Coast. While you are limited to only 3 A LA Cartes per week booking, your selection of restaurants is not only magnificent, but diverse. You will want for no more. 24 hour Snack/Drink Bars and Buffets provide flexibility for your dining experience. We are now part of their Loyalty Program that provide some perks, but does not take away from those who would visit for the first time. The staff at this massive complex are it's biggest asset. We have been fortunate enough to meet many outstanding representative of the Bahia Chain and have developed many friendships throughout our visits Congratulations to Alberto Figueroa Ceballos, who was recently promoted to the Dominican Republic Bahia complex. He's going to be a tough act to follow as his personalty, drive and constant concern for his clients is unsurpassed. Alfredo Javier Valdovinos, who is the Customer Care Manager has made our last few visits incredible. I was fortunate enough to visit with 2 other "first time" couples, who thanks to Javier will be returning regularly. In short, this resort has something for everyone, has dining experiences that would cost a fortune in North America, entertainment that is worthy of the stage, and staff that are irreplaceable. Thank you to everyone for providing an atmosphere of hospitality that is unrivaled.

Our family had a wonderful vacation at the Bahia Principe.

I would highly recommend the kids club at this resort. All the stuff were extremely friendly and caring. They did so many fun activities with the kids and truly genuinely seemed to care about them. My son who is six actually cried the night before we were going to leave because he was going to miss the employees at the kids club.

Never again

Would not recommend this resort. The value spent is not worth the value received. There are so many limitations for an all-inclusive experience. The rooms also smelled of mildew and the mini bars and towels were not refreshed as promised. There is a lock on the AC and a person has to come to adjust the temperature for you. The food was not impressive and lacked flavor. Probably great for kids and families only, but not for adults looking for a good time. The drinks were too sweet and the liquor was so cheap. It's difficult to leave the resort as well. Must call taxis that price gouge you and you are stuck with no choice but to use. Truly not worth it.
