Great personnel at Melia Varadero! ¡Excelente personal en Meliá Varadero!

I enjoyed staying at Meliá Varadero with my family of 5 very very much! The personnel is super sweet and kind, always trying to make sure you’re doing well. I especially want to distinguish Sara Girón, who is a very sweet and kind person, always taking care of the guests and always making an effort to make the guests feel comfortable and well taken care of. Also, Nadia Hernandez has been great and welcoming every day when we would go to the restaurant. I would highly commend both of them for their hard work.
A real gem in Cuba !!!

Just returned from a girls trip here . It was our first time to Cuba . We were very nervous to come due to all the bad reviews we had heard regarding Cuba . We are so glad we did and will definitely be back ! We experienced zero shortages at the Melia . Other people we heard had a lot of shortages on some other resorts . We stayed on the second floor , it was clean , beds comfortable , fresh towels daily , plenty of bottled water , 2 beers per day in fridge . No coffee maker , a kettle but we never used it , a blow dryer . Shower was always hot and had great water pressure . The room itself was old and definitely needs updating but they are working their way down by floor to complete all renovated rooms . I would email before your stay to request a renovated room on the 4th floor . We heard the Level floor is worth the extra from all guests we spoke too . The restaurants were ok , Japanese was great . The buffet was plentiful ! Tons and tons of all kinds of food . If you can't find something you like to eat then it's probably a you problem ! We brought ketchup , peanut butter and seasoning salt ( which we left with some staff ) . The 24 hour cafe had the best coffee . Lobby bar was great , definitely no shortages there !! Entertainment was fun !! The entire staff at the Melia were so so kind !! We did see some rudeness by some guests toward some staff . Shame on you . Treat them with the respect and kindness they deserve and you will get it back tenfold ! The only complaint I would have was for the lifeguards , I feel they are not vigilant enough in their job , most are just sitting way at the back of the beach on phones or chatting . We witnessed a man struggling when the waves were bashing him and a staff member who gets your umbrellas ran to help and a guest while lifeguards were oblivious. They should be walking up and down the beach or positioned closer to the water . The current is very very strong , especially on on wavy days . Some special staff that need mentioning are Jenny our maid , always smiling and happy , Roberto and his other Lobby bar staff , Ana and the cooks at the Japanese restaurant , Aldo is in charge of the entertainment , Javier ( manager ? ) so kind and friendly . Our favourite waitress Nudia ( Nulia ?), she was a beautiful kind person. Last but not least Miguel who has been there for 30 years ! He was the sweetest man and deserves nothing but kindness !! Tips ( in US ) are so very appreciated . Do your research before you come on what gifts they love to receive ! They really are grateful for everything ! If you were like us and on the fence about booking the Melia , Don't be , it's great !!
Don’t miss out on this amazing resort!!

This was my first visit to Cuba, and definitely will not be my last!! My friend and I decided to take a girls trip, and we were unsure about choosing Cuba as our destination. Especially after reading so many negative reviews in the past. We settled on Melia Varadero, mostly because of the great rating on Trip Advisor. We are here now, leaving tomorrow morning after an amazing week. Let me list some of the positive features. Quick transfer to hotel from airport. Seamless check in. Clean rooms. We were on the second floor. They have not been renovated yet, like some of the other floors, but still more than sufficient. Air conditioning works well, room was very comfortable all week. Excellent water pressure, and clean towels every day. Two cans of Cristal beer and two large bottles of water in fridge every day. Safe in room, easy to use. The grounds are clean, and easy to get around. Beach very clean, lots of lounge chairs and umbrellas. Pool also has lots of lounge chairs, no need to get up early to “save” chairs. No matter the time of day, always could find somewhere to sit. Lots of different bars, restaurants and cafes. For the A la cartes, you did need to get downstairs by about 9am to secure a reservation for that evening. Staff is so friendly!! The Cuban people are so welcoming! We truly felt like family. Thank you to our maid, Jenny. Lovely smile every time we saw her, and a different towel animal to greet us every day! Javier, always with a friendly hello, and always treating the staff and tourists with respect. Anna at Sakura, so accommodating. Aldo for always keeping us entertained. Roberto and Luis at the Lobby bar. Always ready to make one of their delicious drinks! And we left a piece of our heart in Cuba with Miguel, Nudia, and Osmani at the Buffet. Always greeting us with a smile, and making sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our vacation. Xx There were no shortages at all during our stay. In saying that, remember that Cuba does have supply issues at times. Come here with an open mind, and an open heart. Enjoy all that this wonderful island has to offer. Be kind to the staff, and they will return the kindness to you tenfold! Already planning my next trip back to Melia Varadero. This is not goodbye, but see you later!!????
Great experience, good food and amazing beaches

This resort impressed me a lot. The beach was 10/10, and only 1 day were we unable to go in the water (not the fault of the resort at all). The food was 8.5/10 in my opinion and I am generally a picky eater. There were very few shortages, and nobody in my party went hungry or missed a meal. There was no issues with the basic necessities (bottled water, hot shower, air conditioning). The staff were generally quite pleasant and almost always offered friendly, accommodating service. Aldo and Cristobal especially made the experience even better for my family and I. I highly recommend the pool volleyball with Aldo (AOUUUUUUT). We had dinner at the Internacional and the Japanese and enjoyed both meals a lot. Unfortunately we were unable to return to the Internacional for a second time on Wednesday evening (20th) as the host decided our attire (which was the same as when we dined there 2 nights prior) was unacceptable for the restaurant and refused us entry. This left a sour taste but was not representative of the experience as a whole. Increased attention to consistency in the services and accommodations offered would go a long way to making this already great resort even better. I would absolutely recommend this hotel, or any of the Melia's in Cuba to everyone and I plan to return in the near future to another Melia property, if not this one itself.
great hotel with excellent service

it’s in great position overlooking a private beach and has all the facilities you would want . There is a choice of food from bookable sit down service restaurants ( our favourites were Tex Mex and thanks to juan blanco for his excellent service and also fuerteventura ) and the main buffet area. The food in the buffet area is a mixture of food that’s cooked to order ( grill area where you select your meat / fish /pasta etc and ready prepared ( stews . salads . There was always plenty of choice and while not gourmet certainly something for everyone . We stayed on the “ level “ which is a bit extra but in my opinion worth it . it means you are in rooms on the top floor( best views) with own its own private bar / breakfast area where the drinks are of a much higher standard plus can you get a separate concierge service which can book all the restaurants and anything else you want, big shout out to Idania for all the excellent help she and the rest of the level team (sorry forgot all the names) but they were All incredibly nice and friendly . In fact all the staff from all over the hotel ( cleaners , waiters / bar staff etc were all great ). One small niggle is that they only serve drinks on the beach and pool area in paper cups which i understand but drinks never taste as good from a cup . Many people got around this by bringing own drink flasks which the bar staff are happy to fill up.( my top tip would be to bring one with you ).
