Melia Cayo Santa Maria resort & hotel was a beautiful resort for my first time in Cuba. It’s wonderful hotel, well located and peaceful. The staff is simply amazing and go beyond expectation. The entertainment staff keeps you smiling, cooks do their best to make each meal one that you’ll love and the coffee/bar waiters are super nice. Here are the pro’s and con’s : PRO’s : - Beautiful hotel (clean and spacious rooms with balcony) - Ocean water is a superb blue and clear (can walk far on the beach, visiting other resorts on the way) - Two big and clean pools - Buffet is good (you’ll notice the same food items coming back very quickly, but you’ll always manage to find something, must be a little creative sometimes... like slicing up prosciutto into little piece to add it to your pasta cooked in a pan in front of you). - Snack bar is delicious (they have pizza and poutine which is totally amazing any hour of the day). - Walking area is vast and brings you pretty far. - Night shows are spectacular, especially the one where the man dancing and the aqua show. - Board games and reading material available. - Good coffee (I mean latte, cappuccinos and specialized coffees) - Friendly staff (from the cooks at the buffet, entertainment and waiters at the coffee/bar). CON’s - As much as it’s a good location (once at the hotel), the bus ride from airport to the hotel can be long.... more or less 1h30 depending on Cuban traffic - Specialized restaurants isn’t wow as it’s mostly the same food you’ll find at the buffet. This being said, my family and I didn’t get to try all of them as they were closed (due to the season) or lack of time. - Lack of fresh towel available. Had to keep the same towel for two day twice during my entire stay. I tipped a peso or two for each service (coffee or drink brought to me, waiters at the buffet, cleaning staff for tidying up our room). It would always put a giant smile on their faces and you can see that they are truly grateful and would go beyond they way to help you out. Overall, wonderful time in Cuba for a first timer. Enjoy :)

We have been to this lovely resort 5 times. Each occasion has been above and beyond our expectations. So important to us are the people working at this resort. They are warm, friendly and always so helpful. Many tourists could learn from their example about being patient and hospitable. Thank you many times for all the people we have encountered. It was been our pleasure! The resort itself is nice and small; making everything easy to access. I would like to see all of the lanterns working alongside the walkways. It would make it so much safer when walking at night. The entertainment is wonderful; especially the musicians around the dinner hour and in the evening. We enjoy the buffet since there is always something to eat. The waiters and waitresses work hard to serve you with a smile. We also very much enjoyed the specialty restaurants. Very creative and tasty menus. The employees at the bars are friendly and hard working. Please, be sure to tip ALL of the workers! This is a crucial part of their salary and it will make a world of difference to these lovely people. Although no travel is allowed at this time; this resort will be our first place to visit once the aircraft fly to this region. I hope and pray that all of our friends and their families are staying healthy. We are thinking of you and can't wait to see you again. Virtual hugs to all of you!

Two weeks enjoying Cuba’s Melia Santa Maria’s lovely beach and pools, gorgeous gardens, delicious food and drinks, a comfortable room, while meeting super friendly and helpful staff inside and outside, gave us a wonderful vacation, and a longing to return again soon.

    Enjoyable stay.

It was our first experience of an all-inclusive resort and we enjoyed it. The food was good quality for Cuba and the service efficient and friendly. The room was very pleasant and the grounds were well kept. The pool was good and there were plenty of loungers available. It was right next to the beach, which was glorious.

Have just returned from this hotel after visiting with friends celebrating birthday and anniversary dates. The only thing good about this holiday was the sun!! Whilst the hotel was in a beautiful setting it was let down by poor customer service, tired accommodation, mostly indifferent staff, poor communication, especially in the current Covid 19 situation! One shining light was the service provided by receptionist Adrianna on our last evening there, she should be promoted to Customer Service Manager immediately!! The two customer service managers we dealt with Claudio and Yoan left a lot to be desired! I believe the whole staff except for Adrianna should be sent to Melia Cayo Coco to see how a hotel should be run, as my two previous visits there were excellent! When Cuba reopens don’t go to Melia Cayo Santa Maria!!
