    Amazing Hotel, Even Better Staff

This is a new account so I had to re write my review! This is such an amazing resort with the friendliest of staff. Food is really quite good. We went at Christmas and it was an amazing feed of slow fire roasted bull, pig and all the other helpings in between. The staff is where this hotel truly shines. I’ve made true genuine friends that I keep in touch with to this day. Jorge from the entertainment team is the pride and joy of this resort. He is the friendliest, nicest, most welcoming person I have ever met. He went above and beyond to ensure our stay was nothing more than amazing. Truly owe so much to him for an amazing experience. Mario was our waiter, and he also went above and beyond. They truly make you feel not only like guests, but like family. On top of this, a beautiful beach, great views from the rooms and so many fun activities to do at night and throughout the day. 10/10, highly recommend.

The positive: nice hotel, very large complex, golf carts that drop you off at your building, good spa at a reasonable price, several swimming pools and restaurants, easy access to the beach, all inclusive ... Now the negative: Food/drinks: horrible food in the restaurants (except for the lobster) so it's better to eat at the buffet which is good; the cocktails are not good. The rooms: spacious but one of the rooms' door handle didn't work so you could come in without a key, the phones didn't work ... and lots of ROACHES which forced us at almost midnight to walk to the reception (due to no phone) to demand a change of room. The rude receptionist pretended not to understand the issue and made us believe that she was sending someone in 15 minutes to take care of the roaches. Back at the reception after 30 minutes, the employee had left (of course), but luckily her colleagues were pleasant and gave us new rooms. So we had to move very quickly around midnight, in our pajamas and with all the suitcases, but at least we slept in a good room with a working phone and without roaches (well...until the morning of the checkout). I think some rooms should not be allocated if they are infected with roaches and faulty and the hotel could do a pest control check up because we even saw a roach in the buffet room on the last day.

the hotel is not one of the most modern in cayo santa maria, but it has good customer service and good entertainment. The hotel has 4 pools, two of them very calm and relaxing. the rooms are not very spacious but are clean and comfortable. the hotel has a very good variety of food and drinks, it's an excellent hotel for your vacation in cuba

    It's a dump.

Room was dirty with rusty fausets falling off.Food was lousy and very limited. The beach was nice and that is the only good thing about this resort. Staff was good and changed our room right away but overall the whole resort needs a facelift. I wouldn't recommend this resort at all.

Beautiful beach and most excellent hostess Elaine!

We were 35 ladies at Playa Cayo Santa Maria for several milestone birthdays, including my mother's 80th, so I was very worried; even though most of us are seasoned travelers, the group also included several high maintenance ladies. One of the best parts of my trip was connecting with Elaine. She's a customer service representative on site and bends over backwards to accommodate her guests. She makes you feel like family, and is there to take care of you! She was able to book two reservations for a la carte restaurants for our ENTIRE large group(!!), including arranging for a cake at one restaurant where we celebrated my mother's birthday. It was so incredible and thoughtful of her...I didn't even ask for this, she decided to do this, then dropped by late that night to wish my mother a happy birthday! Besides this she took care of individual reservations for smaller groups at other restaurants, and honestly made our stay perfect, OFTEN going beyond expectations. She managed our stay BEAUTIFULLY and I cannot say GRACIAS enough Elaine. I was so impressed with her attention to detail and patience that I'd go back to any hotel where she works, as I honestly believe that service like that shouldn't be taken for granted, and I've yet to be that impressed with service at an all-inclusive. I'd also like to say that for the most part the staff at this resort are excellent. Special thank you also to the servers on the beach and bartenders at the beach bar, Julio (from Caibarien) who took us on daily catamaran rides (which are free - just tip), Reinier at the snack shack at lunch (who served us by the pool) - he was so incredible keeping track of what everyone ordered and going beyond expectations to make our stay perfect), and Katarina at the sandwich bar at the beach. It really is the people who make a vacation memorable, and these folks did not disappoint! They truly are amazing! An added bonus at this resort is the most incredible beach I've ever been on, white sand that goes out until you can no longer touch bottom, CRYSTAL blue water, it looked like a skating rink the first day we were there, it was so calm, and as it got rougher near the end of our stay we were able to pick one of 8 pools to lounge by for a couple days. I liked the fact that the entertainment team stuck to one area, so if you were in the mood for that type of engagement, you could participate, and if not, you could pick one of many locations to lounge. There was enough choice of sun and shade at every pool and at the beach, which was also great. The food was good and if you need your spices and peanut butter then please don't travel! Every day in the buffet there are fresh fruit smoothies to order, omelet stations, fried rice stations (pick your meats and veg and get it made on the spot), pasta stations, pizza stations, and the usual buffet items. Pick a couple of a la carte restos (we went to Romantico and Panda Rojo and really enjoyed both), as well as pay extra Cuban restaurant. We enjoyed all our meals. There was also the 24 hour snack shack which served descent Margherita pizza all night, and chicken fingers at lunch. We never went hungry, and we never got sick. Hanging out in the lobby at night was so much fun, with the specialty coffee cart as a nice treat to end each meal. It was such an excellent spot to just lounge around with family and friends after each incredible day. We enjoyed the shows after dinner - the dancers were great to watch, and we loved the cigar bar which doubled as a night club later at night, where the dancers showed up to make sure everyone was having a great time. Great place to dance to some hot Spanish tunes, with a DJ who takes requests as well! Although our rooms were clean and stocked anytime we asked for anything, some of the common areas could use a more regular cleaning. I'm sure with high season it was likely hard to find the time to do more, but sweeping each night when the buffet closes, especially at server stations, could go a long way to improve the overall appeal of the dining hall. I didn't feel this was a huge issue but one area that could be addressed. Finally, another bonus is that not far from this resort is a market, and you can get antique cabs to take you there from the hotel for a small fee. The crafts, swimsuit covers, hats, and jewelry are decently priced. All around I was really impressed with this resort and would easily give it 5 stars, most importantly given the incredible hospitality (Elaine, Reinier, Julio, Katarina and the beach bar and servers). Muchos gracias Elaine!!
