    Unforgettable Luau??

Our Hawaiian vacation to this island is everything I imagined and one of our bucket list’s is to attend a Luau.....a traditional Lu’au. The Courtyard by Marriott King Kamehameha’s Kona beach hotel gave that experience in offering a Luau to their guests’ and anyone who would like to attend this extravaganza. Not only did they provide traditional Hawaiian dances, but everything from the beginning to end was done to perfection! Our Luau began at 530pm, however I recommend arriving much earlier as a line quickly develops and to find parking (take your parking ticket In to be validated) will assure closer seating to the stage. Although I can honestly say the arrangement of seating guarantee’s great viewing from any angle. Once at the front of the line, your greeted with an option to buy a Lei or Beads to wear. Then you’ll be directed to take a photo which is another option to purchase as a souvenir. At this time you’ll be escorted to the lawn area where we found an open bar, the removal of the Luau pig from the fire pit, demonstrations of how to do the Hula dance to a hands on drumming session and finally welcoming of the King Kamehameha and his entourage. After being seated at the table we were treated to a marvelous “all you can eat” dinner that had everything to choose from no matter your diet choice. The entertainment of the band and dancers graced the stage with their amazing, but masterful performances along with some narration of how the Hawaiian people came to be. This Luau was well organized, which kept the audience captivated to the end. Be sure to wear your best Hawaiian attire, I promise the evening well be worth the memories you’ll take with you to last a life time.

I have stayed at the hotel before and found this visit as good as it gets. A warm welcome when checking in, amazingly friendly and warm housekeeping personnel, and well-maintained and supplied room. I have looked at other reviews -- perhaps significant is I always reserve an oceanfront room with balcony. Otherwise, the view of the bay is limited (at best) and appears dissatisfying for many. Yes, you pay a premium for the oceanfront rooms, but they are worth the money if you want to see the ocean and the activity around the bay. My sense is most rooms are essentially the same, except for location. I can't speak to people who felt rooms needed updating because the rooms I have stayed in over the past several years have all been more than fine. Items may not be brand new, but everything in my experience has been clean and functional. I will definitely return. In my opinion this is the best option for those wanting to stay in Kona Village, and prices are not out for line when compared to properties that are nearby and rundown and in disrepair.

Stayed here for a conference. The conference coordinators and staff are excellent and the conference rooms were perfect for our needs. Catering was right on-time and food was excellent. Our hotel room was in dire need of renovation. Water stains on the popcorn ceilings, thin carpet, tiny bathroom needing new grouting. Uncomfortable bed and sofa. We were located close to the building fan which was so loud you couldn't sit on the deck to enjoy the weather or sleep at night. When we asked to be moved, we were told the hotel was completely sold out so front desk staff provided two complimentary breakfast buffet coupons instead. The hotel does provide some extras such as complimentary bottled water daily and some complimentary drink tickets for the on-site restaurants as well as beach chair rentals for its very small beach. It does have a terrific location right in the heart of town.

The check in process was quick, the staff were helpful, and it was about what you would expect for a Courtyard Marriott. The hotel was older, and there are a very limited number of ocean view rooms. The partial view (which we had) overlooked the roof, a sliver of the ocean, and the pool. For the price, the location alone was worth it.

We stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel for several nights in early January 2020 during our trip to the Big Island. PRO's: The hotel is very well located for many activites-shopping, restaurants, Kona Bay pier, etc. Further, the staff was very accommodating and friendly. They tried very hard to please us and asked us what they could do to make our visit great. CON's. The hotel is old. We needed an ADA compliant room and they initially gave us a partial ocean view ADA room in the west building that had not been updated. The bathroom area had paint chips and most of the grout in the shower area was missing. Furniture was tired. The next morning we showed the staff photos of our bathroom area and they acknowledged the problem with an offer to move us to a renovated ADA room in the east wing. The room was much nicer and though it lacked an ocean view, we moved. The staff advised us before we moved that the room backed onto the elevator shaft and that you could hear the elevators vibrating in the shaft from this room. Apparently several of their ADA rooms on the east wing back onto the elevator shaft. It didn't keep us from sleeping and the staff clearly advised us of the issue before we changed rooms. We still preferred the new room to the older room. However, you should be aware of this issue if you need an ADA room. Our rating reflects a combined excellent for location and service but a much lower rating for the quality of the rooms.
