This was my 7th trip to Jamaica and my 4th to Iberostar Rose Hall. 2 times at the Grand and this was the 2nd stay at Suites. Myself, daughter, SIL, and 2 grandkids. We stayed a week and enjoyed it until the end. All week I took notes so I could write a good review and we even started talking about our trip for next year. However, an incident on the night before we left has left us shocked and truly unsure if we'll visit again. I am interested in how the resort will respond to my review. I'll explain the incident and then tell you how most of the week went. About 11:15pm on Friday night there was a disturbance - make that FIGHT - in the main lobby. We had rooms on the 4th floor and we heard it and went to the 4th floor lobby to investigate. My SIL was in the lobby bar with friends. Two groups of people started fighting in the lobby, apparently someone from one group stole a cell phone from a member of the other group. The yelling and shouting could be heard from the 4th floor (the main lobby is open to the top, 4th floor). There was pushing, shoving, and fists between the 2 groups and this moved around the entire lobby area. My SIL was just able to escape out of the lobby and up the stairs before it overtook a group of other guests. This lasted for over 30 minutes. There was a security guard in the lobby that made no effort to stop or control the melee or apparently to call for any kind of backup. The front desk and other employees disappeared when this started. When researching Jamaica you see where they say to stay out of certain areas - not safe for tourists, but we have never felt this unsecure, scared, and frankly shocked at Iberostar Rose Hill. You pay a lot of money to stay here and expect a certain amount of safety and not to be afraid. That safe feeling was totally ruined a few hours before we left and as much as we love this place and have enjoyed it multiple times I'm not sure we'd feel good returning. Now, before that here is my review for the first part of the week. First off, I just hold the people that work at this resort in my heart and prayers. Covid has hit the resort workers hard and Jamaica doesn't have the social programs to help like here in the US. They work so hard to ensure that the visit is total pleasure. Several of our favorites from previous years weren't back to work yet - My grandkids were sad Pineapple wasn't back to work yet! Iberostar Rose Hall is 3 resorts in one - Grand, Suites, and Beaches. Suites was the only one open while we were there. The resort was only about 30% capacity during the week, but jumped to 90% over the weekend we left. It was a Jamaican holiday we were told. It was so nice during the week. There was always a beach chair, always a pool chair. The pool and beach service was quick and fast, much different than when the resort is near capacity! The food truck never ran out!!!! They spoiled us nicely! Restaurants and buffets were scaled down. The food at this resort is the best I've ever had at an all inclusive - this year included. BUT, in years past it was extravagant, this year just good. The main buffet was closed during the week and that was disappointing as Aunt Ruby's, while good, just didn't have the variety and is not air conditioned. At the buffet you are served by staff instead of serving yourself. It is well staffed and this system works well. We enjoyed all the ala cart restaurants. Menus somewhat limited, but the food was good and presented well. Covid sanitation is huge at the resort. I felt good that things were so well sanitized and all employees wore masks and were conscience of the standards and protocols. However, about mid-week several of the hand sanitizer stations were out and weren't filled until Friday. A few afternoons during the week the bar by the pool ran out of things on different days: tequila, straws, lime juice, one afternoon it ran out of all alcohol except for Red Stripe beer! The lobby bar and restaurants were all fine and well stocked. We missed the nightly shows. They did have shows on the weekend, on the beach, and those were good. They had other things scheduled, but they weren't executed so that was a little disappointing. The weekend at the club was not covid friendly and people didn't seem to follow standards or protocols - no masks, no social distancing. We avoided the Blue Moon on weekend. Another change, that I understand, but don't think it's well thought out enough, is that they no longer provide water in the mini-fridge. They provide 2 large, heavy, glass bottles to fill at the end of each hall at a water filling station. These bottles are not appropriate to carry to the beach or the pool, and they will bring you water at the beach or the pool, but I missed carrying my water bottle with me and the convenience it provided. Kids club was closed, but they took families, one at a time, for crafts and fun, in the area behind the towel station. My grandkids had a good time and looked forward to their time everyday. They made several nice crafts and had lots of fun. Room service was dismal this year. The menu has been cut way back and no drinks are offered. Everything was timely though. In years past it sometimes took hours to get anything. This year also, they were really pushing time shares. I mean pushing. Multiple calls a day, calls before 8:00am. This has never been a problem before this year. The rooms are spacious, and although showing wear and tear, I've never had anything but a clean, nice room. Linens and towels are quality. Beds and pillows are good for the Caribbean. I realize this sounds negative, but most of this is changes because of covid. We truly enjoyed our stay until the last night. The pool, the beach, the staff, the food make this our favorite in Jamaica. I hope the response to my review can assure us of a safe stay next year.

Customer service was beyond my expectations. From the security post I felt welcomed. While checking in the staff was helpful and they made my group felt special. Its covid season and i felt so safe. They cleaned non-stop (I liked that). Even just walking around the hotel the staff were so nice. And food is to die for. Everything was delicious! I'm so in love with this hotel I will definitely go back.

There were lovely aspects of this hotel and there were some things I didn’t care for and thought it was worth mentioning! First as far as the hotel itself and handling the Covid and making us feel safe, I’d give them an A+. Upon arrival your temp is checked and everything is sanitized etc. At every elevator there’s sanitizer attached next to the button ( which was pretty cool) and at the entrance of every restaurant they also required you take a squirt of sanitizer. All the staff had on their mask 24/7! We were traveling all the way from Las Vegas w 1yr old and 4yr old celebrating our 10yr anniversary and our son’s 4th bday. Bc we arrived a lil early our room wasn’t ready so the front desk rep told us to come back after we had lunch. Which we did and it was in fact ready. Finally getting to the room was a sigh of relief. Upon entering the room we noticed they had a Happy anniversary sash across the door. Once we entered the room we noticed a bottle of champagne and 2 flutes which was really thoughtful. So after all that we pretty much glazed over everything else and went right out to the patio w the beautiful ocean view! BUT after coming back inside the room my husband went into the bathroom and that is when he found a couple of used Q-tips laying next to the tub! Now I don’t know who, what or how housekeeping could have missed this but it was pretty upsetting that we had a lil one and the idea that she could have got a hold of it and picked it up! Especially in the middle of a pandemic. So my husband called down to front desk and explained to them what he found, she apologized and sent someone up to clean and sanitize the whole bathroom. After that ordeal all we wanted to do was take a shower and get ready for dinner. That’s when after 3 mins in the shower the drain became clogged and flooded over onto the floor. I had to wait until all the water drained out before I could even take my shower. After dinner my husband stopped by front desk to inform them about the shower incident. But no one came to fix it. It wasn’t until the next day when housekeeping came and he explained why every towel was sprawled across the floor and she then turned on the shower to see for herself that she then called it in and someone came to fix it! After it was fixed someone did call and ask if I was in fact fixed. So we did get off to a rocky start and not once we asked we asked if we wanted to move to another room. Other than a few cracks here and there the room was functional. I felt housekeeping either came too early or too late.. it seem like we were always there when she came. And for all inclusive the I’m room mini bar was pretty limited THE FOOD — the selection was a lil disappointing. We stayed Sun -Fri and ate breakfast and lunch at Mrs Ruby’s as the main buffet was closed( the only option). The food wasn’t all that and became very repetitive. The one spot the never disappointed was the food truck which served jerk chicken, burgers and fries and we ate there everyday! The steakhouse was the most disappointing. The empanadas was lukewarm and my ribeye was tough. And they had all these cats walking around coming under the table. My son was screaming out mommy the cat crying lol. If you did not have reservations for the night you were left w ordering room service which only served burgers, pizzas, fries and wraps. The best experience we did have was at the Mediterranean restaurant. Everything from the food and service was perfect. There was a guy who was out front who might have been maybe the manger bc he was inside/ outside.. he was everywhere but he was also helping our sever. He came over and conversed w our 4yr and asked if he wanted something special which he wanted a pizza a fries. Everything was lovely there. The service at the Oriental restaurant was good but once again the food just ok. It wasn’t until the day that we were leaving that the actual buffet was open and we got to have breakfast there before checking out! Overall the property itself is very well kept, the pool area is cool and the beach area is also nice! We loved the lifeguard on duty at the post. My 4 yr old also loved the water park area he had all to himself.
