For a business conference ok. Personal no way!

Can’t possibly give more than 3 out of 5. First off the hotel is very dated. At at the Stone Grill - very average. In the room there is no mini bar, fridge, coffee, tea etc. How can a hotel claim to be 5 star when either 1) they don’t even trust the clientele with a mini bar or 2) they are so large they can’t manage the overheads of administering it. Either way - this is definitely not a hotel to come to for a holiday or personal trip. I would be sooo disappointed. Business conference venue perhaps - all indications is that is what the main audience. So many lovely places to go for a personal trip....this is not it. P

Great for conferences not as much for family vacations.

We tagged along with my husband when he attended a work conference at the Desert Ridge. The conference meeting space was great and he said everything was well done. However, the resort was a little too spread out and difficult to navigate for the family. We were on the very end of one building so it was a crazy long walk to the pool, restaurants, and even the laundry that was located on our floor (that was a very nice amenity thought). Whenever we walked to the pool, we had to walk all the way to the lobby and had to walk by all of the conference attendees in our pool wear. The resort also had some events planned for kids throughout the week, but we tried to attend multiple events that were apparently cancelled without notification/no staff was there. We enjoyed the resort restaurants, the lazy river, and the vicinity to the shopping plaza across the street. This was not a bad experience, just would not be my favorite pick for a family vacation.

Spent three nights at this resort, and everything exceeded my expectations. The room was good, the food was great, the atmosphere and environment were outstanding, the service was over the top!! And, the fitness center was large and very well furnished!

Friendly service, dated and worn decor, bad value

I should start by saying that this score is primarily about value - there are simply dozens of better ways to spend less than what it costs to stay here and have a better experience, in the Phoenix area alone. The good: lush, well kept ground, spacious and comfortable common areas, very friendly staff. The bad: dated decor, little to no charm, rooms past useful life, countless blemishes and inattention to small details. In short, this feels like a resort mega-complex designed by a corporation 15 years ago that hasn’t been updated since. I’m not convinced it would have felt charming and “high design” then; it certainly doesn’t now. The rooms are adequate but show an embarrassing degree of wear - scuffed carpets and baseboards, and not a single piece of furniture in our room that didn’t have multiple significant marks, stains, scratches, holes and other signs of substantial wear. I’m generally a fan of Marriott - quality is usually consistent and I like some of their experiments with other brands (like AC) - this one, however, is a big stain on their reputation. It appears that the property was just purchased by a new group - hopefully they can make the investments needed to revitalize the guest experience.

From the moment you enter the towering main lobby and see the view you know you are in a good place. Aside from the delicious banquet fare and the spacious guests rooms, The JW Marriott Desert Ridge has heart and it comes from every friendly employees. Thoroughly enjoyable stay!
