Pre-COVID 7 night stay. This resort has potential, but did not really stand out in any way other than the beach section. It also didn't help matters that they had active construction going on at one of the buildings close to the pool, which made it less than pleasant to be at the pool due to the very audible construction noise. This was not disclosed on their website at any point in time before our trip. Very quiet resort for the most part. Overall this resort did not meet the expectations that we had based on prior stays at other Iberostar properties. Read below for the details. Positives - Beautiful grounds. Very clean. The ocean was super clear with shallow entry, and basically 0 waves for the duration of our stay. Very nice light house beach bar. The resort has a beach area that's nicer than most other resorts in the Bayahibe region. They did Paella on the beach on a couple of occasions, which is a nice touch. Good animation at the beach. We liked the beach party, the foam party, and the white party in the lobby. Not so positive - Food was objectively average for a resort at this price point. The buffet did not have many quality items for breakfast and lunch and selection was almost the same every day. A bit better for dinner, but not what I expected given my stay at other Iberostar properties in Punta Cana and Mexico. The specialty restaurants were decent but not outstanding. We tried the Gourmet, Mexican, and Steakhouse. They had name brand spirits, but nothing high end. The lighthouse beach bar seemed understaffed. Very few people using the pool due to construction, so the beach felt packed, although they had plenty of loungers. Very little service outside of restaurants and bars. You don't even have bottled water in your room. They give you reusable bottles that you have to refill in the hallway multiple times per day. Resort is basically dead at night other than the couple of nights where they had theme parties. They had live music in the lobby a couple of evenings. After the resort show at the theater was over, there was basically nothing to do. Disco was dead. Other thoughts - Rooms seemed updated, but were on the smaller side. If you are an English speaker, very few staff here speak English, and the majority of guests are Spanish speakers as well. Most of the activities are ran in Spanish (unlike Punta Cana). There is a manmade snorkeling reef on the edge of the swimming area with lots of fish to see.

I don't know what happen but when we did go previously (2017 - 2016 - 2015) we had very good services and people were warm and very helpful. This time the services in general was cold except from some individuals that help to pass the vacation with more fun. None of the people that I know from my previous experience was there. Did not get like previously my invitation from returning guest. No more themes at the buffet like before. The animation on the beach is not starting a the same time everyday. Nearly no more service at the beach. For me this hotel is not a 4.5 or 5 stars but only 4 stars.

    Another great vacation

We previous visited IHD in 2017, and decided to return. We were not disappointed. The food is excellent, the beach is beautiful, the grounds are immaculate . Check in was fast and easy. We were in building 6, rooms were great, cleaned everyday, although we spent very little time in them?? We are beach folks and spent our 8 days mostly on the beach. Shout out to Carlos who kept us hydrated on the beach. Yuan the bartender makes excellent dirty monkeys. Maury in the dining room was always waiting for us with a smile. This hotel is top notch and you will not be disappointed. Everyone works hard to keep the guests happy and full. Definitely brush up on your spanish??

    awesome as usual

We stayed here 3 times in the past, the last time being in October 2019. This past February we decided to stay at the Iberostar Grand Hotel in Bavaro. We took a day trip back to The Hacienda Dominicus to see how the renovations looked and to say hi to some 'old friends' who worked there. We want to personally thank the I.H.D. assistant manager for providing us with a day pass. Upon our arrival and to my surprise, Francisco, who worked at the front desk remembered us from our October trip! He remembered that we were looking to upgrade our room to the ocean front suite! I was stunned that he even remembered the details. At the beach, Jan the bartender at the lighthouse also remembered us (and our son who traveled with us the last time) He is such a pleasant person, always smiling. One waiter on the beach also stopped us and remembered that we were there previously (he waited on us back in October). My only disappointment is that I did not see Wilkins, the omelette maker at the main buffet. He made the best omelette ever! (even better then omelettes made at the Grand) I wanted to say hi, unfortunately he was off that day. I couldn't believe that after seeing thousands of guests, some of the staff remembered us. These guys are great! I own a business in the USA and wish I could find employees with such memory and attentiveness! As for the hotel the renovations, they were coming along nicely, what was finished looked spectacular. The beach restaurant is now open, the rotisserie chicken station they added is awesome! With regards to the food (variety and quantity), tropical feel of the grounds, quality of service from the staff and personal attention to detail, we have to say that in all these categories, Hacienda Dominicus exceeds that of the Grand Hotel, which is Iberostar's flagship property in the Dominican Republic. Upon arriving back at the Grand, we went online the next day and booked that upgraded oceanfront room were looking at in building 7 back in October, we will be returning next October 10th! amigo's! ;) and we cannot wait! Keep up the great work Hacienda Dominicus! we count the days until we return to our second home....we will see you all soon! :)

We just returned from the Iberostar Selection Hacienda Dominicus and was very impressed with the entire resort. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The food and drinks are also very good. The nice sandy beach was amazing. The highlight of our trip was being able to see the fish just off the shore.
