Wonderful Japantown location! Lobby/bar and general decor is very stylish in a kind of artsy, hip urban way. Not your average hotel. Breakfast was somewhat minimal but high quality. Found it thoughtful that an umbrella was in the room. I did appreciate having a small Keurig in room as well as the nice strong coffee pods.. there was a tiny balcony with door that opens as well (a screen would’ve been great, though). Rooms felt a little minimalist but were tastefully decorated with interesting art. Delicious, authentic ramen directly across the street!

An excellent business hotel in beautiful Japantown, Hotel Kabuki pulled through. I was in town for work and found Kabuki to be a great place to call home for the two nights I was there. I had a deluxe corner room with a great view. There was plenty of light, the bed was very comfortable, and the shower had great pressure. There were a couple of small oddities, but overall, my room fit the bill. I made use of the gym both mornings and enjoyed the great lobby vibes while preparing a presentation with my colleague. A highlight was using the hotel’s bikes to travel to the nearby neighborhood restaurants. There are tons of great options within walking (or biking) distance including State Bird Provisions, Izakaya Kou and Jane’s Cafe - each well worth the visit if you ask me. As others have mentioned, the only thing that’s less than ideal is the amenities fee. It honestly does feel excessive but nothing to whine about. Would certainly recommend Hotel Kabuki for a clean, safe and fun stay in SF.

Interesting commentary on the insidious amenity fee.

In response to the Hotel manager's answer about the amenity fee, call me old fashioned but I thought the cost of staying at the hotel would include such things in the room cost. Or if such services were desired, they would be charged a la carte, per use. I'm not on board with the unwarranted application of an amenity fee. ( i put in this month for the travel date as I couldn't save this response without it. )

Wonderful linens and mattress make for a restful night's rest. Rooms have everything you need yet are pared down to the beauty of Japanese simplicity. The lobby is like the large great room you always wanted with plenty of comfortable seating and it feels comfortable to just hang out there. The art collection, decoration, and the huge art and Californiana library makes it tempting to just stay in, read, and have a cocktail. Japantown and nearby Fillmore neighborhoods are delightful with a ton of eating and shopping options. A movie theater just down the street. The service in the hotel is top-notch and friendly too. I never felt intruded upon. I've seen a lot of the world, stayed in hundreds of hotels and never experienced a concept hotel as cool as this. And it's pet friendly. I checked out yesterday and wish I could be back there today.

We just returned from a weekend at the Kabuki. First the good, the location is great-- it's right in Japan Town and actually attached to the mall. Landscape is authentic Japanese, the lobby is really cool and groovy and has lots of people hanging out. The bar was nice (pricey but good). The cons: Room was small and non-descript-- very simple and bland. No water bottles or extras. I would also echo other reviews about the hidden "service amenities". They charge $37 for wifi and water-- added automatically. The water is a spicket in the lobby and you need your own bottle. Valet parking was $57. The coffee machine was broken so I went to the breakfast area and it was $5 for a simple plain coffee in a paper cup. They are trying to make up revenue with these extra costs which is pretty annoying.
