This was our first time to Cuba and we were very excited but a little apprehensive. We had booked almost a year in advance and had done a lot of research beforehand which was very helpful. We arrived by private taxi and received a warm welcome by the porter. The reception was quiet as we arrived before the coach but we were taken to the select desk for check in and given a glass of bubbly which was a lovely start to our holiday. Damares checked us in, she was very helpful and a lovely lady. We made it to our room on the 9th floor which was lovely. We stayed in a select ocean view room, the view was fantastic!! There was a bottle of bubbly and a plate of fruit waiting for us as well as beer, cola and water in the fridge. The room had air con which is a huge bonus, walking into the room after a day by the pool or on the beach was fantastic. Our room had a Bluetooth speaker which unfortunately disconnected after every song played so we didn’t use it any more. The bathroom was well equipped with a walk in shower. The shower had great pressure which we were so happy about. The toilet and wall next to it needed a better clean but we were happy to let that go. There was a hairdryer which was great and a shaver point which allowed us to charge our toothbrushes. We had maid service every day. They were all so lovely, not only making the bed and sweeping, cleaning, tidying and replenishing the fridge but also surprising us each day with towel sculptures. We also had a turn down service in the evening with yet more towel sculptures and fresh towels if needed. The hotel itself is spectacular! There is plenty of seats to relax and take some time out from the sun whilst connecting to the WiFi via an internet card that you purchase from reception for 1cuc that gives you 1 hour, which you can use over separate sessions as long as you turn your WiFi off. We found the WiFi very disappointing and so our holiday allowed us to have a break from social media. The lobby bar is a great place to chill any time of the day. The staff work so hard and are great at there job. The coffee is particularly good. Food at the Blau is great too. We found something to enjoy each day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The waiting staff are great at welcoming and keeping you happy. We had many conversations with the staff, they are all so helpful. There is also an a la carte restaurant and an Italian both of which you are allowed 1 visit to per week staying. However we were in a select room so that allowed us to use these restaurants as many times as we liked. They were both nice. I liked the a la carte restaurant, it was air conditioned, there was musicians playing lovely music and the food was great. My husband preferred the Italian which was set up in the lunchtime restaurant. In both these restaurants you can purchase bottles of wine but you can also have all inclusive drinks. The pool area was lovely with plenty of sunbeds. The pool was a refreshing break from the heat of the sun. Around the outside of the pool is garden areas which has sunbeds too and plenty of shade. The walk to the beach is along a wooden walkway which needs a little attention but is a wonderful walk. The beach is AMAZING!! The ocean is so clear and warm. We frequently used the Bali beds which you have to book in advance at reception and pay a supplement 10 or 15cuc. It was very worth the 15cuc as those beds have a great comfortable mattress. There was a small bar on the beach were the guy also serves at the beds. There is a bar at the beach which serves 24 hours. If you spend the day at the beach you can have lunch here rather than go back to the hotel. They also provide snacks all day, the cheese toasties are great! We only had lunch here once as the burger wasn’t cooked very well. But it’s the best place to go after an evening of drinking for a cheese toastie! The Animation team were the highlight of our holiday! They were all so friendly and helpful. The activities they provide all through the day and evening by the pool, in the pool and on the beach are good fun. We loved this holiday to Cuba and especially to the Blau Varadero. We do hope to return one day.

Returning to Blau Varadero great as usual!!

I went back with my sister for the 8 th time and as always this hotel never ceases to amaze me. The hotel is welcoming, great service, food, restaurants and cleanliness. If you go say hi to Rocio she sits in the lobby where you make your restaurant reservation. She is a lovely person with an amazing character. She goes out of her way to help you and make your stay a very pleasant one. We had the opportunity of meeting the new hotel manager Ramone. He is a wonderful person to know and talk with. Of course the beach is always beautiful. I recommend this hotel.

The attention at details was perfect, wonderful, never seen before here in Cuba, I congratulate the hotel authorities for their kindness and their careful attention to us that was always attentive to our requirement. The hotel has balinese beds all over the place including the private beach and having my cocktail laying on those put the icing on the cake. We will repeat if we ever come back to Cuba, and I surely recommend Blau Varadero to everyone going on vacation to the Caribbean.

Stayed here for 3 nights all inclusive in Feb this year with my husband. To be honest we don’t usually choose all-inclusives but we had a great time here and it was a really good way of winding down after a hectic tour of Cuba and 5 days in Havana. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and even though we hadn’t tipped at the start (we always tip at the end) we found the staff were all friendly, helpful and attentive especially at the pool bar refilling drinks, at reception helping us organise a lift back to Havana airport on one of the transfer buses (25cuc as opposed to the 100cuc taxi), at the beach bar making toasties and cocktails and the lobby bar serving cocktails and coffee. Housekeeping were great and buffet staff great too always so amenable and busy. The location is fab with gardens leading right onto the beach via wooden walkways through the trees. The beach is fantastic and the hotel has its own private beach area with copious amounts of sun beds and friendly attendants helping you set up. There is a beach bar that keeps you topped up with refreshments and snacks in case you get hungry between meals! The pool is lovely (and spotless) with plenty of loungers and there are also loungers set up amongst the trees throughout the garden area if you wanted a bit of piece and quiet. There seemed to be no shortage of loungers, so no mad scramble at dawn and you didn’t feel you had to stay in the same area all day or lose your place, we freely moved from pool to beach to garden throughout the day and always found a lounger. The aforementioned gardens are lovely and well kept and everywhere is clean and well maintained. There are a lot of sea based activities with scuba diving and snorkelling trips available at an extra charge, unfortunately while we were there the sea was too rough for any activities except swimming but the swimming was great with lovely waves rolling in. The animation isn’t too overpowering and can easily be avoided if required - and there is nightly entertainment too for those that wish it but as stated we were here to relax and chill and didn’t partake in either (we had had our “animation” in Havana!). The interior of the hotel is very impressive with a large interior atrium from which you access the rooms in two glass elevators, lots of greenery with chirping sparrows and ample comfortable seating everywhere. Our room was great we had a garden, pool and sea view on the 7th floor with a large balcony. There was bit of a gap under the door and noise can float up the atrium from below but it wasn’t a big problem. The room was clean, the bed huge and comfortable and the bathroom had a bath with a shower. The only negative we had was with the food - a bit bland and repetitive A lot of the cooked dishes were the same for every meal and looked unappetising. The best option was the fish or meat freshly cooked in front of you by the chefs which was good. Fortunately there was plenty of fruit and fresh salad. On the whole as another reviewer put it “the positives outweigh the negatives and we really enjoyed our stay in the Blau. On our frequent walks up and down the beautiful beach we had a look at some of the other hotels in the area and it made me appreciate what we had at the Blau, some were very shabby and tired. We definitely made the right choice and would recommend the Blau to anyone looking to stay in Varadero.

I recently stayed at this hotel after a tour round Cuba and I wanted to say that the activity programme of morning stretch on the beach - yoga then tai chi was a fabulous way to start the day whilst on holiday. The tai chi instructor is fantastic I wish he lived closer so I could do it every day. The entertainment team also do lots of activities in the day such as shooting and games on the beach which kept me entertained and salsa Zumba in the sea.
