We booked this resort never having stayed here before. I was a little nervous as my husband is a picky eater, but ultimately the safety of Cuba won out. We were both pleasantly surprised with the quality and abundance of the food! The resort itself is beautiful!! The beach is absolutely stunning! And the drinks were delicious (I took a lot of drink pictures??). The Cuban people are so kind and welcoming! They made our trip that much more special! From the gardener who would hand me a fresh flower every morning, to our regular waiters and waitresses that would rush to greet us with big smiles every mealtime, to the bartenders who were always so accommodating and happy to see us! These people are the heart and soul of this resort. We have travelled to many tropical destinations, but we have never had the level of service and camaraderie the we had at Paradisus Princesa del Mar!

We have travelled to Cuba previously so know what to expect. Booking a 5 Star adult resort we expected a 3 star experience based on other destinations. At the present moment this star rating is very misleading. So many issues at the present time, room a/c problems, TV doesn’t work, hot water limited ,no Sink plug, mini bar not restocked . 24 hr snack bar without options , easier to ask what do you have . Pizza cafe without Pizza majority of the time and if it was a available they ran out quickly. Food at buffet was very poor the majority of the time, no butter, shortage of plates, disorganized and not a pleasant experience at all. Booking the speciality dining was a nightmare, people lined up for 2 hours. When you did get a booking the restaurants were out of many of the choices and no wine. Speaking or wine how does so called 5 Star resort have no wine for 5 says. Ran out of beer and coke in certain bars. Service at Lobby Bar worse I have even encountered, staff visited with each other or played on cell phones .Tipping didn’t seem to help. The pool and beach bar started using the cheapest quality 4oz plastic glasses I ever seen, unacceptable when they had good heavy plastic the first couple of days. We talked with people staying at other resorts and they were not experiencing this issue. They even had real hamburgers not ham burgers , We travel frequently and this is the first time I have ever written a review. Our maid was a gem and the staff at piano bar was excellent . I would recommend not visiting this resort until it gets its issues resolved. Could be a great place .

Fantastic experience and very accommodating for all levels of fitness. Instructions throughout the class were clear and offered both a challenging but relaxing start to the morning. Loved doing yoga every morning at this beautiful resort. Thank you very much.

    Did not meet our expectations

The biggest pro of this hotel is the very hardworking, kind staff who do their best to provide guests with an enjoyable stay, despite the many challenges that prevent it. Particularly the staff in the Royal Service lobby, bar, restaurants and our butler Miguel were all excellent. Another stand out is the beach, which is beautiful - clean, calm, warm, with white powder sand, and perfect for swimming. I've travelled to Cuba on a number of occasions and stayed at various properties, so I have a base of reference and reasonable expectations of what all-inclusive hotels offer. I'll highlight the issues that stood out to us. Disorganization: We stayed in the Royal Service section and identified it as a honeymoon stay during booking. When we checked in we were given a room with two single beds - not ideal. To the hotel's credit, they moved us to a suite with a king bed the next day,, but given our stay was only two nights, it would have been nice to avoid the move and all the time it took to sort it out. In general, staff seemed to be in a state of chaos, both understaffed and trying to deal with a constant stream of complaints and unhappy guests. Poor condition: I expected a bit of wear and tear, but this hotel seems to be suffering from some neglect. The air conditioning didn't work in our first room and the second was very musty smelling. Jacuzzis are empty throughout the property. Some bathrooms without locks or doors. And we noticed the main pool lapping up some sort of sludgy substance one evening (from sunscreen?). The Royal Service section is more modern/better maintained than the general part of the resort though. Shortages: Again, I expected this and we're easy going. But some seemed strange, for example: a lack of towels, glasses, wine and condiments or any sort (e.g. undressed hot dogs served on plain buns without any options for toppings). My only other stay with Paradisus was La Perla in Playa Del Carmen and it was fabulous all around and lived up to its 5-star designation. Unfortunately, Princesa Del Mar does not, and may reflect poorly on the brand given how it is advertised.

Room was adequate, all you really need is a bed and a shower. Shower OK but at some times water could have been a bit hotter. Beach was lovely and beach bar was good fun with nice staff. Buffet was very good with a good selection and choices of freshly cooked items at all times. The themed a la carte restaurants that we tried were of a very poor standard, we walked out of two of them (we only tried three) and were not the only people to do so. Tip: stick to the buffet. The lobby Bar was atrocious; not enough tables, poor staff. The star of the resort for us was the Piano Bar....wonderful drinks and even better staff, what a great team they have there.
